Chapter 9 What Use is Sixth Sense Alone?

Chapter 1 What's It Like Living With a Werewolf?

It felt like nothing at all. There was no full moon transformation, no bloodthirsty werewolf slaughtering the whole family, and no demon hunters leading two hundred paladins to punish evil and level his house in the process. Hao Ren felt that the whole night was as calm as if nothing had happened: the werewolf was easy to talk to, paid the rent obediently, and didn't go berserk after transforming. Her only characteristics were being afraid of cats, a bit of a chatterbox, and slightly annoying. Apart from that, she had no other shortcomings, and she looked cute whether she transformed or not, so it didn't seem unacceptable.

Early the next morning, Hao Ren was awakened by a wet, prickly feeling on his face. When he opened his eyes, he saw a black and white furry, silly face staring at him, with only one message in its two golden vertical pupils: Breakfast!

"Good morning, Scram." Hao Ren forced himself not to fall back asleep, yawning and stretching several times before he finally woke up. He waved his second-in-command off the ground and got up to get dressed in a daze.

Then he suddenly remembered that he had a new tenant in his house.

Then he suddenly remembered that the new tenant was an unknown life form claiming to be a werewolf.

This made him toss and turn until late last night before he barely fell asleep. When he woke up this morning, the drowsiness in his head hadn't gone away yet. He couldn't help scratching his head and muttering, "Am I dreaming?"

But he quickly realized that he wasn't dreaming: a burst of clattering footsteps came from the direction of the living room, followed by that somewhat familiar, loud voice: "Landlord! Landlord, does your TV not have a signal? Didn't the advertisement say there would be TV to watch?"

Hao Ren sighed, finally accepting the fact that his life had changed from this point on, but he knew that he wasn't ready for it at all—to be honest, unless you've been obsessed with fantasy for years and your imagination has invaded reality, who could be prepared for this situation! He had no idea how to get along with a werewolf or what would happen the next day. In the current situation… he'd just have to take it one step at a time.

He pushed open the door and saw Lily already sitting in the living room. The werewolf girl had also changed clothes. She was wearing a cool little tank top and denim shorts, radiating youth and vitality. Her slightly tan skin combined with this outfit made her look like she had just come from a fitness competition. Seeing Hao Ren come out of the room, Lily immediately waved happily, "Good morning, Landlord! Why doesn't the TV have a signal?"

Then she saw the black and white kitten perched on Hao Ren's shoulder with an expression of inspecting her domain. She immediately did a backflip and jumped behind the sofa, cautiously revealing half of her head. A pair of eyes that had turned light gold stared at the cat's face, and after a long while, she stammered a greeting in an almost worshipful tone, "S-Scram… Good morning."

"As a werewolf, please have a little more dignity," Hao Ren glanced at Lily silently, feeling that every word he spoke to this girl reduced his sense of crisis about his uncertain future by one point: this one was too good at relieving stress. Then he looked at the LCD TV in the living room, which he had bought only two or three years ago, and saw a blue screen. "The TV is broken? Can't you get a signal in your room either?"

This seemingly unremarkable rented apartment had a very extravagant aspect: each room had a TV. This was something Hao Ren had bought on a whim when "business" was booming a couple of years ago, but because he caught a big sale, it didn't cost too much. Now, having a TV in each room was his most attractive selling point when renting out the house.

Lily nodded, cautiously crawling out from behind the sofa, moving on all fours like a puppy: "There's no signal in my room either. I wanted to watch the documentary channel this morning."

"You like watching documentaries?" Hao Ren asked casually as he crawled behind the TV to see if there was a problem with the wiring. Lily's voice came from behind him: "Not really, but there's a translated film about the story of grassland wolves recently, and I have to keep up with the movements of my family members..."

"Are you from the African grasslands?" Hao Ren turned his head and asked curiously. The subtle feeling of discussing this topic with a werewolf was definitely there.

Lily shook her head: "No, I don't know where I'm from. Maybe somewhere near the snowy plains. My memories before 'awakening' are vague, and I can't remember anything at all. But I think all werewolves are one family—you humans are divided into so many races but you still call yourselves Earthlings, right? I think the main reason why we 'Others' are ostracized to the lowest levels of Earth's society is that we're not united enough..."

Lily started babbling again, and Hao Ren felt that he couldn't keep up with her topic at all—damn it, how was he supposed to respond to this? Discuss evolution or species issues with a canine animal from the snowy plains?

"There's nothing wrong with the wiring, and there's nothing wrong with the TV. Since you can't get a signal in your room either, then there must be something wrong with the signal tower," Hao Ren raised his head from behind the TV and said seemingly professionally. In fact, he didn't know what was going on at all, but he felt that he couldn't lose face in front of a silly werewolf who was scared out of her wits by a cat. "Few people here have cable, so we basically still rely on the TV tower."

"Oh." Lily responded, looking a little disappointed, but the disappointed look disappeared in a few seconds. Hao Ren first filled Scram's food bowl, then prepared to go to the kitchen to cook. But just as he was about to step towards the kitchen, a sudden knocking sound came from the door.

Maybe it was just his imagination, but in the second before the knock sounded, Hao Ren suddenly felt a somewhat familiar chill, but the chill only appeared for a moment like an illusion, and he thought it was just his nerves being too tense.

Lily frowned and twitched her nose, but didn't notice anything. She pointed in the direction of the door: "Landlord, there's a guest!"

"I know, I know," Hao Ren trotted to open the door, wondering who would visit such a remote place. It didn't seem like it was time to collect the water and electricity bills. The door opened, and he habitually said, "Hey, are you looking for…?!"

Standing outside the door was an unfamiliar girl.

She was tall, at least 1.7 meters tall by sight, slender, with hair reaching her waist, wearing a very plain black dress, and old-looking sneakers on her feet. Apart from that, she had no other decorations, but the plain clothes couldn't hide the girl's outstanding appearance: her appearance was delicate and had a kind of "noble" air. Her eyes weren't big, but when she squinted slightly, they seemed to have an elegant beauty. Her nose was small and slightly upturned, and her lips were thin, without makeup but red and lustrous. Her overall face shape seemed to have a bit of Eurasian mixed-blood, giving the impression of a beautiful mixed-race girl. The most eye-catching thing was her complexion: her skin was so clean and soft that it was almost breakable, and unusually white… even too white. Hao Ren even thought it was a bit pale.

Hao Ren wasn't actually a person who couldn't move when he saw beauty. Although he yearned for a relationship, he was still quite composed. He wasn't stunned for so long when he saw a beautiful girl like Lily jumping around in front of him yesterday. The main reason he was stunned now was that the girl in front of him looked even more surprised than he was.

The strange girl at the door shielded the sunlight with her hand, seemingly disliking the too strong sunlight. When she saw Hao Ren open the door, the surprised expression on her face was completely undisguised, and she exclaimed before Hao Ren could even speak: "You're the one from last night… you're not dead?!"

"What kind of talk is that!" Hao Ren subconsciously retorted when he heard this, then realized the amount of information in the other party's words, "Last night… holy crap! Lily, transform!"

Besides Lily, he had only met one "person" last night!

And now he was completely sure that the momentary chill he felt before opening the door wasn't an illusion. It was his magical sixth sense that he had cultivated since he was a child, but the fact proved that having a sixth sense was useless without vigilance—he had already opened the door and was less than two meters away from the attacker from last night!

Hao Ren's last thought in this chapter was: I didn't expect her to be a pretty girl…
