Chapter 540 Research Progress
In the spacious spaceship laboratory, a series of bio-cultivation devices were running quietly. Each silver-white integrated workbench held a large transparent jar, with a small amount of blood-red viscous liquid slowly surging at the bottom, as if alive, constantly trying to climb the outer wall of the jar. Above those liquids, many biological tissues resembling blood vessels and tendons supported some strangely shaped… organs.
Those were the results of the cultivation devices' work over the past few days, bizarre life forms created from the primal cells originating from the "Holy Coffin."
The data terminal connected itself to the laboratory's analysis mainframe, reporting the progress, "Cultivation cannot proceed beyond this stage. These biological tissues will cease development and no longer undergo functional differentiation. Their genetic factor structure is strange, storing far more information than these current forms express, but some factor prevents this genetic information from manifesting, possibly related to the supernatural power of the Goddess. Furthermore, each cultivation jar produces slightly different organs, possibly related to the collection location of the primal cells. This unit remembers collecting cells from seven locations on the Life Progenitor."
"These are the organs of the First Seed?" Lily curiously leaned against the nearest workbench, peering at the bizarre "meat" chunks inside the cultivation jar. They looked somewhat similar to animal flesh, but the color and texture had a hint of plant fiber, with a surface that was both flexible and well-defined. "Looks a bit…"
"Gross, right?" Nangong Wuyue stuck out her tongue, "Feels like a horror movie."
Lily licked her lips, "No, it looks a bit appetizing, hehe! This is meat!"
Everyone: "…"
"Drag this one to the back, to prevent her from touching the samples," Hao Ren, in a cold sweat, had Vivian keep a close eye on the idiotic husky, "You're crazy for roast meat!"
Lily, being dragged to the back by Vivian, kept jumping, "This is meat! This really looks like meat! Just a bite, please..."
"Let's continue with the serious matters," Hao Ren wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, turned around, and looked at the data terminal, "Do you think the cultivation results are correct? Is this really part of the First Seed?"
"Not certain," the data terminal honestly admitted that this experiment was not so perfect, "The primal cells underwent many incomprehensible self-selections and mutations during development, and only then did they become this appearance. This unit is uncertain whether these things are the First Seed – it seems impossible to deduce its original form from the First Seed's cells. Without the guidance of the Goddess's supernatural power, these things are just defective products."
Hao Ren frowned, "Then at least there should be some other results, right? At least a little understanding of the First Seed."
The data terminal wobbled up and down, "There are some results in this area. The cells used for cultivation came from a necrotic ganglion of the First Seed, so these mutated tissues now being cultivated are also related to neural activity. If they hadn't mutated into this form… they should have become part of the First Seed's brain tissue, or rather, they are the seed's brain. These organs have complex neural conduction foundations, as well as receiving and transmitting structures resembling antennas – but something went wrong with this part of the receiving and transmitting structure, and it cannot function. This unit activated a sample, and its antenna only received a jumble of static."
"Brain part?" Hao Ren looked at the sample in the jar with interest, "Then do they have thinking ability? If we apply reasonable stimulation."
"They have complex reflex mechanisms, but no signs of intelligence," the data terminal replied, then suddenly mentioned a strange phenomenon, "Also, there's another discovery. Look at cultivation jar number one."
As the data terminal finished speaking, a small crack suddenly opened at the top of cultivation jar number one, and then a green plant was thrown inside. The biological tissues and red liquid in the jar immediately sensed something, twisting and surging. The green plant was quickly swallowed by the red liquid, but after a moment, the red liquid harmlessly retreated to the side, and the plant was unharmed, even looking more vibrant than when it was thrown in.
"This is a live sample," the data terminal said, "Now look at the dead sample."
The green plant in the jar was taken out, and then a withered clump of vegetation was thrown in.
The red liquid once again enveloped the "foreign object." In just a second or two, the latter was completely digested.
