Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Confrontation At The Bookstore
Huo Feng choked on nothing as he stared at He Yuchen with wide eyes.
"What do you mean you’re getting married? When did this happen?" Huo Feng expressed his doubts.
"My parents finalized it a few days ago. In just a few days, I’ll be married." He Yuchen replied, letting out a deep breath.
Huo Feng was oblivious to his friend’s distress as he wished him happily. "Congratulations, Man. I am happy for you."
He Yuchen glared at him. "You sound a little too happy about my misfortune," he scoffed..
Huo Feng coughed softly. "Of course not. Marriage is a wonderful experience, and I am genuinely happy for you. You are not too young to get married."
Eyeing him, he added. "Actually, you’re not getting any younger. No wonder Auntie and Uncle are restless."
He Yuchen exhaled. "It’s not marriage I fear—it’s who I’m marrying. She’s... feisty." He confessed, pinching the space between his brows.
Huo Feng stifled a laugh. He didn’t expect that He Yuchen would be worried about this little matter.
"She shouldn’t be that bad, should she?" Huo Feng asked tentatively.
"You have not met Yun Li," He Yuchen snorted.
"Yun Li," Huo Feng repeated with his brows furrowed. Then, it suddenly clicked. Yun Li was his wife’s best friend, and just as He Yuchen said, she had a feisty personality.
He looked at his best friend, and suddenly felt pity for him.
Sensing the pitiful look on him, He Yuchen raised his shoulders, "what?" He asked.
"Sorry in advance, Bro." Huo Feng muttered, already burying himself in documents, ignoring He Yuchen’s deepening frown.
He Yuchen’s frown deepened, fixing his gaze on his friend who didn’t bother to listen to him again. He sighed, there was no way he could cancel the wedding—not when he admired her.

After lunch with Yun Li, Yue Ning asked the driver to drive to the local bookstore. She needed to stack up some novels.
"I will be back soon, okay?" She informed the driver who nodded respectfully.
When she got into the bookstore, she engaged in a conversation with the system.
"You’re seriously not going to tell me how to uncover this danger?" She questioned, while going through some books on the shelves.
’Absolutely not. This is your mission to figure out. It’s intermediate level—there will be many more like it.’ The system replied strictly.
Yue Ning was taken aback by the strictness in its tone. She wanted to ask why it was this cold, but she decided against it.
Maybe the system had upgraded too—just like her. This was her inner thought.
"You could at least recommend some novels I could read, right?" Yue Ning said, and picked up a novel with a smile on her face.
’Sci-fi,’ it replied flatly. Yue Ning smiled, moving to another section.
It was meant to be a peaceful afternoon. But the universe clearly didn’t want her to have a peaceful afternoon.
While she was checking out books, she bumped into a very familiar face—Xu Yuelan.
"Cousin," Xu Yuelan called out forcefully, gritting her teeth in the process.
"Xu Yuelan," Yue Ning calmly replied, nodding to show that she acknowledged her presence.
But what she didn’t know was that this little action of hers caused Xu Yuelan to be extremely furious.
Yue Ning was about to leave when Xu Yuelan blocked her path defiantly while glaring at her.
Yue Ning’s eyes narrowed, her lips pressed into a thin line as she fixed her cold gaze on Xu Yuelan who was not willing to back down.
"Move. Don’t block my path," she said evenly. Although she had a calm expression on her face, Yue Ning was already boiling with rage.
"And what if I don’t? What will you do?" Xu Yuelan spat loudly.
Yue Ning’s eyes turned colder. "Your actions are not befitting of a young lady from a prestigious family. Your actions show that you are a... shrew."
Her words ticked Xu Yuelan off. Her chest rose and fell rapidly as she glared at Yue Ning who calmly arched a brow.
"You are nothing more than a lowlife. You might be Uncle’s daughter but you’re still nothing compared to me." Xu Yuelan forced out, pointing at herself in the process.
Yue Ning chuckled. Staring at her manicure, she responded. "But this so-called lowlife is married to Huo Feng—something you’ll never experience in this lifetime." Her gaze locked with Xu Yuelan’s.
Xu Yuelan’s eyes had already turned red. Yue Ning had hit a sore spot.
"What me? What do you want to say? Come on, I dare to speak. Speak up!"
Perhaps, due to Yue Ning’s loud voice, a lot of customers gathered around them as they watched the confrontation between both women.
Xu Yuelan’s face burned with humiliation. It only heightened when she heard the whispering of a few customers.
"It seems she is bullying the other woman."
"I have long disliked Xu Yuelan."
"She needs to be reminded that she isn’t Huo Feng’s fiancé. He has nothing to do with hef anymore."
"All of you... shut up!" She yelled, and the whispering ladies shut their mouths instantly.
Xu Yuelan turned her attention to Yue Ning. "This isn’t over. You won’t always have the last laugh." It was a threat. Afterwards, she turned around with her head held high and walked out of the bookstore.
"I will be waiting to see what tricks are up your sleeves." Yue Ning said calmly, a perfect contrast to Xu Yuelan’s humiliated gaze.
Xu Yuelan’s gaze burned brighter, and she hurriedly left the bookstore.
Yue Ning flicked her sleeve before resuming in her actions.
A while later, she had picked up the novels she needed, and she walked out of the bookstore. She walked to the car, and the driver ignored the engine, and drove away.
Yue Ning remained oblivious to the woman seated in the coffee shop opposite the bookstore. A mole dotted her left eye, and her face was split between beauty and ruin—one side flawless, the other etched with scars.
The woman leaned forward, eyes following the car as her lips curved into a smirk. "Yue Ning..." she whispered, the smirk on her lips deepening.
