Several men charged at Wei Hui with suicidal bravery, but after a few gunshots, they fell to the ground, their breaths extinguished within seconds.
The remaining men were struck dumb with fear, trembling as they looked at Wei Hui.
In the eyes of most, Wei Hui was a gentle soul. Seeing his violent side for the first time, how could they not be terrified?
Wei Hui paid them no mind, or perhaps he simply didn't care.
He pulled a cloth from his pocket and meticulously wiped his hands, a gentle smile on his face. "Sister, there are a few minor matters to attend to. You should go back and rest first!"
"I'll be done soon, and I'll come find you later."
Wei Hui's smile was exceedingly gentle, yet Meng Fanyue inexplicably shivered, feeling an unusual sense of danger emanating from him.
Xing Yuan, however, was accustomed to it. After all, few of her disciples had normal temperaments.
"Alright, I'll leave it to you," Xing Yuan said softly.
As Xing Yuan departed, the smile on Wei Hui's lips gradually vanished, his expression suddenly darkening.
He casually adjusted his black-rimmed glasses. "Either comply, or die. Choose for yourself!"
The men exchanged glances. After a moment of silence, they chose submission. "Boss, hello!"
Wei Hui pouted, clearly displeased. "Tsk! How boring."
He had thought he might have a few more toys to play with.
But since his teacher had arrived, whether he had toys or not didn't matter much.
"Bring the person inside out and have the best doctor treat them," Wei Hui commanded.
Hong Tao was the primary reason he had decided to deal with them. Since the person was now dead and the incident had not been reported, there was no need to pursue it further.
The teacher's friends were his friends, and it was only natural to sacrifice some benefits for friends.
Duan Ling was thus released.
Duan Ling, still somewhat dazed upon emerging, eyed Wei Hui warily as he approached. "What do you want?"
She didn't believe he was acting out of pure kindness. Her release must be because she could bring him even greater benefits.
Duan Ling understood the principle of prioritizing profit better than anyone.
It was like when she was younger, looking after her younger siblings. Because she was the eldest, she had to bear the greatest burden.
However, later, when she realized that no matter what she did, she couldn't earn their affection, she changed her approach.
Wei Hui chuckled lightly and casually brushed some dust off Duan Ling's shoulder. "Don't worry, there's nothing about you that's worth my trouble to scheme for."
Duan Ling stiffened but found herself unable to refute him. They were like rootless duckweed. Though their abilities were valued, their status here was always the lowest.
Duan Ling lowered her gaze, concealing her inner resentment. When she looked up again, her eyes held an obvious smile.
"Then thank you, Officer."
Wei Hui seemed surprised. He had thought they would place a high value on their pride.
But he said nothing, merely nodding with a cool demeanor before turning to leave.
A bitter smile bloomed on Duan Ling's face. Dignity, she had learned many years ago, was useless. It could never change anything.
"Captain!" Peng Mu's eyes were filled with worry. "He won't cause any more trouble, will he?"
Duan Ling shook her head and hesitated. "Xiao Mu, tell me, what exactly happened before? What made him suddenly change his mind?"
Peng Mu nodded and recounted everything that had happened previously.
Duan Ling was adept at summarizing key points, and so she smiled.
"It seems that Meng Fanyue's savior has quite an extraordinary background!"
Duan Ling always liked to be prepared. She had secretly glanced at Wei Hui's file, which stated he was an orphan.
Whether this was the truth or a deliberate concealment of his past made no difference to Duan Ling. However, it was enough for her to elevate Xing Yuan's status even higher.
As soon as she returned, Meng Fanyue, who had been holding back her questions all the way, immediately asked, "Sister, do you know Wei Hui?"
She used to think Wei Hui was a decent person. But if he intended to compete with her for someone, even though she was weak, she wouldn't be easily bullied.
However, given Wei Hui's status, the captain's safety was likely assured.
Xing Yuan saw Meng Fanyue's concern and couldn't help but find it amusing. So, her sister had reached this point too!
Xing Yuan deliberately sighed, her face full of emotion. "Yes! I didn't expect to meet him here either."
This was the truth. She had inadvertently taught too many disciples, and now she truly didn't know where they all were.
Meng Fanyue puffed out her cheeks, resembling a cute little hamster practicing holding its breath. She wanted to say something but felt she lacked the standing to do so at the moment. In the end, she simply pursed her lips in silence.
After a long pause, she managed to blurt out, "Sister, be careful not to be deceived by men. The more handsome a man is, the more he'll lie."
Xing Yuan chuckled softly, her expression brimming with joy.
She reached out and gently stroked Meng Fanyue's chin, teasing her for a moment before sighing softly. "If you don't say it, how will I know if you're angry or jealous?"
"You, you..." Meng Fanyue began to stammer, her face turning bright red.
"Me? What about me? Hmm?" Xing Yuan said, looking at her with encouraging eyes.
"How did you know?" Meng Fanyue finally asked.
"Silly! You were so obvious, of course, I could tell!" Xing Yuan replied with a low chuckle.
Only this innocent sister would think she had hidden her feelings well and that others couldn't see them.
Moreover, the way she looked at her was far from innocent.
Meng Fanyue was easily embarrassed, but since the conversation had reached this point, she felt she couldn't back down.
She paused for a moment, silently preparing herself psychologically.
Finally, she looked up at Xing Yuan earnestly. "I admit, my feelings are not entirely pure. So, Sister, would you like to try with me?"
"I'm very well-behaved, Sister can try.
And I can help you drive away insects in the summer and warm your bed in the winter. Being with me is definitely not a loss."
Meng Fanyue earnestly stated her advantages, but her eyes betrayed her nervousness.
Watching Meng Fanyue try so hard to praise herself, Xing Yuan suddenly remembered her past self.
It seemed she had also offered herself in a similar manner.
Because she had experienced hardship, Xing Yuan did not choose to tear down Meng Fanyue's umbrella. Instead, she readily nodded. "Alright!"
This was exactly what Xing Yuan had hoped for. Although her emotions had not fully reawakened and she didn't fully understand this kind of feeling,
none of that mattered. As long as she stayed by her side.
This was the warmest harbor in her heart, irreplaceable.
