Chapter 217 There's Plenty to Keep Us Busy
Becky was dumbfounded seeing a group of familiar faces appear before her. It wasn't until Hao Ren called out that she came back to her senses, pointing at the people in front of her with a bewildered expression, then gesturing at the strange surroundings: "Where is this?! How did I get here?"
Hao Ren was even more surprised than Becky: "This is my house! How did you get here?"
"Your house?" Becky almost jumped up. "This is the Northern Empire?! Don't try to fool me, I've read books! Do the residents of the Northern Empire live in places like this? It's not like anything I've seen in the newspapers!"
Hao Ren struggled to calm down amidst the chaos. Although he didn't know why Becky had been pulled into the surface world along with them, the fact was before him, and he had to figure out a solution: "The situation is complicated, okay? This isn't the Holta Empire—in fact, this place is beyond your worldview. I'll explain later. For now, put your sword away, and let's go to the living room to talk…"
Becky looked at Hao Ren with a mixture of shock and suspicion. She had known there was something strange about this group of people for a while, but she never expected them to drag her into such a bizarre situation. But in the end, she obediently put away her enchanted longsword, and then suddenly remembered something: "Wait! Could it be that your spatial teleportation messed up again?"
Vivian covered her face: "Although it wasn't spatial teleportation… it does seem like the teleportation messed up…"
Becky jumped up and down, shouting: "I knew it! All you spatial mages are clumsy! I made sure to stay more than ten meters away from you guys to prevent something like this from happening, but apparently, that wasn't a safe distance after all?!"
Hao Ren's face was as long as a donkey's. He felt that he couldn't deny it this time. Clumsy or not, his luck was definitely bad.
Hilda followed Hao Ren and the others upstairs, then was completely confused to find that the little mercenary girl, who should have been left in another world, had also been teleported over. Then she followed the chaotic group back to the living room, still not understanding the situation. Finally, she seized the opportunity to grab Hao Ren: "Is there a problem? Is the teleportation device broken?"
She looked worried, clearly "being able to go home" was almost an obsession for her, and she would be overly sensitive to any hint of it being threatened. Hao Ren waved his hand reassuringly: "It's nothing to do with you. We're just in big trouble."
Becky's eyes darted around, as if she couldn't get enough of looking. Ever since she came out of the kitchen, she had been looking around Hao Ren's house, finding everything incredibly novel. Actually, Hao Ren felt it was pretty novel too: seeing a girl wearing standard leather armor, a war skirt, riding boots, and a windproof scarf, with a shiny enchanted longsword and dagger hanging from her waist, looking like she had just popped out of a fantasy RPG, walking around in a modern living room, wasn't something you saw every day—unless you were at a cosplay convention.
Lily dragged Becky over to sit on the sofa, and Becky immediately sank into it, instinctively crying out: "It's a trap!"
Then, realizing that she hadn't completely sunk in, the mercenary girl giggled foolishly and bounced on the sofa: "Oh, it's a chair, it's so soft. I heard nobles like chairs this soft. No wonder you're so generous, you really are rich, huh?"
The group had been away from home for many days, and there wasn't even a glass of hot water. Vivian quickly ran to the kitchen to boil some, while Lily trotted to the fridge and pulled out a huge pile of things, including drinks and snacks. She shoved everything onto the coffee table and warmly welcomed their guest: "Here, eat up, the bread is almost expired."
"Oh, oh, thank you," Becky was so dizzy that she subconsciously nodded to everything people said. She reached out and touched a bottle of juice that Lily had pushed towards her, and was immediately shocked: "It's so cold!"
Hao Ren slapped Lily on the head: "Drinking cold water in the middle of winter, and you had to pick the ice-cold one, aren't you afraid of getting a stomachache?"
"Not afraid. My ancestors were pulling sleds in the Arctic Circle."
The husky really didn't care about her heritage anymore...
