Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Investigating The Assassin
While Madam Xu wallowed in her fear, Yue Ning watched the TV with an expressionless expression.
Huo Yan’s lips curled into a gleeful smile as she basked in Yue Chen’s humiliation.
"I just knew you were different from them. Turns out... you are not a member of their family."
Yue Ning calmly switched off the TV. She knew these were the actions of her family.
’Were they able to warm your heart?’ The system asked, gaining her attention.
"They did." Yue Ning replied with a smile. "But... I really want to find the author of this novel. Did she hate me so much in this novel. What a horrible ending!" she complained.
The system chuckled at her anger, but Yue Ning rolled her eyes mentally.
"Sister-in-law, Sister-in-law." Huo Yan’s frantic cries for her interrupted the conversation she had with the system.
"Do you need anything?" Yue Ning asked.
Huo Yan pouted. "I have been trying to get your attention, but you ignored me." She grumbled while staring at Yue Ning with her big eyes.
"Sorry, I was thinking about something. What were you saying?" Yue Ning apologized.
Huo Yan folded her arms, and said. "Fine, I’ll forgive you on the account that you are sincere."
"Anyways, I am quite happy."
Yue Ning noticed the smile on the younger girl’s face, and her brows raised.
"What is making you happy?" Yue Ning asked, and leaned back on the chair.
"Take a look at Yue Chen’s face when the reporters said you were the daughter of the Lus. It felt like she had eaten something bad, and he face was all scrunched up."
Anytime Huo Yan recalled, she’d burst into laughter.
"Are you that glad about their downfall?" Yue Ning probed, her gaze fixated on the younger girl.
Huo Yan hurriedly nodded her head. "If it wasn’t because of the way you were mistreated in that family, it is also because Yue Chen thought she could use my brother." She paused as her mind flashed back to how henpecked her brother was for Yue Chen.
"You have no idea how satisfied I was when she convinced my brother to marry you. At least... that was the only good thing she was able to do in her entire life."
Yue Ning smiled softly. "At the end of the day, the truth would always be revealed. This is something you should know."
"I understand, Sister-in-law." Huo Yan nodded seriously.
"Anyways, let’s forget about all these. I am done with the novels you gave me, can I have more?" Yue Ning requested cutely.
Huo Yan was stunned. "Wow... your speed in reading novels should be studied." she mumbled.
Meanwhile, at the Huo’s Corps, Huo Feng listened to Ah Si’s reports, and his eyes turned cloudy.
Ah Si swallowed, and silently lit a few candles for the offenders. A storm was brewing, and it would hit every one involved.
"Director Zhou is quite bold," Huo Feng commented calmly, but Ah Si was well aware that behind that calm, was a storm brewing.
"Have you completed your investigation?" Huo Feng asked, changing the topic.
Ah Si shook his head, and hung his head low in shame.
"Boss, you are free to punish this incompetent subordinate of yours. I was unable to find anything." Ah Si apologized with his head bowed.
Huo Feng shook his head. "I don’t blame you, if you were able to find a clue, then that means the mastermind is not a careful person. Given my understanding of him, he isn’t a careless person."
"What about our prisoner? Did he let anything slip?" Huo Feng inquired once more.
Ah Si shook his head. Huo Feng twirled the pen in between his fingers as his eyes narrowed with different thoughts flashing through his mind.
Ah Si looked at his unreadable expression, and he wondered what his boss was up to.
After a few moments of silence, Huo Feng spoke up. "How about I pay a visit to him?" There was a smile on his lips, but it didn’t reach his eyes.
Ah Si’s heart subconsciously skipped a bit. ’It is over. Boss wants to interrogate him personally. It is over for him.’
He thought to himself, panic and fear evident on his face. Obviously, these emotions were not for him, but for the assassin who was about to fall into Huo Feng’s wrath.
"What are you thinking about? Let’s go!" Huo Feng’s statement snapped him out of his thoughts, and he smiled foolishly before running after him.
Huo Feng and Ah Si entered the car with Ah Si as the driver as they drove to a suburb area. The Huo family’s underground prison was located here.
The road was deserted as they drove in. Ah Si didn’t stop until they stopped in front of an inconspicuous building having two floors.
When they stepped out of the car, the two men guarding the building bowed to Huo Feng as they welcomed him in.
Huo Feng slightly tipped his head, showing that he acknowledged their greeting.
The gate of the building was opened, and both Huo Feng and Ah Si walked in.
"Boss." There was a collective echo of greeting once Huo Feng walked in.
He waved his hand, and the one who seemed to be the leader of the men walked to him, a look of reverence appearing in his eyes.
"Boss, what brings you here?" Han Jixuan, the leader of the men asked with a smile.
Huo Feng laughed a bit, but there was no hint of excitement in his eyes.
"I want to see him," he simply stated.
Han Jixuan’s face lit with realization. "Ah... him. Of course. Please, follow me, Boss."
As they walked the dim corridor, Han Jixuan spoke quickly, almost nervously. "The assassin is tough. We’ve used every method, but he hasn’t cracked. Not even a word." He sighed. "But with you here, he won’t last long."
Huo Feng stopped abruptly. His shadow loomed over the man.
"You know..." His lips curved into a dangerous smile. "...for a man, you talk too much."
Han Jixuan’s face stiffened, but he forced a laugh.
"Lead the way," Huo Feng ordered coolly.
Finally, they reached the cell. The stench of blood and rust filled the air. The man inside lay on the floor, face swollen, body battered—but his spirit, unbroken.
Huo Feng stepped in, and for a fleeting moment, there was a trace of respect in his eyes. Few men could endure this much.
The assassin lifted his head with great effort. When he saw Huo Feng, he let out a bloodied sneer.
"My boss... he won’t spare you."
Huo Feng chuckled mirthlessly. His eyes glinted with cruelty.
"I’m waiting for him to try."
