Chapter 90: 090 Miss Yan, would you like to make a bet with me?_1

After a quick, discreet assessment, Yan Moling turned to Wen Jiang.

Wen Jiang gestured towards the sofa. "Miss Yan, please sit. Would you like juice or plain water? I apologize, there’s no one else at home, so these are what I usually drink."

Yan Moling’s gaze swept over the two rabbit-themed mugs on the coffee table—one red, one blue (which Nian Jian had bought online). The water in the red rabbit mug wasn’t finished, and the blue rabbit mug was in front of Wen Jiang.

She doesn’t even put much effort into her lies, Yan Moling thought.

She offered a faint smile. "Plain water is fine, thank you."

Wen Jiang went to pour her a glass of water, using a paper cup.

So there’s clearly someone else in this house, Yan Moling deduced. A flicker of deep thought crossed her eyes, but she didn’t speculate further.

Wen Jiang handed the paper cup to Yan Moling. She received it with both hands but didn’t drink immediately, instead asking directly, "Miss Wen, you’re a Card Maker, so you must have some idea why I’m here. We’ve already tested the ability of ’Jade Rabbit Pestle Medicine,’ and it surpasses the effects of most A-Rank Cards on the market. We’d like to ask you a question: why wouldn’t you keep such an excellent card as your signature creation?"

Yan Moling also knew Wen Jiang had made the Dual-Change Card. However, since B-Level cards weren’t used in official battles, the Empire wouldn’t pay them much attention. In the hands of any other Card Maker, this would be a god-tier card they would never release. Not only did Wen Jiang release it, but she did so anonymously and at a price so low it stunned everyone.

The card’s background story involved ancient historical texts that they had only recently unearthed. This forced Yan Moling and the powers behind her to seriously consider: what exactly was Wen Jiang trying to do?

Her biographical data revealed she was a girl who had previously endured severe bullying. A review of the first twenty years of her life showed hardship, ordinariness, and a constant struggle for survival. This was a reflection of the lives of many at the bottom of society, and the Empire currently lacked the capacity to care for more people. The Nobility had already taken root in this world, an existence that fundamentally should not be present in the Yunxia Empire.

So, what was it about that severe bullying incident that had spurred such a profound transformation in Wen Jiang?

Yan Moling had already envisioned many possible answers Wen Jiang might give, fully expecting lies to be part of them.

Instead, Wen Jiang held up the blue rabbit mug, her tone light and casual, as if she were discussing something utterly mundane. "It’s because I can make many cards and ensure they all surpass the strength of Jade Rabbit Pestle Medicine. So, I don’t really mind."

Yan Moling’s pupils dilated slightly. "Is that truly the only reason? So, you’re doing a good deed?"

Wen Jiang nodded emphatically. "You could say that."

Yan Moling was truly shaken. With most cards currently monopolized, is there really someone willing to do such a thing? For a moment, she even felt ashamed of her previous assumptions. Had she judged a noble character by her own petty standards?

No! Yan Moling shook her head slightly. She had almost been led astray by Wen Jiang. The issue wasn’t whether Wen Jiang was doing good deeds, but the source of her inspiration for creating cards.

"Miss Wen, I’m actually very curious. Is the ancient Yunxia cultural background you mentioned real? To be frank, not long ago, the Empire unearthed some ancient texts from a ruin. One story within them corresponded to your card’s background, but this discovery was made after you had created the card."

Yan Moling chose to lay her cards on the table. She had to know where Wen Jiang’s inspiration for card creation came from.

"After my accident, I had a dream," Wen Jiang began lightly. "I believe Miss Yan knows what happened to me. During that period, I had a strange and vivid dream. In the dream, I went to a wondrous world where I witnessed the mythological civilization of Yunxia. I met many Yunxia gods, and I also saw Bai Ze and Bi Fang."

Yan Moling’s heart fluttered slightly.

Wen Jiang suddenly raised her voice, her tone becoming noticeably more solemn. "In the dream, someone told me I was about to shoulder an important mission: to restore the ancient civilization of Yunxia—or more precisely, the origin of the Yunxia god race. I am the one chosen by the gods."

Yan Moling’s lips twitched.

If you insist on putting it that way, it’s not entirely wrong, Zero Egg conceded internally. She could boast like that without her heart skipping a beat. For that alone, it would always admire its host.

Wait! Zero Egg suddenly realized, startled by Wen Jiang’s abrupt change—even it hadn’t anticipated this. It was aghast. You don’t mean... that’s actually true, do you?

So that’s how Wen Jiang suddenly gained spiritual power and could create such ingeniously conceived cards!

Yan Moling’s expression was complex. "I don’t believe it, unless you make a few more cards."

She’s trying to get cards for free, Zero Egg grumbled to itself.

Wen Jiang was a generous person. With a raise of her hand, the Changer Card Spirit appeared before Yan Moling.

Changer, exuding an ethereal aura and even hovering in mid-air, glanced curiously at Yan Moling. The silk ribbons she wore drifted in the living room—a sight entirely beyond what an ordinary human could imagine. Changer drifted closer to Yan Moling out of curiosity, causing Yan Moling to stiffen suddenly.

An A-Rank Card Spirit, not in combat mode—after all, they were indoors with inherent environmental restraints—but it didn’t stop Yan Moling from feeling threatened.

But Changer merely floated before her, gave her a gentle look, her expression tinged with sorrow, and said, "You are not my Hou Yi."

Wen Jiang’s composed demeanor shattered in an instant. "Sister Changer, at least use your eyes! Can’t you even tell male from female?"

Changer ignored Wen Jiang, her expression growing even more mournful. "Hou Yi, where is my Hou Yi?"

"You two will reunite soon," Wen Jiang said perfunctorily to Changer, while simultaneously creating a Copy of the Changer Card for Yan Moling. "I’m a generous person. She’s part of the Jade Rabbit Pestle Medicine background. You can try out this card’s power."

Yan Moling accepted the Changer Card. As an S-Rank Spirit Card Master, she could even replicate a new Changer Card on the spot by merely drawing on a portion of the power from the card pool in Wen Jiang’s home.

When the Changer Card’s abilities registered in her mind, a flash of shock indeed crossed Yan Moling’s eyes.

Even S-Rank Spirit Card Masters used A-Rank Cards. This was another divine-level Support Card, incredibly versatile with defense, control, and status enhancement capabilities. In its ascended state, it would undoubtedly be the nightmare of all stealth cards.

Jade Rabbit Pestle Medicine, the Changer Card, and the yet-to-be-revealed Hou Yi whom Wen Jiang mentioned—this combination truly couldn’t be described by ordinary inspiration. Most importantly, the card could actually be used in multiple states, and Wen Jiang had successfully constructed it that way!

"So," Wen Jiang tilted her head, smiling at Yan Moling. "Miss Yan, would you like to make a bet with me?"

"Will you bet on viewing me as a dangerous individual, apprehending me to interrogate me for my secrets, which would mean I’d never create another new card?"

"Or will you bet on collaborating with me, wagering that I will bring a groundbreaking revolution to the history of Yunxia’s cards?"
