Chapter 23 The Vampire Ancestor's Revival

"Little girl, are you alone?" A burly man with a scar on his face cornered Yaxin.

Yaxin looked fearfully at the two men who clearly looked like trouble. She regretted ditching the bodyguard her brother had arranged for her. Yaxin hesitated, wondering if she should use the protective charm her brother had given her.

"In broad daylight, two gentlemen bullying a weak woman. Isn't that a bit ungentlemanly!"

It was at this moment that Blass appeared, like a hero before Yaxin. The most important part of a hero saving a damsel is the last word. If Blass had been as burly as the other two, Yaxin would have already called her brother.

Yaxin, her cheeks flushed, gazed at the handsome young man before her. So handsome!

Blass fought the two burly men with flair. With a final kick and a powerful "Scram!", the men fled in disarray. Blass casually adjusted his hair, then turned with a gentle, gentlemanly air, "My dear beautiful lady, the danger has passed! May I be so fortunate as to know your name?"

Yaxin bashfully replied, "Thank you, kind sir! You may call me Yaxin or Xin'er. May I know your name, so I may repay your life-saving kindness in the future!"

"There's no need for such formality, my lady. I am Blass, merely an ordinary gentleman. It is the duty of every gentleman to help those in need, and it is my honor to assist such a beautiful lady as yourself!" Blass looked at Yaxin with affectionate eyes, his every movement exuding ingrained gentlemanly etiquette.

Yaxin was captivated by Blass's gentle, doting gaze. "Young Master Blass is truly a model of gentlemanly conduct!"

Blass smiled gently. "Miss Yaxin, you must have been frightened. May I have the honor of escorting you home?"

Yaxin extended her delicate hand. "Thank you, Young Master Blass!"

Blass, understanding the principle of maintaining a certain distance from his prey, kept his eyes straight ahead during the walk, projecting the image of a kind young man who helped those in distress.

At their parting, Yaxin said with reluctance, "My home is nearby. Young Master Blass should also return soon!"

"Indeed! Miss Yaxin, remember to drink a calming soup when you get home, otherwise you might have nightmares." Blass remained gentle and considerate.

"Mhm!" Yaxin nodded, her face flushed. She wouldn't have nightmares! She'd be more likely to have sweet dreams about seeing someone as handsome as Young Master Blass!

Blass soon found the two burly men from earlier. "Young Master Blass, the act is over. Please pay the remaining fee!"

"Certainly! Come closer, and I'll give it to you!" Blass's smile was as warm and inviting as ever.

The burly men, suspecting nothing, stepped closer. The moment Blass was within reach, he bared his fangs and lunged. In an instant, the men were drained into desiccated husks.

"Ah! A vampire!" The other burly man scrambled to escape.

Trying to run? Blass teleported in front of the other man and drained him into a husk as well. Blass licked the blood from his lips, still not fully satisfied. These two were just enough to whet his appetite after restraining himself for so long in front of Yaxin, a top-tier blood food.

How could a top-tier blood food be treated like ordinary prey? The most delicious is that which is given willingly.

After his feast, Blass didn't forget to dispose of the evidence. He set fire to the two desiccated corpses, the standard method for vampires to deal with used blood food.

Not long after Blass left, a group of people in specialized vampire hunter uniforms arrived at the scene, where only ashes remained of the burly men. "Still warm. The vampire must have left recently."

"Hurry and search!" the leader said grimly. Vampires were becoming more active lately.

As soon as Yaxin entered her home, she was caught by Yafengyu, who was waiting for her in the living room.

"You're back?" Yafengyu was determined to teach his fearless sister a lesson and couldn't let her continue to be so willful.

Yaxin guiltily scurried to Yafengyu and pouted, "Brother, I was wrong! I won't do it again!"

Seeing Yaxin's charming plea, Yafengyu's heart softened. After all, she was his only family in the world.

"Didn't I tell you to try not to go out during this period? And if you do, you must bring your bodyguard. Don't you know how much your blood attracts those vampires?"

Yafengyu shuddered at the memory of what happened years ago. He had only recently become a vampire hunter, and Yaxin had secretly hidden in his luggage without his knowledge. If his team hadn't been strong enough, and if they hadn't learned of Yaxin's unusually potent attraction to vampires before entering vampire territory, they would all have become food for the vampires.

"I know, but I was just walking around the city. It shouldn't be that dangerous!" Yaxin said dismissively.

Yafengyu took Yaxin's hand and said earnestly, "Xin'er, it might not have been dangerous before, but it's different now! The Vampire Hunter Guild has kept the news quiet, only saying that a few vampires have infiltrated the capital. But I am a high-ranking member of the Guild, and this is far more serious than just a few infiltrators. An ancient vampire ancestor has awakened. We might be on the brink of war!"

"War? Is it that serious? Didn't you kill a vampire ancestor before? It's just a vampire, why such a fuss?" Yaxin still didn't understand.

Yafengyu blamed himself for spoiling his sister too much, and for not adequately educating her on the basics just because she lacked the talent to be a vampire hunter.

"Vampires have ranks. The one I killed before was merely the ancestor of a minor ancestor. This one who has awakened is said to be a direct descendant of the progenitor of vampires, hundreds of times more dangerous! More importantly, every awakened vampire ancestor requires a large amount of blood food for nourishment. If your existence is discovered, I can't guarantee your safety!"

"So, promise me, if you must go out, you'll bring the bodyguard I prepared for you!"

"Alright!" Yaxin nodded, seeing her brother's serious expression.

"Captain Ya, there have been disappearances in the capital! The Guild requests your presence to discuss countermeasures!" someone suddenly rushed in.

"Understood!" Yafengyu nodded, and again cautioned Yaxin, "You heard him, absolutely do not go out!"

With that, Yafengyu strode off to the Vampire Hunter Guild. The other two members were already present.

Bowman said mockingly, "The situation is dire, and Captain Ya is still so unhurried!"

Yafengyu snorted, "That's better than someone preparing to flee!"

Wang Yi mediated, "It's all for the future of the empire, let's not argue!"

The High Priest also banged on the table, "As you all know, people are starting to disappear in the capital, which means the vampire clan has begun their move. You must work to stop them, otherwise, it will be even harder to deal with once Dracula's Starfall fully recovers its strength."

The three also said with solemn faces, "We will obey the High Priest's command!"
