Chapter 401: Chapter 401: Have They Found Him?
As Evelyn Clayton had expected, with Jim Young’s reassurance, the workers calmed down significantly.
Although there were still a few who were skeptical and took severance pay to prepare to leave, those few didn’t pose any major issue.
After pacifying the workers, Evelyn Clayton called Yara Reagan to help Rhys Jacobs start counting the Vanreid workers going to Ly.
They were busy until the evening. Evelyn Clayton called Old Wang, asking him to stay with Rhys Jacobs to arrange for the Vanreid workers to go to Ly.
Evelyn Clayton and Yara Reagan finally breathed a sigh of relief.
On the drive back, Yara Reagan still wore a stern face.
Evelyn Clayton chuckled, "Are you still mad at me?"
Yara Reagan glanced at her, awkwardly saying, "Not really. I just didn’t expect you to handle it so well."
Evelyn Clayton snorted, "What, you don’t believe in my ability or trust my methods?"
"I’m just afraid Jim Young might turn against us later." Yara Reagan was a bit frustrated, freeing a hand from the steering wheel to rub her hair, "And what if we can’t find John Jacobs?"
"We’ll definitely find him, unless he’s dead." Evelyn Clayton’s face turned a little frosty, "And regardless of whether we find him or not, I’ll secure Vanreid."
After a tiring day, Yara Reagan simply followed Evelyn Clayton home. The two were too exhausted to eat, collapsing on the couch in a daze.
Iris Lockwood suddenly called.
"I heard the original owner of the factory you’re acquiring ran away?" Iris Lockwood exclaimed, "Did you find him?"
Yara Reagan weakly complained, "Your news is really up to date."
Iris Lockwood was annoyed, "I asked Rhys Jacobs. Who told you two not to hang out with me for so long? Are you both home now? I’m coming over with some goodies."
Evelyn Clayton, eyes closed, resting, casually said, "Since when did Iris Lockwood and Rhys Jacobs have such a good relationship?"
"Who knows."
Chatting idly back and forth, just as both were about to fall asleep, Iris Lockwood hurried over.
As usual, she brought a pile of cooked dishes and snacks, along with three cups of bubble tea. She shouted as she entered, "Fell asleep? Don’t! Eat something first before sleeping!"
Yara Reagan, whose stomach had been growling, summoned the last bit of energy to stand up, ravenously going through the large bags of snacks Iris Lockwood brought.
Evelyn Clayton still leaned on the couch, eyes closed, looking as if she were asleep.
Iris Lockwood approached carefully, but Evelyn Clayton suddenly opened her eyes.
"You scared me!" Iris Lockwood murmured, handing the bubble tea with a straw to Evelyn Clayton, "Is the issue with the factory resolved?"
Evelyn Clayton took a sip, her fatigue not entirely dispelled, "Almost, are you done with your work?"
Iris Lockwood paused, vaguely, "Yes, I’m done."
Sensing something was off, Evelyn Clayton furrowed her brows slightly, "What’s wrong?"
It was only then that she noticed Iris Lockwood looked unusually plain today.
Since becoming a model and making a stunning appearance at the Xiaomeng show, Iris Lockwood’s career had been doing quite well. She loved dressing up, always looking glamorous wherever she went.
But today, Iris Lockwood wore no makeup, didn’t accessorize her outfit, just a simple white shirt and jeans—she looked uncharacteristically simple.
Yara Reagan noticed it too, frowning, "What, did your company abandon you?"
Iris Lockwood’s expression changed slightly, she lowered her eyes and didn’t speak.
Evelyn Clayton’s sleepiness vanished, and she stared intently at Iris Lockwood, "What happened? Speak."
Iris Lockwood looked up again, and the redness in her eyes was evident.
"My dad wants me to get back together with Matthew Sullivan. I refused, and then my mom made a scene at my company, and then... now, I’ve been temporarily suspended from all work."
