Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Director Zhou Is Fired.

Huo Feng scoffed. "I can’t be bothered to exchange words with you."

"As of now, you are not a member of this company. You can go to the HR to pick up your termination later. Huo Corps do not tolerate betrayal." He announced.

Director Zhou’s face turned pale. He finally knew how to be afraid.

He plopped to his knees instantly. "President, please forgive me. It was just a moment of greed. I promise it won’t happen again." He pleaded.

"The meeting has been adjourned," ignoring Director Zhou’s pleas, Huo Feng announced.

Without waiting for their response, he gestured to Yue Ning to leave with him.

Yue Ning immediately rose to her feet, and walked out with Huo Feng. She deliberately flicked her hair when she passed by Director Zhou.

Hee deep gaze was fixated on him, before walking away. Director Zhou’s knees weakened, and he collapsed to his chair, sweat trickling from his forehead to his chin.

The remaining directors didn’t say anything as they packed their belongings before walking out of the conference room leaving him behind.

Yue Ning caught up with Huo Feng and she noticed that his back seemed tense. She pursed her lips, wanting to say something but she decided against it.

"What do you want to say?" Huo Feng asked while still walking.

Yue Ning shook her head, then said. "Let’s talk in your office. The walls have ears."

Huo Feng didn’t respond, but he silently acknowledged her words.

When they arrived at his office, Yue Ning gestured for him to sit on the sofa.

She breathed out before she started. "Others might not have noticed, but I did. You might have masked it properly, but I was able to see the trace of disappointment in your eyes."

"What’s wrong?" Yue Ning asked, a flicker of concern flashing in her eyes.

A strange glint flashed through Huo Feng’s eyes. He thought he had masked it properly... but Yue Ning had seen right through it.

"You are quite sensitive." He murmured, and she smiled proudly.

"But you looked disappointed during the meeting. Are you okay?" Yue Ning asked again, this time more seriously.

"Anyone would be disappointed if they were in my shoes." Huo Feng started with a sigh.

Yue Ning leaned closer to him as if fearful that she wouldn’t hear what he wanted to say.

"Director Zhou has been an integral part of our company. He followed my grandfather, my dad, and me." He paused, shedding every secret and his eyes showing his clear disappointment.

Yue Ning’s lips pressed into a thin line. She seemed to understand why Huo Feng would have been hurt because of his actions.

"Human nature is quite selfish. He was unable to resist temptation. Honestly, if the others had done this, then I wouldn’t have been too hurt. But Director Zhou is someone who my grandfather and father trusted."

"And due to this trust, he thought he could betray the company." Huo Feng scoffed, his tone laced with undisguised hurt and disappointment.

Yue Ning held his hands while assurance appeared in her eyes. "Everything happens for a reason. As you have said, human nature is selfish, so you shouldn’t place all your trust or hope in them. They could betray you any time."

Huo Feng stared into her eyes, and he blurted out. "What about you? Will you betray me as well?"

Yue Ning was taken aback by his question, but she wasn’t offended.

Instead, she answered her question with a question of her own. "Do you think I can betray you?"

Huo Feng subconsciously shook his head negatively.

"There you go, there’s your answer." Yue Ning softly said.

"But I have a question though." He said, his gaze still fixated on her face. Yue Ning’s brows furrowed while wondering what he wanted to ask her.

"Why did you hide your abilities when you were in the Yue family? You are outstanding, but I still don’t understand why you decided to hide it?" Huo Feng asked.

This question has always been on the tip of his tongue and this was the time he had the chance to question her.

Yue Ning’s lips curved slowly. "I guess they weren’t worthy of seeing the real me." She replied vaguely.

She didn’t have the right answer to his question. She couldn’t just tell him that the world they lived in was a novel written by an author. She also couldn’t let him know that she wasn’t the original Yue Ning in the novel.

She had no doubt that he would think she was crazy if she told him something like that.

Huo Feng’s stare became more intense. He didn’t know why he had the feeling that she was hiding something from him.

And the funny thing was that he didn’t doubt that she’d hurt him. He wanted her to be open to him—to be able to wander in her world, this was his real wish.

Yue Ning could sense his gaze, and the heat in the atmosphere slowly rose. The air was filled with pink bubbles.

Huo Feng moved closer to Yue Ning, and leaned in. Yue Ning closed her eyes in anticipation while she swallowed softly.

Huo Feng was about to take in her lower lips when there was a knock on the door which pulled the couple back to reality.

"Darn it!" He cursed under his breath, silently cursing the person at the door.

Yue Ning immediately ran her fingers through her hair. ’What are you doing? You should be professional in an office space.’ She scolded herself, but the red colour which was rapidly spreading to her neck betrayed her embarrassment.

The person at the door walked in. Turned out to be one of the directors who needed Huo Feng’s signature.

____________

"He fired you?" The cloaked figure looked at Director Zhou who was fidgeting with his head lowered.

He laughed loudly while Director Zhou gritted his teeth in fear.

All of a sudden, the cloaked figure paused. "Huo Feng is smart—too smart." He pursed his lips, and stared at Director Zhou with a smile which spelt danger.

"Since you are of no use to me, why don’t I kill you?" He asked with a twisted smile. "This will protect my interest, don’t you think it’s the fair thing to do?"

Director Zhou snapped his head up instantly, his eyes betraying the fear within. He could see the serious expression on the figure’s face, and he had no doubt that he could kill him.

His heartbeat pulsated, his fingers twisted while his lips parted as if to speak. But before he could utter a word... the gunshot had already been fired.
