Chapter 91: thoughtless
It was only when Emira reached the edge of the encirclement that she realized two things at once.
First, if she really ran to Prince Kael now, he would kill her... with just a look probably.
He had just finished fighting, and his usually dark expression was darker, something she had not known was possible...So, only someone foolish enough would dare to approach him and sign their own death certificate.
Second, if she didn’t go to Prince Kael, then that manipulative prince Zen, watching from the other side would certainly find some way to create trouble for her. He’d already fooled her more than once.
Either way, she was going to end up in a soup... But at least Prince Zen was the lesser evil...
And so, for the sake of self-preservation, she froze at the edge, choosing to watch... And she would have done just that, as the future Luna of Stormhold Pack, reached Prince Zen and threw her into his arms, clinging to him like a koala.
But, she was not that lucky...
In the next minute, she felt herself being pushed forward with a sudden force...
Worried about her spontaneous decision to run towards Prince Kael, Ryn had chased after her, hoping to save her from Prince Kael’s anger.
When Emira suddenly halted, the other omega didn’t have enough time to stop. She collided straight into her back, the impact sending Emira stumbling forward with no chance to steady herself.
The world tilted... and in the next moment, Emira landed hard, directly at Prince Kael’s feet.
The prince, who had just sent a long look to the couple on the other side and turned to walk away, stopped in his tracks. Slowly, he looked down, his dark gaze locking onto hers.
And Emira, on the ground, found herself staring up at him, her heart hammering in her throat.
The air shifted.
All around them, the crowd instinctively took a step back. No one dared to move closer. No one dared to breathe too loudly.
To stand in Prince Kael’s way was already dangerous on ordinary days, but now... Now, when he had just fought with ruthless violence and his anger was still burning through him- it was nothing short of asking for death.
Someone raced to fetch His Majesty, the only one who could possibly prevent a disaster...
Many people recognized the person kneeling at the Prince’s feet to the new pack member the prince’s had brought back and felt that it was a pity the girl was going to die before meeting anyone...
Kael’s eyes narrowed at the kneeling Omega. What was she upto now? He’d noticed the glance Zen had sent her way... before she moved, but he’d also seen her self preservation kick in when she stopped. So... why was she at his feet now? Did she really listen to Zen so much that she was going to help him make Ramona jealous?
His eyes narrowed further. If she wanted to die early, then he would help her. Coldly, he asked, "What are you doing?"
Emira blinked rapidly, her mind scattering as a thousand thoughts rushed through her at once. Holy Moon Goddess! What was she supposed to do now?
Just then, an idea struck her and she hurriedly bowed her head," Your Highness... Punch."
Emira wanted nothing more than to crawl into the ground and bury herself alive. Her face burned with embarrassment. What was she even doing? How had her brain turned to complete mush at the worst possible moment?
Even though she had said the word softly, with their werewolf hearing, she was sure that everyone had heard it... she could feel the way everyone’s gaze had turned from pity to curious.
She risked a glance at Prince Kael from beneath her lashes, bracing for his wrath. When she saw that he wasn’t immediately lunging to snap her neck, she seized the tiny sliver of survival and scrambled to her feet. Her mouth, unfortunately, worked faster than her common sense.
"C-can you... please teach me how to punch like that?" she blurted. "The way you did it? You feinted left but then struck from the right-"
As if to demonstrate, her hands came up in clumsy little fists. She actually mimed the move, her knuckles cutting through the air as she made the motions, trying to look serious. Then, caught up in her own act, she threw a light punch toward his waist to emphasise her point.
Her fist met something that felt like a solid wall.
Her eyes flew wide.
Did she just... did she seriously just punch Prince Kael in the stomach?
For a second, she thought her soul might detach from her body altogether. Who in their right mind did something like that? Clearly not her. Clearly her brain had fallen out somewhere back in the dirt.
The Moon Goddess truly must have decided she wanted Emira dead today.
Everyone seemed to freeze in place.
The silence that followed her reckless punch was absolute, as if the entire world had forgotten how to breathe. The wolves, omegas, and others who had been watching, even Zen and Ramona could only look at Emira in stunned disbelief. Nobody dared to whisper. Nobody dared to move.
Prince Kael, however, moved.
He took a single step forward and Emira, who wanted to step back, found unable to move. From somewhere behind her, she heard a small voice from Ryn, trying to say," Your highness... It wasn’t..."
But a single glance from the Alpha silenced Ryn, causing the poor Omega to gasp and fall to her knees. Emira winced...
When he finally spoke, his tone was flat, almost bored, but that made it more terrifying.
"Follow me."
That was all he said before he walked away, leaving her behind...Emira’s heart thudded painfully. She ducked her head quickly, murmured a rushed, "Yes, Your Highness," and stepped after him. Each step she took behind him felt like she was going to the gallows... She vowed, if she got out alive... she would... definitely never step into his path again.