"This is…" Izhaks looked at what was happening in the jar in surprise, "Eating?"
Elizabeth, holding a small screwdriver, wanted to go over, but she was lifted back by her dad after taking two steps. The little girl fussed, "I won't take it apart! I won't take it apart! I'm not a bear child, I know this cannot be touched – I just want to see..."
But no one paid attention to the little girl's argument: she might really know this cannot be touched, but a child's actions… who dares to guarantee anything?
"It avoids living organisms, right?" Hao Ren saw the trick, "It's a scavenger."
"Scavenging, and considering it's the First Seed's ganglion, and also the early 'control panel' of the eldest son, this unit speculates that the First Seed and even the later-hatched eldest son survive based on the judgment mechanism of this ganglion, which is 'scavenging'," the data terminal stated its conjecture, "From this, we can judge some of the First Seed's and the original form of the eldest son's behavior patterns: they create life, evolve ecosystems, and take on the final link in the food chain themselves, recycling necrotic biological tissues and nutrients in the soil to supply the entire cycle. They are responsible for providing the initial creation and final recycling of the ecosystem, while the intermediate evolutionary process is left to the second son, thus completing a 'job'."
The data terminal added one last sentence, "In addition, it can be fed silicon minerals, water, sulfides, and carbon, which proves that the eldest son can adapt to a variety of nutritional environments, and it can create organic matter itself even in the complete absence of organic matter."
"Scavenging, sounds like a gentle personality," Vivian said thoughtfully.
"It is indeed a gentle diet, but I estimate it has little to do with 'personality'," the data terminal explained, "The analysis mainframe speculates that this scavenging nature is only to ensure that the work goes without problems, to prevent the Blood Tide from mistakenly devouring the life it has created. Because setting up a complex filtering mechanism to select which organisms can be eaten and how much should be eaten each meal would consume too many nerve cells. So, the creator of the seed simply set a rule to make it a scavenger, only eating the dead, completely avoiding living life, which protects the ecosystem. The ganglion's suppression of the eldest son's activities probably activates a similar mechanism."
"But the eldest son's 'scavenging nature' is clearly out of control; it eats everything," Hao Ren raised his eyelids, "Or, to put it more directly, it is deliberately out of control; it wants to destroy the ecosystem."
"The eldest son's initial offensive ability should have come from its 'eating' mechanism, but in the later stages, in order to destroy the second son, it began to develop various weapons, such as seed shells capable of space combat. This is clearly completely out of control," the data terminal said with some emotion, "Look at how perfect its initial safety mechanism was, but the system eventually collapsed. This shows that a centralized network is not as reliable as a distributed network; if the server has a problem, all the terminals below are finished."
A PDA's perspective was indeed unique.
"Although there's no way to analyze the reason for the eldest son's loss of control or the whereabouts of the Goddess from these organs, we still have some results," the data terminal said, returning to the main topic after a moment of reflection. It directed an autonomous machine to deliver two small boxes to Hao Ren.
The boxes were opened. One contained a silver-white sphere with neat blue patterns distributed across its surface, flickering as if breathing. The other box contained several transparent containers filled with pale red liquid.
"What does this egg do?" Lily came up from behind again, "Uh… why do I think of Beanie whenever I see an egg now?"
"This is a suppression signal emitter," the data terminal's voice was a bit helpless, "It can perfectly simulate the Life Progenitor's signal, allowing the eldest son to continue sleeping. We can put this on the eldest son of Holleta, and then we could put a nuclear bomb on it and it wouldn't react."
"What about the rest of this?"
"Interference pheromones, created using those cell samples and Source Blood," the data terminal obviously attached greater importance to these substances, "The suppression signal emitter is an easily problematic thing. Once the signal is interrupted, the eldest son will immediately awaken, but the interference pheromones can serve as a second layer of insurance: they can briefly awaken the eldest son's 'scavenging mechanism,' preventing it from devouring living life."
