Chapter 89: Chapter 89: Fixed Engagement
When Ah Si returned to the office, he informed Huo Feng about what Yue Chen had said.
Huo Feng twirled his pen, and a smirk appeared on his lips.
"Not bad. She was able to trap him " He chuckled without any hint of humour. "Let her stay there for two days before you return her to Kang Beichen. This would be her punishment for trying to lay her filthy finger on Yue Ning."
It was a clear order, and Ah Si was more than willing to fulfill it.

After the Yue family was exposed for their crimes, the police immediately raided their mansion, and they arrested the couple on the basis of child trafficking.
Their company was bankrupt, and it was revealed that they owed the banks loans.
Their mansions and properties were seized by the bank. In short, the Yue family went from being a prestigious family to nothing overnight.
Lu Jiang listened to his sons report to him, and he had a satisfied expression on his face. This could be counted as collecting debt.
"But Dad, we didn’t see Yue Chen in the mansion. Their servants also claimed they didn’t see her." Lu Ran stated, his brows furrowing in confusion.
Yue Chen was like a ticking time bomb. She could lose her mind now that her family had been destroyed. There was no telling what she could do.
"Continue investigating, I want her whereabouts soon." Lu Jiang instructed, as a cloudy look appeared in his eyes. "I will never let her hurt Xiao Ning just as she always did in the past."
To Lu Jiang, Yue Chen wasn’t just another threat—she was the embodiment of all the suffering Xiao Ning had endured. That alone was reason enough never to let her roam free again.
"Consider it done, Dad." Lu Quan nodded, and sighed. "I just hope it won’t be long before Sister accepts us as her family."
"If only... if only she wasn’t married to Huo Feng," Lu Ran exhaled. His heart felt stifled with the knowledge that his sister had already gotten married before they could even pamper her.
"If we look at things positively, we wouldn’t have found her if she wasn’t married to Huo Feng." Lu Jiang sighed softly. "As much as I don’t like that she is married to Huo Feng, this marriage did an excellent job in discovering her immediately."
Lu Quan and Lu Ran fell silent. This was because they knew their father was right.
After a few seconds of silence, Lu Quan asked, this time around, changing the topic. "Dad, how do you plan to deal with Aunty? She was the mastermind behind Xiao Ning’s disappearance. We can’t let her go just like that."
Lu Jiang’s eyes turned cold. "Who said I was planning on letting her go? She would also have to admit to her crimes." His eyes turned colder just as he thought that his sister was the one behind his unhappiness.
Lu Jiang clenched his fists tightly. "We can’t act rashly. There is no evidence tying her to the crime, so we can’t directly accuse her."
"What do we do?" Lu Ran asked.
Lu Jiang’s lips slowly curled up, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes. He answered his youngest son. "We wait for her to make a mistake."
While Madam Xu was in a state of relief, the men of the Lu plotted her downfall, and how to expose her.
Meanwhile, Lu Ting was in her room, re-reading the text message that was sent by her Xiao Ning.
The message read: "Hi. How are you doing?" It was a simple text message, but it was enough to bring tears to Lu Ting’s eyes.
She held the phone to her chest, tears escaping from her eyes. "It won’t be long before Xiao Ning accepts us." She continually muttered to herself.
The day passed by, and soon evening came.
At the Huo’s ancestral mansion, Yue Ning’s eyes were focused on the entrance. She was waiting for Huo Feng to return.
She had spent the entire day planning on how to spend quality time with him, and she finally figured it out. But the only thing missing was her male lead.
Yes! He was the second male lead in the novel, the female lead’s love interest. But to Yue Ning, he was her male lead.
Huo Yan noticed Yue Ning’s gaze constantly went to the entrance, and her lips curled up slowly. There was a hint of teasing in er eye as she started.
"Sister-in-law only cares about my brother. It seems you are already falling for him."
Huo Yan’s teasing voice brought Yue Ning back to reality. It was then she realized that there was a girl called Huo Yan sitting beside her.
Yue Ning glared at her, but the red hue on both cheeks gave her away. Huo Yan wasn’t frightened by her glare, instead, she stuck out her tongue cheekily.
Yue Ning rolled her eyes at her playfulness. All of a sudden, the sound of a phone ringing cut through the harmonious atmosphere between both ladies.
Yue Ning frowned imperceptibly. She picked up the phone, and the caller ID displayed: it was Yun Li. She picked up the call instantly.
"Yue Ning! You are a horrible friend!" These were Yun Li’s first statements as the call disconnected.
Yue Ning’s lips twitched at the accusation. "You can’t accuse me that way." She said calmly.
"Of course I can, and I’ll do more than that." Yun Li’s heavy breathing could be heard from the other end of the phone. "This isn’t fair. I found out your real identity from the media. What sort of friend are you?" She berated her.
Yue Ning played with her hair. So this was the reason she called.
"I only just found out yesterday. How could I have called you when a lot is going on?" Yue Ning responded calmly.
Yun Li scoffed, unconvinced by her explanation.
"I will forgive you on account of how you’ve been a good friend." She reluctantly said, and Yue Ning burst into laughter.
"Okay, so tell me what you’ve been up to. I haven’t heard from you in a while." Yue Ning asked, effectively changing the topic.
As expected, Yun Li’s loud explanation followed.
"I ran away from home." She casually said.
Yue Ning’s eyes widened in surprise. "Why?" She demanded loudly.
Yun Li sneered. "My parents fixed my engagement with an unfamiliar man. I felt disgruntled, so I ran away."
Yue Ning’s brows twitched. This was obviously something that can be carried out by her.
"Who is this man?" She probed, feeling interested in this news.
"Some man named He... He... Darn it! What was his name again? Ah Yes! He Yuchen. My parents fixed my engagement with him."
