Chapter 383: Chapter 383: Not Fond of Public Appearances

The two chatted intermittently, but soon, the security captain of the Ford Family came over quickly and whispered something in Franklin Ford’s ear.

Franklin listened, his smile unchanged, but his eyes deepened a bit.

"Evelyn, I need to excuse myself for a moment."

With that, Franklin left with the security captain.

Evelyn Clayton looked at his back, puzzled, watching Franklin stride towards the front door.

Not long after, Yara Reagan hurried back.

Evelyn was about to say something to her when Yara said excitedly, almost ominously, "Guess what I just heard from the Ford Family’s servants?"

"What?" Evelyn was completely baffled.

"Harrison Grant and James Grant are coming over." Yara’s voice lowered even more, "They should be just at the door now."

Evelyn felt her heart sink slightly.

She looked towards the front door.

Sure enough, ten minutes later, Franklin, Harrison Grant, and James Grant entered the garden together, with Lynn Yates following shortly behind them.

Their appearance drew the eyes of many guests in the garden, including Evelyn and Yara, of course.

Evelyn fixed her gaze on James Grant for a moment, then looked away, taking a glass of yellow wine from a waiter and downing it in one gulp.

The burning liquid slid down her throat, making Evelyn’s eyes slightly red.

"Evelyn, drink slower." Yara was worried beside her, leaning in to speak softly, "I remember, Violet Ford didn’t say she was inviting them—"

Evelyn spoke slowly, word by word, in a calm tone, "With the Grant Family’s status, who needs any invitation?"

Not far away, Violet soon went to greet Harrison and the others, her slight smile perfectly controlled.

Unlike Evelyn, who deliberately averted her gaze, Yara couldn’t help but keep watching them.

Just as Evelyn was about to leave, Yara suddenly nudged her arm.

"Violet and Harrison are looking over! They seem to be looking at you!!" Yara’s voice was a bit excited, but mostly anxious.

Evelyn’s expression slightly stiffened.

Soon, a waiter came running to Evelyn’s side.

The waiter spoke respectfully, "Miss Clayton, our young lady invites you over to greet Mr. Grant."

Evelyn’s hand tightened at her side, slowly relaxing after a while.

"Okay, I’ll be there soon." Evelyn replied.

Yara tried to comfort her, "Don’t worry, Evelyn, with so many people around, and with Violet here, Harrison certainly won’t dare do anything."

This, Evelyn naturally knew.

She just didn’t want to see James and Harrison Grant.

Seeing Evelyn’s brows still tightly knit, Yara said, "Want me to help you get out of it later?"

"No, it’s okay."

Evelyn took a deep breath and walked steadily towards Violet and the others.

As she approached, she heard Violet saying with a cheerful smile to Harrison, "...Yes, a partner, Evelyn is a very capable young lady, so please do take good care of her, Mr. Grant. Ah, Evelyn, you’re here, come greet Mr. Grant."

Getting closer, Evelyn lifted her gaze to meet Harrison’s half-smiling eyes, nodded slightly, and said calmly, "Hello, Mr. Grant, it’s been a while."

"It has been some time, but I heard you’ve been seeing quite a bit of James lately." Harrison’s words were delivered with a smile, but they were not pleasant to hear.

Evelyn felt a slight tension in her heart, instinctively glancing at Violet.

But soon, Evelyn realized.

With what happened between her and James, how could Violet not know anything?

But seeing Violet’s calm and smiling demeanor, Evelyn’s unspeakable slight unease gradually turned into calmness.

Her brow moved slightly, and she smiled slightly, looking back at Harrison.

"Indeed, after all, Mr. Grant doesn’t show up much, if there’s anything, I can only find Director Grant."