Becky finally came to her senses from the chaos, staring at Hao Ren: "Forget everything else, tell me what's going on! Why did you teleport me to this… this strange place? What is all this stuff?"
"Prepare yourself mentally," Hao Ren coughed twice, then glared at Lily, "Stop using your teeth to open the bottle! You were just complaining that I was using you as a bottle opener, why are you doing it yourself now?"
After scolding his dog as usual, Hao Ren slowly explained the situation to Becky.
According to the regulations of the Space-Time Administration, except for the direct parties involved in a mission, the activities of the Administration should not arbitrarily interfere with the normal lives of unrelated personnel. There was a confidentiality requirement for semi-relevant people like Becky, but now Becky was a victim who had been accidentally involved in the incident, and the Administration was responsible. Hao Ren didn't have to worry about the ban. Of course, the follow-up handling would depend on the accident analysis report—which meant letting the data terminal check what went wrong.
As Becky listened to Hao Ren's explanation, her eyes widened. After a few seconds of silence, she tilted her head and asked with a strange expression: "So this isn't a prank, right?"
"I wish it was a prank," Hao Ren rubbed his forehead, feeling like his head was about to explode. "I already had a pile of things to deal with, and now there's an accident report. I don't even know if I did something wrong… but I didn't do anything, I just clicked 'confirm' in my mind."
After hearing this, Becky lowered her head, and after a while, she looked up: "So I'm in another world now?"
"Yes, another world."
"You guys are actually from another world, and you were on a mission over there?"
"Yes, we're originally from here."
"So that's why you seemed so strange, and didn't even know basic things?"
Hao Ren could only nod repeatedly: "Yes, yes, yes, everything makes sense now, right?"
"No wonder you guys weren't interested in the jewel at all," Becky muttered, then suddenly smiled happily. "Haha, so things like in stories really do happen! I really am destined to become a legendary mercenary!"
Hao Ren was surprised that someone could be so carefree after being accidentally transported to another world: "Aren't you nervous? Disappointed? Confused? Don't you want to find the culprit and take them down with you?"
"Why would I think that?" Becky asked strangely. "This is a good opportunity to broaden my horizons! I've never traveled so far in my life. The most famous heroes in history didn't have this opportunity. I'm going to have fun here for a few days. Anyway, it's not like I can't go back—you guys seem to be running back and forth pretty easily, so what am I worried about?"
Hao Ren was speechless. He realized that the reason other transmigrators were nervous, disappointed, and confused after arriving in another world was because they couldn't go back. But this girl, Becky… she had quickly realized that she had joined a cross-country tour group, and she could have fun and then be sent back. This girl had nerves of steel.
But Hao Ren thought about the special nature of teleportation from the surface world to the Dream Plane. He felt that Becky was being too optimistic, but looking at her happy expression, he couldn't bring himself to say anything.
In the end, he could only sigh: "Okay, you can stay here for a while, let you have enough fun, and also thank you for your help over there."
"No problem, no problem!" Becky waved her hand, then shamelessly imitated Lily and tore open a snack on the coffee table and stuffed it into her mouth. "Wow, the food here is pretty good, but the packaging is too tough… is this prepared for adventurers or mercenaries? It looks like the outer layer is waterproof…"
Hao Ren looked at the troublemaker in front of him with a troubled expression, then suddenly realized something: "By the way, why did you chop my microwave?"
"Microwave? You mean that strange box?" Becky shuddered as she remembered the strange thing that had shocked her when she swung her sword at it. "I didn't know what it was. I was still dizzy when I was suddenly thrown here, and I accidentally touched it. Then a strange energy started to move in that box. I thought it was a booby-trapped treasure chest, so according to experience, I had to chop down on the energy focus first…"
Hao Ren: "..."
He felt like he had a lot of things to deal with.
(Typing on a laptop is too painful, I'm definitely going to the computer store this afternoon to seek salvation. I'll try to update tonight, but if I really can't… well, just pretend I did.)
