Chapter 215 A Test of Conscience

"This is the place."

The little boy's voice roused Ouyang Feng.

Amidst Ouyang Feng's continuous struggles, the three had arrived at their destination.

Da Xiong pulled the little boy behind him, then cautiously pushed open the door to the data center.

This was a room made of bulletproof glass, and some traces of shutters could be seen overhead.

It was likely designed so that the shutters would automatically descend in case of danger!

Upon entering, they found it in disarray.

Scattered documents littered the floor, from chairs to the water cooler and tables.

It seemed that during the incident, someone had deliberately tried to destroy some things.

After looking around, Da Xiong picked up some documents from the floor.

They were all daily records, such as how much water a certain experimental subject had consumed that day.

None of them were the research summaries he was looking for.

There was a computer in front, its host unit occupying almost an entire wall, yet the display screen was only as large as a face.

It was impractical to remove the hard drive of such a supercomputer to take back.

Da Xiong walked over and tried to boot up the computer.

Unfortunately, after pressing the power button, the behemoth showed no reaction.

"So much time has passed, it's likely some internal components have been damaged and it can't operate," Ouyang Feng stated at the opportune moment.

Da Xiong nodded, "I believe the core data developed should be stored in this computer. We must find a way to retrieve that data from it."

Otherwise, their trip would have been in vain!

Ouyang Feng crouched down to examine it, while Da Xiong checked the surroundings.

Casually, Da Xiong noticed the little boy standing by, looking pitiful, so frail that a slight gust of wind might blow him over.

Furthermore, with his hands tied, he appeared even more pathetic.

Da Xiong immediately walked over and asked, "Do you know where they usually kept their data?"

The little boy raised his head blankly to look at Da Xiong, then shook his head.

How could he possibly know?

Just as Da Xiong sighed and prepared to try harder.

The little boy spoke with a pitiful tone, "Uncle, can you untie me?"

"My hands hurt so much."

The little boy's eyes sparkled, covered with something like a crystal-clear glass, his eyelashes fluttering a few times.

He looked utterly pathetic!

Da Xiong's heart softened.

Considering the little boy had helped them find the data center, he might not be as dangerous as he imagined.

So, he took out his Nepalese knife and untied the ropes for the little boy.

After his hands were freed, the little boy didn't make any other moves, but instead huddled in a corner.

His big eyes watched Da Xiong and the other man's actions.

Da Xiong, assuming the little boy was merely scared, didn't pay him much mind.

He lowered his head and continued searching the desks for any useful documents.

Ouyang Feng glanced at the little boy, but said nothing.

Although he didn't quite agree, Da Xiong's suspicions about the boy hadn't been dispelled.

Therefore, if Ouyang Feng spoke now, it might lead to a misunderstanding from Da Xiong.

Ouyang Feng felt that since he hadn't made up his mind, it was better not to clash directly with Da Xiong for the time being.

It was just a child, what trouble could he cause?

He would just keep a close eye on him!

As both of them were searching for the core data, neither noticed that the little boy, who had been quietly staying in the corner moments ago, had somehow shifted his position!

Da Xiong found something resembling a thesis in a folder.

He immediately called out to Ouyang Feng, who was tinkering with the supercomputer, to come and look.

"This seems to be their first-stage research conclusion. Can you check if it's it?"

Ouyang Feng immediately put down what he was doing and walked over.

However.

He had only taken two steps.

*Clack—*

All the lights in the data center suddenly went out, plunging it into darkness!

And looking out through the glass of the data center, the corridor lights were also gone.

It appeared the entire laboratory had lost power!

"What's going on?" Ouyang Feng's breathing became heavier in the darkness.

He seemed a bit flustered.

Da Xiong was not much better off.

Because he wasn't sure if the power outage was Ouyang Feng's doing or caused by other dangers lurking within the laboratory.

So Da Xiong bore double the pressure!

Da Xiong fumbled and turned on the headlamp on his protective gear.

He could only vaguely see about a meter in front of him.

Ouyang Feng, on his side, also turned on his headlamp.

The two men exchanged a glance, confirmed that neither of them was acting unusually, and then simultaneously looked towards the spot where the little boy had been standing.

However.

The little boy had been there moments ago, but now it was completely empty!

"Not good!" Da Xiong only managed to exclaim, followed by the sound of something cutting through the air.

Da Xiong rolled on the ground, narrowly dodging the attack!

He saw the thin little boy, now on his knees, crawling towards the desk on all fours.

Under the beam of the headlamp, the little boy's eyes reflected a sinister green glow.

Da Xiong's heart suddenly jolted.

Before he could react, the little boy, with a very peculiar posture, rapidly crawled towards Da Xiong!

As Da Xiong dodged, he clearly saw that the little boy's fingernails had somehow grown longer.

Dark and greasy…

"Is this even human…" Ouyang Feng was also engulfed in fear.

He hadn't expected that the scrawny little boy would have such a terrifying side!

The little boy made a hissing sound from his mouth, baring his teeth as if smiling.

Then, he leaped up and pounced onto Da Xiong's back.

Opening his claws, he lunged for the protective gear on Da Xiong's head!

Ouyang Feng was standing right behind Da Xiong.

The moment the little boy raised his claw, Ouyang Feng, without hesitation, raised his leg and delivered a high kick, sending the little boy flying!

It had to be said, the little boy's physique was far too frail.

With such a kick from Ouyang Feng, he flew like a kite towards the filing cabinet behind him.

Then crashed hard against it!

"This isn't human at all," Da Xiong stated grimly.

He didn't even have time to discuss countermeasures with Ouyang Feng. Seizing the moment the little boy struggled in the indentation of the filing cabinet.

He strode forward with a few steps.

Directing his punch at the chair pinning the little boy, he unleashed a powerful blow!

"Ah!"

A chilling scream erupted from the little boy's mouth.

Immediately after, a large gush of blood sprayed from his mouth!

Having learned from the previous incident, Da Xiong dared not relax his vigilance.

He continued to punch the little boy, one after another.

Even when the little boy had completely stopped breathing and was beaten into a bloody mess, Da Xiong did not dare to stop.
