Chapter 458: Chapter 458: Thank You for Your Hard Work

"Director Ford?!"

Rhys Jacobs was the first to react and hurriedly opened the car door.

Without a word, Franklin Ford carried Evelyn Clayton horizontally into the car.

Seeing this, Yara Reagan was momentarily lost in thought, then quickly got into the car at Rhys’s urging.

Inside the car, it was utterly silent; even the sound of the rain outside seemed to have faded away. Only then did Evelyn Clayton come back to her senses.

Through the window, Franklin Ford stood in the rain, his profile facing the car door, his eyes coldly watching the crowd.

Soon, two black sedans came from the direction where Franklin had arrived, and several Fords’ family bodyguards got out, blocking the crowd.

The police also arrived quickly.

"Evelyn, are you okay?" Yara Reagan said, slightly out of breath, seeing Evelyn Clayton staring blankly, thinking she was frightened.

Evelyn Clayton slowly wiped the rain off her face and said dazedly, "I’m fine."

The Fords’ family bodyguards dispersed the crowd, and Franklin Ford and Rhys Jacobs quickly returned to the car.

Both were drenched. Rhys Jacobs got into the driver’s seat and started the car without a word, ready to drive away.

Sitting in the front passenger seat, Yara Reagan saw Franklin Ford dripping with water and quickly took tissues from the front seat to hand to him.

Franklin Ford took them without a word, his movements systematic, almost drenched but showing no sign of disarray.

Yara Reagan silently handed him tissues, then opened another pack to wipe Rhys dry.

The car was so quiet that even the sound of breathing was very distinct. Evelyn Clayton felt inexplicably embarrassed but knew it was impossible to remain silent forever.

She cleared her throat softly and said in a low voice, "Director Ford, why did you suddenly come over? Thank you for your trouble today."

"I was passing by and saw it." Franklin Ford’s explanation was perfunctory, but no one was in the mood to dwell on it. "Something happened to Gem, I saw it. The elder sister was busy with other matters. I went to Gem but didn’t see any of you; I didn’t expect you to be here."

Evelyn Clayton forced a slight smile, "Sorry to have worried you and Violet. We didn’t handle things well and had to trouble you to come help us."

"We are partners, it’s only right." Franklin Ford’s gentle gaze lingered on Evelyn Clayton for a long time before moving away.

Evelyn Clayton didn’t respond further. Everyone in the car remained utterly silent.

Yara Reagan gazed somewhat vacantly at the rain outside. Suddenly thinking of something, she looked at everyone with a faint smile, "Evelyn, this is near your house. Why not let Director Ford and Rhys go to your place to tidy up? They’re all wet, and you can rest there too."

Evelyn Clayton came back to her senses, "Okay, then Rhys, drive to my place."

Rhys acknowledged and turned the steering wheel.

When they arrived at Evelyn Clayton’s house, the inexplicable tension finally dissipated a bit.

Franklin Ford’s assistant arrived with two sets of clothes.

While Rhys and Franklin went to change clothes, Evelyn Clayton and Yara Reagan sat in the living room.

Evelyn Clayton turned her gaze to Yara Reagan, who silently got up, walked to the balcony, and took out a pack of cigarettes from her bag, lighting one up.

A strange feeling crossed her heart, and after a while, Evelyn Clayton also stood up and walked towards her.

"Give me one too," Evelyn Clayton said with a slight smile. "Today has been quite the day."

Yara Reagan smiled but said nothing, handing Evelyn Clayton a cigarette and then lighting it for her.

The smoke blended into the rain, bringing a damp smell of tobacco and moisture, not pleasant but strangely clearing one’s mind.

Evelyn Clayton squinted slightly and, on impulse, spoke.

"Yara, thank you for your hard work."
