Second Senior Brother

Chapter 458 Finally Taken the Bait

Yu Fuguo stood by, slightly stunned.

Honestly, he felt a degree of fear towards Yu Shao, not just because he was his superior, but because of his formidable intelligence and calculating nature.

Yet now, someone as cunning as Yu Shao had actually lost to Chen Fan, a man who seemed like a nouveau riche?

And the stakes were not small; Yu Shao had only cashed in his chips once, but it was still ten million.

Ten million was a substantial sum. Those who claimed it wasn't much were usually not truly wealthy, but rather the impoverished who lacked any concept of money's value.

“Did you see the hole cards?”

It was Yu Shao who reacted quickly. Having lost, he felt a sense of sudden enlightenment. He stood up and smiled, asking Chen Fan.

“Of course. Did you really think I was an idiot, just throwing money around? How else would I win?” Chen Fan said calmly.

Yu Shao nodded. “Your previous demeanor deceived me.”

If Chen Fan hadn’t acted so ostentatiously before, as if money were nothing, he wouldn’t have formed a fixed impression of Chen Fan in his mind, believing that Chen Fan’s all-in bets were just mindless extravagance.

Of course, judging by the outcome, he still likely would have gone all-in in the end.

It had to be said, Chen Fan’s performance was highly deceptive.

This made him reassess Chen Fan’s character, forming a different impression.

“Let’s introduce ourselves. My name is Yang Shaoyu. May I ask your name?”

With his mindset adjusted, Yu Shao felt a measure of admiration for Chen Fan and extended his hand.

“You play cards well. Not as well as me, but you’re passable at the same table!” Chen Fan didn’t refuse and shook his hand.

His tone, however, remained arrogant.

“Chen Zhuo!”

Yang Shaoyu was not offended and smiled, “It’s an honor to meet you, Mr. Chen. I hope to compete with you again!”

He didn’t intend to linger. As the saying goes, too much can be as bad as too little. If Chen Fan realized his approach was deliberate, it wouldn’t be pleasant.

With that, he waved and left.

Chen Fan picked up the million-chip stake and handed it to the dealer. After converting it to cash, he left with Yu Fuguo.

He hadn’t won much in this gamble, only a little over twenty million, which he didn’t dwell on.

For him, the key was that he had learned Yang Shaoyu’s identity. He was now almost certain that Yang Shaoyu was Yu Fuguo’s accomplice. He needed to follow this lead to uncover more, eventually finding the most crucial figure and understanding the secrets of the organization behind it all.

Yang Shaoyu’s position was undoubtedly higher than Yu Fuguo’s, but likely not high enough to know all the secrets of the organization.

“Brother Chen, what about us? Are you staying here, or shall we do something else?” Yu Fuguo asked.

“It’s getting late, we should head back!” Chen Fan shook his head.

“Ah, Brother Chen isn’t planning to rush home to his beloved, is he?”

Thinking of Xiang Jingzhu, who he had met posing as Chen Fan’s secretary, Yu Fuguo teased.

Chen Fan didn’t bother to deny it and said, “Let’s go.”

He walked towards the exit, and Yu Fuguo quickly followed.

Meanwhile, they had notified Gu Weidong to meet them downstairs.

Upon seeing Gu Weidong, his expression was somewhat unhappy.

“Brother Chen, I’ll give you a ride back!” Yu Fuguo said solicitously.

“No need. Let’s part ways here for today. We’ll talk another time!”

“Alright, safe travels, Brother Chen. Just let me know if you want to play anything, and I’ll arrange it perfectly.” Yu Fuguo said with a fawning smile, “If you need me to do anything, I’ll be there at your beck and call!”

Chen Fan waved, signaling Gu Weidong to drive, and they sped away from the Yun Jian Club.

After Chen Fan’s car disappeared at the intersection, a figure quietly appeared behind Yu Fuguo.

It was Yang Shaoyu.

“Yu Shao!” Yu Fuguo quickly greeted him.

Gazing in the direction Chen Fan had gone, Yang Shaoyu narrowed his eyes and said, “Hurry up. Build a good relationship with this Chen Zhuo, to the point where he considers you his best friend!”

“Yu Shao, this Chen Zhuo isn’t as simple as he seems, is he? He set a trap for you during the game,” Yu Fuguo said.

Yang Shaoyu sneered, “That’s normal. If he were someone who solely relied on his family background to become the general manager of the Longteng branch, he’d be of limited value!”

“As long as he wants to win and has a strong desire for victory, then he has a weakness, and controlling him won’t be difficult!”

“Yes!”

“I’ll report this person’s situation to the higher-ups. Someone will likely come down. You need to expedite your progress. But be careful not to be too hasty, as it might make him suspicious of your intentions!”

“Yes!” Yu Fuguo felt invigorated. He asked, “What about that ten-billion investment plan for Longteng?”

“Just focus on building a good relationship with him. If he intends to embezzle, he’ll naturally approach you,” Yang Shaoyu said. “He’s new to Kyoto and doesn’t know many people, making him the perfect candidate for us!”

In the car, Chen Fan asked leisurely, “Vice President Gu, you’ve been playing pool for two to three hours since we arrived. You didn’t come to find me. What were you doing inside? Don’t tell me you played billiards all night?”

Gu Weidong snorted at the question. “What else? Enjoying yourself like Mr. Chen, reluctant to leave?”

There was considerable resentment in his tone, which made Chen Fan pause.

“Why didn’t you look for me?” Chen Fan asked.

Gu Weidong said coldly, “Aren’t you afraid of disturbing your good time?”

Chen Fan chuckled at this and didn't take it to heart. He asked the question that concerned him: “While you were playing, did anyone probe you?”

“What do you mean?” Gu Weidong asked.

“Like, trying to get your detailed information, asking about the company’s specific situation, that sort of thing?” Chen Fan said.

Gu Weidong, while driving, recalled and grew a little uneasy. “Yes, the beautiful female player I was playing with talked a lot with me, asking all about my situation.”

“You told her everything, didn’t you?” Chen Fan asked.

Gu Weidong slammed on the brakes, stopping the car. He turned back and said, “I… I’m sorry, Mr. Chen, I didn’t think of it that way!”

Chen Fan waved his hand. “It’s a minor matter, no need to blame yourself. Bringing you here was for this purpose!”

Gu Weidong looked at Chen Fan with a changed gaze. “Mr. Chen, you mean Yu Fuguo deliberately approached you? With some ulterior motive?”

Chen Fan smiled faintly. “What motive could he have? It’s just that the headquarters allocated a billion dollars for us to invest in projects independently, and he got greedy.”

“Don’t worry about it. Just do as you normally would and handle the tasks I’ve assigned you.”

Gu Weidong fell silent.

He was now somewhat confused about Chen Fan’s situation.

He had initially thought Chen Fan was someone who had risen through connections, arrogant and reckless.

But now, he felt he might have misunderstood Chen Fan.

After all, how many men who entered a den of extravagance like the Yun Jian Club could resist the temptation of those beautiful women?

Chen Fan, regardless of what Gu Weidong was thinking, narrowed his eyes and began to ponder.

Yang Shaoyu and Yu Fuguo didn't communicate in front of him, but it was almost certain they were connected.

And judging by the probing and coaxing Gu Weidong experienced, this Yun Jian Club might also be an industry controlled by the hidden forces.

After all, using clubs to win over, corrupt, and control people was clearly the most common and effective method.

Perhaps he needed to visit the Yun Jian Club a few more times.
