Chapter 188: Chapter 188 It Really Doesn’t Matter
"Hmm, what’s up?" Clarissa asked curiously.
On the phone, Sophie Wilson said she had some matters she wanted to discuss with her in person, but Clarissa really couldn’t figure out what Sophie needed her for.
If it was to ask for help... she felt it was unlikely.
Just from seeing Sophie’s boyfriend last time, Clarissa could tell that if anything came up, Sophie’s boyfriend could handle it.
"Then I’ll get straight to the point," Sophie said with a smile, "I was adopted by my parents, and recently, I discovered some things."
"The person who gave me to my adoptive father at that time left me a large sum of money. I recently found out that the money belonged to me, so I took it back."
"And my adoptive father’s daughter always felt that I stole their family’s property and wanted to take revenge on me."
As Clarissa listened, she nodded along, puzzled as to why Sophie was telling her this but still well-mannered enough to let her continue.
"I discovered that my adoptive father’s daughter was being helped by someone. That person, who helped her, was born the same year as me and looks somewhat like me, both having... almond-shaped eyes."
Sophie deliberately paused when she said the last few words, leaving Clarissa momentarily confused, looking at Sophie in bewilderment.
However, Sophie stopped talking at that point.
Clarissa was stunned for a moment, slowly digesting Sophie’s implications, then her eyes widened in surprise, her face turning a bit pale.
"Sophie, you mean..." Clarissa found Sophie’s suggestion absurd, "I, I... no, back then I really only had one daughter, you, I..."
"I recently just investigated some things and was curious," Sophie seemed unfazed by Clarissa’s shock.
If it had been her, with someone suddenly appearing and claiming her child had been switched, her reaction might have been less composed than Clarissa’s.
"Grace Wilson, my adoptive father’s daughter, originally had nothing to do with the entertainment industry. But since her contact with Ophelia Wilson, rumors about my being an illegitimate child began spreading through my adoptive father’s company."
"Later, when I reclaimed what was mine, Grace Wilson entered the entertainment industry. Despite having no background, she was recommended to join a film crew, set to play a supporting female role. That recommender was Ophelia Wilson."
"I don’t quite understand why Ophelia Wilson would insist on helping Grace target me. Of course, aside from the possibility I suspect, perhaps she simply likes Grace or has been misled by her to act against me."
"I don’t like wasting time on these minor issues," Sophie said with a cheerful smile towards Clarissa, "The reason I’m here to see Aunt Taylor is, if you’re agreeable, to go take a paternity test with me."
Sophie straightforwardly expressed her thoughts, unembellished and blunt.
Clarissa felt a tightness in her chest and instinctively asked, "Sophie, it seems you don’t hold much expectation for your biological parents."
Coming from a scholarly family and being a sensitive person herself, Clarissa instinctively picked up on the indifferent attitude hidden beneath Sophie’s straightforward words.
Sophie smiled but didn’t respond to Clarissa’s words. Yet this calm smile confirmed Clarissa’s suspicion.
She truly didn’t care.
