Xingyuan opened her hazy eyes and stared at the dark ceiling. After a moment of mental blankness, she sat up.
A faint tinkling sound echoed in the room. Xingyuan then noticed that a delicate little bell had been tied to her wrist at some point.
Not long after, the door opened, and Wen Yiyue walked in.
"Sister~" Xingyuan called out instinctively, her eyes filled with attachment.
Wen Yiyue's carefully constructed resolve instantly crumbled. So cute! She really wanted to pet her.
But thinking of her previous plan, she deliberately put on a cold face, pretending to be angry.
Xingyuan looked at Wen Yiyue, who was just staring at her without speaking. The scene from last night involuntarily flashed through her mind. It wasn't that excessive, was it?
"Is Sister angry?" Xingyuan asked in a soft, weak voice, her eyes blinking.
"Mmm~ Honestly, why did you go to that place last night?" Wen Yiyue's eyes held a deeply hidden worry. Could A'yuan have discovered something?
She hadn't felt anything when she acted before, but now, being stared at by those pure eyes, she inexplicably felt a sense of guilt. Did she, with bloodstained hands, deserve to stand beside this person?
But soon, that guilt turned into obsession. Since she had already regarded the person in front of her as her light, no matter what, she would not let this ray of light slip through her fingers, by any means necessary.
Xingyuan could clearly feel the change in Wen Yiyue's emotions but didn't understand why. Did her sister also have moments when her body was out of control, just like her?
Wen Yiyue made up her mind, her eyes sharp.
"I just, I just heard it was lively there, so I went to play!" Xingyuan nervously twisted her fingers, the bell jingling softly.
Then Xingyuan remembered something and asked righteously, "Then why were you there, Sister? Didn't you say you had something to do?"
Wen Yiyue's breath hitched. She also remembered the excuse she had given Xingyuan earlier.
"Mmm, I was coincidentally there discussing matters with a friend," Wen Yiyue sat down, her imposing aura diminishing.
"Really? Is this friend male or female?" Xingyuan became suspicious. Although Sister was always reliable, she had read so many storybooks. Many relationships between male and female protagonists broke down because of those opposite-sex friends. She had to prevent trouble before it started.
Wen Yiyue's gaze flickered, her guilt evident.
"That's not important! I'm asking you now!" Wen Yiyue came to her senses and realized she had been questioned by Xingyuan. She retorted with unwarranted confidence.
Xingyuan remained silent, just looking at her pitifully, her eyes seeming to say something.
Wen Yiyue couldn't stand it. While cursing herself for being weak, she gently coaxed the young girl.
"It's a man. I sat with him for a while, and he left after we finished discussing things. Don't overthink it."
"Really? Sister won't lie to me, will you!" Xingyuan was secretly happy but maintained a pitiful expression.
"Of course not! Sister likes A'yuan the most. In my heart, no one can compare to you," Wen Yiyue's sweet words flowed out, but every word was from the heart.
"I knew Sister was the best!" Xingyuan hugged her softly, her inner self jumping for joy.
See! She knew her charm was unparalleled, and a crisis was resolved so easily. Xingyuan laughed inwardly, her expression unchanged.
After a long while, Wen Yiyue finally remembered her purpose.
She cautiously probed, "A'yuan, tell Sister the truth, did you come to Wanxu Tower for Yuezhichen?"
Xingyuan carefully observed Wen Yiyue's expression. She felt it wasn't much of a secret, so she boldly told the truth. "Alright! I heard that many people had died there recently, and I was a bit curious, so I went to see what kind of dangerous place it was."
Wen Yiyue's heart trembled, and she felt a sense of settled understanding. Was it really because of this matter?
Although she knew this matter couldn't be hidden from Xingyuan from the moment she acted, she cherished this warm and beautiful time and didn't want the gentle and jade-like Doctor Wen in Xingyuan's eyes to become a notorious killer.
She was actually afraid, afraid that Xingyuan would look at her differently after knowing the truth, afraid of being abandoned, and even more afraid of losing the qualification to stand by her side.
She had already revealed everything to Yue Tangqing, yet she was still afraid. Perhaps it was because this person was too special, and she cared too much about her!
"A'yuan, what kind of person do you think this murderer is?" Wen Yiyue turned her head away, pretending to look at something, not letting Xingyuan see the tension in her eyes.
"She must be... quite capable! At least her skills must be very good, otherwise how could she break through so many defenses to kill someone?"
"Or perhaps, she has a great grasp of human nature. Being able to accurately find the weaknesses of those people is not an easy feat." Xingyuan, unaware of Wen Yiyue's nervousness, spoke her guesses earnestly, her eyes eager. Putting aside other things, she was quite curious to meet this person!
Wen Yiyue's heart beat rapidly. She felt Xingyuan's guess was already very close to reality, but her sense of panic grew. Yet, she merely nodded slightly, as if agreeing with Xingyuan's statement.
"A'yuan is right. However, the people who died were not good people. She was also eliminating harm for the people. We don't need to investigate so thoroughly," Wen Yiyue's eyelashes fluttered as she cautiously observed Xingyuan's expression.
Xingyuan's brow furrowed slightly, seemingly disagreeing.
"Even so, I'm still quite curious about this person who can make noble families suffer setbacks. So, if there's a chance, I'd like to see if this person is male or female, and how they are so powerful."
Xingyuan harbored some unrealistic guesses. But looking at the nervous expression on Wen Yiyue's face, it seemed her guesses had some basis.
Even though Sister appeared quite enthusiastic in front of her in this life, Xingyuan could still feel that Wen Yiyue was not inherently warm-hearted, but rather cold. She rarely cared about other things, let alone discussing this murderer with her for so long.
Moreover, Sister seemed to be intentionally speaking well of the murderer, so Xingyuan followed her lead.
As expected, she saw a hint of relief on Wen Yiyue's face, as if she was very pleased with her idea.
If that person were indeed Sister, it didn't seem so unacceptable. After all, the person she admired, the Sister who had always taken care of her, was never a sheltered young lady who knew nothing of the world, but possessed the heroic spirit of facing thousands of people alone.
