No one had expected that the waiter, who had been diligently slicing lamb, would be capable of such an act.
He wore a mask and the restaurant's uniform, his meat-slicing knife, over twenty centimeters long and greasy, was nonetheless exceptionally sharp.
Wu Chaoyang was eating when he was grabbed by the collar, only then realizing what was happening and attempting to get up and evade.
But the waiter, wearing gloves slick with grease, gripped his collar so firmly that he couldn't move.
The blade was brought towards Wu Chaoyang's exposed neck.
It was already November, and the weather in the capital was quite cold. However, the private room was warm. Wu Chaoyang had previously taken off his jacket, leaving his neck exposed and defenseless to the blade.
As the blade drew closer, capable of piercing his neck in an instant, Wu Chaoyang’s face turned ashen, his eyes filled with deep fear.
He kicked the table, causing the chair to fall backward, attempting to escape the fatal blow this way.
But the waiter, or rather the assassin, was very skilled. His chair overturned, yet Wu Chaoyang could not break free.
The blade descended, drawing a bloody gash across Wu Chaoyang's neck.
Some were stunned, while others leaped up, trying to rush forward and save Wu Chaoyang.
But the event was so sudden that there was no time.
Seated to Wu Chaoyang's right was none other than Xu Yuntian. He reacted relatively quickly, rising and lunging as soon as Wu Chaoyang was grabbed by the collar.
Unfortunately, he was still a bit slow.
Just as the knife was about to plunge in, a whistling sound sliced through the air.
With a *slap*, something struck the assassin's knife-wielding hand.
It was a plate, which had held beef. The beef scattered, and the plate hit the assassin's wrist, forcing his hand open.
The blade still grazed Wu Chaoyang's neck, leaving a bloody mark.
The assassin turned his head to look in the direction of the flying plate and saw Chen Fan standing up.
Chen Fan grabbed a large bowl and, with a *whoosh*, flung it over, with extreme precision.
The assassin intended to continue his attack, but he had to dodge.
In that brief moment, Xu Yuntian grabbed Wu Chaoyang and pulled him away.
Having successfully saved Wu Chaoyang, Chen Fan quickly moved past Li Xinhai and Xu Yuntian by his side and grabbed a chair, thrusting it forward.
The assassin was still unwilling to give up and tried to lunge at Wu Chaoyang again, but was blocked by the chair.
"Help! Help! There's an assassin trying to kill someone!"
Li Qian had already opened the door and shouted outside.
The burly bodyguard outside quickly rushed in.
He knocked the chair aside with a palm strike. Seeing the bodyguards entering, the assassin shot a hateful glance at Chen Fan, then suddenly leaped up and crashed through the window.
With a *crash*, glass shattered, and the assassin inexplicably leaped out the window, moving swiftly and agilely.
"Damn it! Daring to assassinate Young Master Wu, catch him!" Li Qian roared.
Du Fumin also shouted, "Capture him."
The bodyguards lunged towards the window.
They were on the second floor, and outside was a small alley with people coming and going. The bystanders were stunned to suddenly see someone jump out of a window.
Before the bodyguards could pursue, a figure flashed out, having already jumped and rolled upon landing, in pursuit of the assassin.
One of the bodyguards no longer hesitated and followed him down.
"Young Master Wu, how are you? Are you alright? Quickly call an ambulance!"
Xu Yuntian checked Wu Chaoyang's condition and urged him with great urgency.
The others also gathered around to inquire about his well-being.
Wu Chaoyang was the eldest young master of the Wu family, his status higher than theirs.
If something were to happen to him, they would inevitably be implicated and incur the wrath of the Wu family.
For a moment, everyone was filled with worry.
Surprisingly, Wu Chaoyang himself clutched his wound and stood up, saying, "It shouldn't be anything serious."
"Quickly, quickly go to the hospital!"
Du Fumin said.
The remaining bodyguard escorted Wu Chaoyang outwards.
Chen Fan sprinted after the assassin, whose speed was remarkable, displaying physical prowess far beyond that of an ordinary person. He turned into a secluded back alley and disappeared.
When Chen Fan caught up, the assassin was nowhere to be seen.
Amidst the rhythmic footsteps, the bodyguard who had followed caught up and asked, "Where did he go?"
Glancing at the bodyguard, Chen Fan guessed he was one of Wu Chaoyang's men. He casually pointed and said, "Split up and pursue!"
The bodyguard did not hesitate and went in the direction Chen Fan pointed.
Chen Fan himself, after darting into a side alley, dramatically increased his speed.
He had not used his full strength earlier.
He had reacted the moment the assassin made his move. With his ability, he could have repelled the assassin with a mere flick of his wrist, releasing internal energy.
He could have even thrown a cup and killed the assassin.
But in front of so many young masters, he couldn't do that. He merely used bowls and plates to knock away the assassin's hand, preventing Wu Chaoyang from being killed.
He had acted similarly when he first came out, deliberately letting the assassin get away.
As the Lord of the Night, Chen Fan himself had executed countless missions, many of them assassinations.
This assassination, in Chen Fan's opinion, was rather interesting.
The assassin's skill was not bad. If he had been absolutely determined to kill Wu Chaoyang, he shouldn't have grabbed Wu Chaoyang's collar with his left hand.
This action alone had delayed him by at least two seconds, giving Wu Chaoyang a chance to react.
If he truly intended to kill, a direct stab to the carotid artery, catching everyone off guard and leaving no time for reaction, would have certainly killed Wu Chaoyang.
Of course, this didn't mean the assassination was staged, as Wu Chaoyang was genuinely injured.
It was also possible that the assassin intended to give Wu Chaoyang a warning.
Chen Fan even considered the possibility that it might have been staged for his benefit.
Regardless, this assassin was somewhat valuable, and he intended to capture him and interrogate him thoroughly.
Based on his experience and various deductions, after turning a few corners, Chen Fan spotted a figure walking briskly ahead.
With just a glance, Chen Fan smiled.
It was the assassin, but he had changed his disguise, shed the waiter's uniform, removed his mask, and even altered his hairstyle.
However, as the Lord of the Night, Chen Fan's eyesight was exceptionally keen; he could recognize the assassin from his physique and gait.
The assassin, having undergone professional training, had a much steadier and faster gait than ordinary people. The way he kept an eye on his rear, maintaining a poised stance, held no secrets for Chen Fan.
He started to pursue.
The assassin immediately quickened his pace.
Chen Fan broke into a full sprint, catching up.
The assassin looked back, his expression changed, and he stopped hiding, sprinting at his fastest speed towards the end of the street.
But his speed was insignificant in Chen Fan's eyes.
As the distance between them rapidly closed, Chen Fan suddenly stopped and crouched.
His pupils constricted.
Silently, the assassin fell backward, collapsing onto the ground, motionless.
A blood hole in his forehead was clearly visible to Chen Fan.
Chen Fan followed the street with his gaze, looking across to the opposite side.
His vision swept over a large road, locking onto a tall building.
The distance was too great for him to see clearly and determine the exact origin of the bullet.
His expression turned grim.
To use a sniper to eliminate this assassin was simply too ruthless.
