In the dim room, Qin He took a step back.
She looked up at Gu Qichen.
“I’ve finished speaking.”
It was clear that she was not the only one affected by the previous statement.
Gu Qichen’s aura, no longer indifferent, was filled with a strong sense of aggression.
Qin He subconsciously took another step back.
She suddenly felt the urge to escape.
Gu Qichen noticed Qin He’s fluster and stopped his advance.
His voice, as if suppressed by something, carried a husky tone.
“You’ve decided to let me be the father of your child.”
“Didn’t I just say that?” Qin He whispered.
She dared not look at Gu Qichen’s expression, her face slightly turned away.
A low chuckle, like one of satisfaction, echoed in her ears.
Qin He thought for a moment and then explained, “Don’t misunderstand. I just think you have a point. The child does need a nominal father, but that’s just for public announcement. I have no intention of marrying you.”
Gu Qichen was silent for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed, “Why the sudden explanation? What if I’m not misunderstanding?”
“Alright, if you’re not misunderstanding, then hurry back!” Qin He became somewhat annoyed.
In this small space, she felt like prey.
This feeling invaded her pride.
She lifted her chin, avoiding Gu Qichen’s gaze, and reached for the balcony door.
“You want me to leave from here? Isn’t that dangerous?”
Qin He adjusted her position and turned to open the room door.
“Get some rest. And next time, don’t climb onto someone else’s balcony! If I weren’t carrying the baby, I might have broken your bones by now,” Qin He threatened.
Gu Qichen was in a good mood, the best he had been in the past two or three years.
He walked out of the room leisurely, just as Di Shishi opened her door opposite.
Di Shishi, hugging a pillow, couldn’t sleep and wanted to chat with Qin He.
Seeing Qin He open her door in her pajamas, and Gu Qichen emerging from her room.
After a moment of silence.
She let out a “tsk” and turned back into her room.
Qin He’s face darkened.
It was over, she couldn't clear her name!
Gu Qichen glanced at Qin He’s ashen face and returned to his adjacent room in good spirits.
After a night passed.
The next morning, Qin He got out of bed with dark circles under her eyes.
At breakfast, Madam Liu was very concerned.
“He’er, are you having trouble sleeping because you’re in a new place? Your dark circles are terrible. Why don’t you go back to sleep after breakfast?”
Di Shishi chimed in with a teasing smile, “It might not be the new place, it could be the new company.”
“What?” Madam Liu didn’t understand.
Di Shishi looked disgusted, “It’s on the mountainside here, perhaps Qin He saw something she shouldn’t have last night?”
“You child, you watch too many horror movies. I’ve lived here for a long time, don’t scare He’er,” Madam Liu chuckled.
Qin He glared fiercely at Di Shishi.
“Assistant Di, please eat first. We need to head back after this!”
This girl was behaving too much like a friend and not an assistant, with Gu Qichen right there!
Across the dining table.
Liu Xing’an listened to their conversation, his gaze shifting between them. He quickly understood and looked at Gu Qichen with a knowing smile.
“By the way, Master, Brother Yang should have delivered the keys by now, right?” Qin He asked. “We can deal with the grape trellises at the courtyard later. But since Mother-in-law has been living at this mountain villa in the suburbs, it’s too secluded. Why don’t we move her over first?”
Liu Xing’an nodded.
“Certainly. I’ll find time this weekend to arrange the move.”
“I can call a moving company for you,” Qin He offered.
After breakfast, Di Shishi drove, preparing to take Qin He and Gu Qichen back to Qingcheng.
Liu Xing’an also had to go to work at the West City Joint Department, so he joined them in the car.
He deliberately sat in the front passenger seat again.
In the back seat, Qin He scrolled through messages on her phone.
Beside her, Gu Qichen worked on his phone, his gaze occasionally lifting, sharply scanning the streets outside.
It was morning rush hour, and traffic increased as they entered Qingcheng city. It took them two hours to reach the West City Joint Department.
As soon as they entered the Joint Department, Yu Jing hurried over.
“Mr. Gu, I’ve found the information you asked for yesterday. I couldn’t reach you when I got it. Here is the material you requested from yesterday.”
Gu Qichen took the thick stack of documents and flipped through a few pages.
“Extract all the forms that include that project.”
Qin He looked at the thick file. Although she didn’t know which project it was, she knew that extracting a few forms from it would be difficult.
“Is this confidential? If not, can my assistant help pick them out?” Qin He kindly offered.
Di Shishi, who was behind her,’s eyes widened instantly.
“Then, thank you, Miss Di,” Yu Jing smiled friendly at Di Shishi, only to receive an enormous eye-roll.
Qin He followed Liu Xing’an into his office. The master and disciple sat leisurely, drinking tea.
“The renovation of the West District should be completely finished in about three months,” Qin He said with a smile.
Liu Xing’an glanced at her belly. “You should rest too.”
A while ago, Qin He had found an opportunity to reveal to Liu Xing’an that she was Professor harlana.
“I can’t rest yet,” Qin He said mysteriously and excitedly, “I’m planning to establish a medical team.”
Liu Xing’an frowned. “What are you up to now?”
Qin He smiled, “I plan to research male infertility issues.”
Gu Qichen, who was reading documents opposite them, looked up at Qin He.
Qin He faltered, then remembered his impotence.
Was it too cruel to say this in front of him? Qin He reflected silently for a moment.
Qin He’s gaze was peculiar, and Gu Qichen’s expression turned cold.
A moment later, a furious roar from Di Shishi could be heard from the empty small conference room next door.
“I’m helping you pick out the forms, and you’re complaining that I didn’t organize them neatly enough?”
Yu Jing’s voice was gentle and extremely infuriating, “Does Miss Di have the same attitude when working for President Qin? It seems President Qin has a very high tolerance.”
Di Shishi was furious.
Gu Qichen glanced over. Liu Xing’an and Qin He were listening to the gossip, looking like a pair of a couple of mischievous disciples enjoying themselves.
After spending half the day in the West District, Qin He received a call from Ming Yuzhu, asking her to come home for lunch.
She bid farewell to Liu Xing’an and left with Di Shishi.
After Qin He left, Liu Xing’an looked at Gu Qichen in the room.
“Qichen, in good spirits?”
Gu Qichen’s lips curved upwards.
