Chapter 170 Something to Ask God

Chapter 155 The State of the Goddess

Whether as a simple human being, as the landlord of this group of oddballs, or as an executor under the "goddess," Hao Ren could not ignore the Day of Return. No matter the truth of the matter, it could disrupt the current balance on Earth. Hao Ren didn't know if he should stop it—in fact, he didn't think he was capable of stopping it—but he really wanted to understand the truth of the Day of Return.

The most reliable source of information was of course the sirens. They had brought news of the Day of Return from the deep sea, but the messengers of the past seemed to have withdrawn into the deep sea. The two werewolf elders mentioned this before they left: the sirens who had come ashore in the past had all left the land by 1976 at the latest, so it seemed impossible to find a messenger. Perhaps there were other sirens who had abandoned their mission like Nangong Wuyue's mother, but no one knew where they were now, and finding them would be like searching for a needle in a haystack. Hao Ren didn't plan to look for these sirens for the time being.

Going directly to the deep sea seemed difficult. Even Nangong Wuyue, with her siren bloodline, couldn't get close to certain forbidden places, and Hao Ren felt he would have a hard time too. More importantly, countless aliens and demon hunters around the world were watching the deep sea, and going there rashly could bring unnecessary trouble. So, exploring the deep sea was safer when he had more information.

For Hao Ren, the easiest place to enter and the most likely place to gain information was the Dream Plane.

Going to the Dream Plane might not lead to information directly related to the Day of Return, but at least he could gain a deeper understanding of the alien races on Earth. Looking at the problem from another angle could often break the deadlock, and Hao Ren was very much looking forward to it.

Hao Ren gathered everyone at home to discuss the matter, with Doudou hanging on his arm to listen in. He briefly explained his thoughts and then looked at Vivian, "Remember those papers I brought back for you after I returned from that alien planet last time? You can go and see it with your own eyes this time; you're the only rune expert among us."

Last time when Hao Ren went to the alien planet to bring Doudou home, he had accidentally fallen into the Dream Plane. He had copied down the Leta runes he saw in that world. After Vivian's translation, those runes were just ordinary sentences for warding off evil and praying for good fortune, but Hao Ren thought that there must be more Leta runes applied in various places in the Dream Plane. Bringing Vivian this time would be like having a portable translator.

Izhaks was the only one present who came from another world, and he smiled with interest, "I heard that the aliens on this planet all came from there; I've always wanted to go and see it—but can you take people in?"

"I was thinking about that too," Hao Ren looked down at his hand, "I've had a few experiences of traveling between the Dream Plane and the real world with things. The clothes and shoes on my body and the things I'm holding in my hand can all be brought in and out, so I guess the trick to bringing things in is 'carrying them with you,' or skin contact. But I don't know if I can use this method to bring people in..."

"You enthusiastically imagined a lot of things and finally told me this?" The data terminal hadn't spoken for a long time, and finally popped out to show its presence, "Are you imagining hanging people on your body and then bringing them in like wearing clothes?"

Nangong Wuyue immediately cheered up, "Oh, oh, this method is reliable. I can wrap around the landlord with my tail like last time; it's even tighter than clothes."

"Stop it," Hao Ren waved his hand awkwardly. He seemed to realize that his taken-for-granted method was a bit unreliable. It seemed that taking people to the Dream Plane really needed to be carefully designed. "Terminal, do you have any good ideas?"

"This machine is checking the database. There are some reports on the Dream Plane in the local universe shared database..." the data terminal muttered, "Uh, there's too little information, and they're all individual actions, no team projects."

"Let's go and discuss it with the goddess," Izhaks said in a calm voice, "In my experience, this kind of behavior of projecting into another world is accompanied by danger. A little bit of inaccuracy could throw people into who-knows-where. I know a guy who was thrown into the Papal City because he was wearing a mithril bracelet when he teleported to the human world. He died miserably."

Hao Ren immediately broke out in a cold sweat and picked up the data terminal to prepare for teleportation, "Then there's no time to delay. I'll go find Raven 12345."

As a result, just as he stood up and before he could activate the teleportation, Vivian pointed to his arm, "Put down that bracelet first."

Hao Ren looked down and saw Doudou hugging his arm, her whole body sticking to his forearm like a plaster. The little thing looked up and stared at her "dad" with wide eyes, making a series of gurgling sounds, and then happily wagging her tail—never mind why she was happy, she was just very happy. This little thing had only two states twenty-four hours a day: happy and very happy.

Izhaks had just mentioned the tragedy of the mithril bracelet, and this little thing came to act as his daughter's bracelet. Although she might not cause the teleportation to fail, Hao Ren still pulled the little thing off with great effort, "Stay at home, you're too small. If you get lost when you go out, I won't be able to find you."

The little thing landed on the table and started swaying and jumping around, but it seemed to have understood Hao Ren's words so it didn't cling to him again. Nangong Wuyue found a chopstick to distract Doudou, and Hao Ren took the opportunity to activate the data terminal's teleportation function.

In a trance, the light and shadow changed, and when the surrounding light stabilized, he was already in front of the villa surrounded by thick fog.

The sky was covered with dark clouds.

"This..." Hao Ren looked up at the sky in astonishment. He had never seen such bad weather near Raven 12345's home: as the residence of a goddess, this villa should always be filled with light and warmth, but now it was shrouded in a gloomy cloud. Thick clouds filled all directions and the sky, and clumps of gray-black mist rolled in from all directions like restless seas, rushing towards the villa. This floating building was like a lonely island in a storm, and the surrounding scenery was depressing and frightening.

"Boom!"

A loud noise startled Hao Ren. He saw an unprecedentedly huge purple lightning bolt erupting from the southeast like a giant python, traversing the entire space in the blink of an eye. The clouds were rippled by this lightning bolt.

Gusts of cold wind howled in the garden in front of the villa, and Hao Ren finally remembered to tighten his clothes. He was shocked: how did the goddess's residence suddenly become like this?

No one in the garden could answer his questions. The arcane servants didn't seem to be patrolling outside either. Hao Ren came to the gate of the villa alone. Fortunately, the gate was still operating normally: it opened silently, revealing the deep, bright corridor inside.

After entering the gate, Hao Ren felt a sense of relaxation. The bad weather outside was completely isolated, and at least the inside of the villa was as calm as usual. However, through the huge floor-to-ceiling windows behind him, he could still see that the dense, almost overwhelming clouds outside the villa were still surging in.

A strange electrical sound came from the side, and blue light gathered into a tall humanoid creature a few meters away. This humanoid creature nodded to Hao Ren, which finally reassured Hao Ren: Big Blue looked as normal as ever.

"I'm here to see Raven 12345," Hao Ren said.

Big Blue was as taciturn as usual. It just nodded and turned to lead Hao Ren towards Raven's office.

Pushing open the door of the office, Hao Ren saw a silver-haired figure standing in front of the large floor-to-ceiling windows, looking at the scenery outside. Big Blue made a series of whistling sounds as a greeting and then slowly dissipated into the air. Hao Ren walked into the room on his own, found a chair to sit down as usual, and shouted with a loud voice, "Hi, I thought something big had happened. It's cloudy and lightning outside... I'm here to ask you about something."

Raven turned around and looked at Hao Ren curiously, "You're Hao Ren? The interesting assistant that 12345 mentioned?"

Hao Ren: "...?"
