Chapter 169: Chapter 169: Chickened Out
"What?" Eva exploded in anger, unable to believe that Lucas Payten was such a person.
"You want to break up with me? Who was the one chasing me in the first place?"
Eva’s accusation did not elicit any guilt from Lucas Payten. Instead, it made him even angrier, "I must have been blind back then, thinking being with you would lead to a good outcome. Who knew you were so stupid, unable to even cozy up to your uncle, costing me my job!"
Now that he had lost his job, Lucas Payten didn’t even have the patience to maintain a facade anymore. He pushed Eva heavily, "You jinx!"
"Lucas Payten, you bastard! Scum!" Was Eva someone who easily compromised?
She immediately chased after Lucas Payten and started hitting him, and Lucas Payten, not someone to go easy, retaliated without mercy.
In no time, the two of them were entangled in a fight, stunning everyone at the company, with no one daring to step in to break them up.
Who knew what might happen if they intervened and ended up being blamed?
Lucas Payten and Eva were certainly capable of pulling something like that.
Fortunately, everyone was rather enthusiastic and directly called the police.
By the time the police rushed over, Edward Palmer, who had heard the commotion, had already come out and pulled the two apart.
However, the two of them still wouldn’t let it go, and Edward Palmer, looking grim, had the police take them away to sort things out.
"Sophie Wilson, I won’t let you get away with this!" Eva shouted angrily at Sophie Wilson as she was taken away by the police.
Sophie Wilson smiled slightly, politely asking the officer, "Officer, does this count as a personal threat? If anything happens to me, she should be the prime suspect. Can she be arrested?"
Eva wasn’t really bold, just a bit arrogant, and when things got real, she was not that brave.
Upon hearing Sophie Wilson’s words, she immediately shrank like a quail.
Sophie Wilson didn’t make it difficult for her and let the police take Eva and Lucas Payten away, then turned to Edward Palmer and said, "I’ll leave future matters in your hands, President Palmer."
"Don’t worry, President Wilson." Edward Palmer, as the branch manager, was naturally aware of company changes and nodded repeatedly.
He never expected Sophie Wilson would transfer him to the head office to manage the entire company.
After all, Eva was still related to him, so why would she... It seems his new boss is truly impartial and professional.
Having such a boss motivated Edward Palmer to work hard and strive for achievements.
Sophie Wilson had come, besides collecting her things, to catch up with Lucy Wells.
The two of them went to a café near the company.
"Lucy, how would you feel about working at the head office?" Sophie Wilson asked, "As President Palmer’s assistant."
"Me? Can I handle it?" Lucy Wells asked, lacking confidence.
"Why not?" Sophie Wilson asked with a smile, "You’re so meticulous and a quick learner. Being just a clerk is a waste of your talents."
"And you know, I’m pretty lazy. I won’t be managing the company’s affairs much, so I’ll count on you to keep an eye on things."
Facing Sophie Wilson’s sincere and eager gaze, Lucy Wells nodded solemnly, "I will do my best."
"Thank you, Lucy. You’re a huge help to me." Sophie Wilson smiled happily.
"You..." Lucy Wells didn’t say much more, but in her heart, she cherished all the goodness about Sophie Wilson.
