The newcomers were none other than Zou Wei and his two companions.
They had rushed over as soon as they heard that Chen Fan's surgery was over, eager to witness the expert doctor make a fool of himself.
The entire procedure, from start to finish, had taken a mere ten minutes. They simply couldn't believe that such a complex surgery could be completed in such a short time. In their minds, Chen Fan had probably not even picked up a scalpel before the patient had breathed his last.
"What? The surgery failed? If your hospital doesn't have the capability to perform this surgery, why did you send my father into the operating room?!" the young man's face contorted with rage upon hearing Zou Wei's words.
He had just received a call from his mother and uncle informing him that his father had been in a car accident, and he had rushed back from out of town.
To his dismay, he hadn't even had a chance to see his father one last time.
The young man's agitated state startled Zou Wei and the others, causing them to instinctively step back. They feared he might resort to violence, as the medical profession was now considered a high-risk one.
Zou Wei quickly pointed at Chen Fan. "It was him, this Doctor Chen. We were all going to send your father to the First Hospital for treatment, but he stopped us when we were transferring him."
The young man's fierce gaze fixed on Chen Fan as he demanded, "Is what they're saying true?"
Chen Fan nodded, offering no excuses. "Indeed, it was me."
"Damn it, I'll kill you today! You'll pay for my father's life!" With that, the young man swung his fist, aiming for Chen Fan's face.
Seeing the young man about to strike, Zou Wei's face broke into a smirk, thinking that Chen Fan had brought this upon himself.
However, Chen Fan calmly watched the oncoming fist and asked, "Who told you your father is dead?"
The young man froze, his fist stopping mere centimeters from Chen Fan's face. He looked at Chen Fan and asked, "Are you saying my father is still alive?"
Zou Wei frowned. "Doctor Chen, is it amusing to you to deceive a patient's family like this? Your surgery only took ten minutes. Even with preparation time, it couldn't have been more than twenty minutes. If the patient were fine, could you have finished so early? Or are you claiming you completed a surgery in just ten minutes that none of us three chief physicians were confident about?"
The young man glared at Chen Fan again, his anger reignited.
"A failed surgery isn't a big deal, but doctors must have a conscience. You insisted on keeping this patient here, and now that something has happened, you want to shirk responsibility and deceive the patient's family. Doctor Chen, a doctor's heart should be benevolent!" Zou Wei lectured Chen Fan with an air of seniority.
The young man clenched his fists, clearly ready to continue his assault.
Meanwhile, a crowd of onlookers had gathered, pointing and murmuring about Chen Fan.
"What's going on here?" a commanding voice suddenly boomed.
The crowd parted, revealing a middle-aged man entering the scene.
"Director Zhang!" Zou Wei hurried forward upon seeing the newcomer.
The man was none other than Zhang Chongshan, the director of Longgang Hospital.
Zou Wei pointed at Chen Fan. "Director Zhang, this expert Doctor Chen performed a surgery today. It was a highly complex case involving severe degloving injuries, comminuted fractures of both legs, and internal organ damage."
"As you know, our hospital's current conditions are not equipped for such a surgery, so we arranged for the patient to be transferred. However, this expert, Doctor Chen, stopped us and forcibly transferred the patient under his name. He then proceeded to perform the surgery himself, and it failed. He emerged from the operating room in just ten minutes and then lied to the patient's family, claiming the surgery was a success and the patient was alive. Isn't that blatant falsehood? Ten minutes! Even an expert from the capital would have a ninety percent failure rate for such a surgery! And he did it in ten minutes. Do you think that's possible?!"
Zhang Chongshan's brow furrowed as he listened to Zou Wei's lengthy explanation.
He knew it was Chen Fan's first day practicing, and while he anticipated some dissent, he had believed Chen Fan's medical skills would silence any doubters.
However, Zhang Chongshan had never imagined that Chen Fan would stir up such a significant problem today.
"Are you the director here?" the young man asked Zhang Chongshan with a menacing glare.
"Yes," Zhang Chongshan replied, nodding.
The young man interrogated, "If your hospital couldn't perform this surgery, why didn't you let my father be transferred? You are all murderers!"
"This matter is not over! I will sue you!"
"Honey! My dear husband! Please don't go!" The woman collapsed onto the ground, sobbing uncontrollably.
The atmosphere in the hall became intensely oppressive.
"Doctor Chen, do you have anything to say? If it weren't for you, the patient might have had a chance of survival," Wu Chengbin questioned Chen Fan.
"I have nothing to say. Also, you guys didn't even dare to enter the operating room, and yet you talk to me about benevolent hearts? Are you trying to be funny?" Chen Fan asked, looking at the three men with disdain.
"Expert Chen, if it weren't for you, the patient might have been saved. Arguing with us now is less important than figuring out how to appease the patient's family."
"The patient has been cured, so they don't need my appeasement."
"Cured? Hahaha!" Zou Wei couldn't help but burst into laughter.
He then added, "Expert Chen, I think you're not a surgical expert, but a bragging expert. If you could cure the patient from earlier in ten minutes, I, Zou Wei, will immediately kneel down and become your disciple!"
"Screech—!"
Just then, the door to the operating room, which had been closed, was pushed open, and a gurney was wheeled out.
The sudden appearance of the gurney brought a brief silence to the scene, as everyone's attention turned to the operating room entrance.
The patient on the gurney was not covered with a white sheet. Instead, various medical instruments were attached to him, and a portable cardiac monitor was placed beside him.
The monitor's screen displayed the patient's heart rate and blood pressure.
Judging by the stable readings, the patient was indeed alive. In fact, his heart rate and blood pressure were even stronger than when he was first admitted to the hospital, and his heart rate was remarkably steady.
At that moment, all the medical staff present were struck with astonishment.
The ordinary onlookers might not have understood, but these medical professionals knew very well that if the surgery had failed, the patient would not exhibit such stable vital signs!
"This, how is this possible!" Zou Wei was stunned, and Lin Lei was equally bewildered.
Wu Chengbin quickly approached the gurney and felt the patient's legs. He looked at Xia Yiting in surprise and asked, "Doctor Xia, the patient's legs weren't amputated?"
Upon hearing Wu Chengbin's question, everyone's gaze shifted back to Xia Yiting.
"Director Wu, Doctor Chen, Expert Chen has already reconnected the patient's bones, and the degloved skin has regained its vitality and is bonding with the body," Xia Yiting quickly corrected her address and replied to Wu Chengbin.
"What?!" Immediately, Wu Chengbin and the others were dumbfounded, looking at Chen Fan with disbelief.
