Chapter 270: Why Did You Suddenly Come to See Me

Chapter 270: Chapter 270: Why Did You Suddenly Come to See Me

Evelyn Clayton watched the increasingly unfamiliar street scenes, her eyebrows slightly furrowed, before finally speaking.

"Where are you taking me?"

This wasn’t the way back to the studio.

Hearing the distant tone in Evelyn’s voice, James Grant’s eyes darkened: "To the hospital."

Earlier, when Matthew Sullivan grabbed Evelyn’s arm, he not only bruised a large area on her, but the tip of a small knife accidentally scraped her skin when he was kicked away, leaving a long wound.

Evelyn glanced down.

The wound was about ten centimeters but very shallow, so shallow that Evelyn hadn’t noticed it at first.

It wasn’t until a bit of blood oozed out that she saw it.

It didn’t require a hospital visit at all.

She intended to refuse, but upon seeing James’s cold profile, she swallowed all her words.

Arriving at the clinic, the doctor took out disinfectant alcohol and gauze, ready to attend to Evelyn sitting on the bed.

But James unexpectedly took the medical supplies and personally applied the medicine to her.

Seeing this, the doctor turned to attend to other tasks.

The air was filled with the smell of disinfectant, making Evelyn very uneasy.

She didn’t know if it was because of the acrid smell of the medicine or the close proximity of the man in front of her.

In the cramped space, neither of them spoke first.

James’s movements were gentle, as if he was afraid of hurting her.

How long had it been since he had been this close to Evelyn?

Since their last unpleasant incident, Evelyn had been deliberately distancing herself from him.

His thoughts drifted far away.

Scenes from his acquaintance with Evelyn flashed before his eyes like a carousel.

Even James, who rarely showed his emotions, couldn’t help but have feelings flow into his eyes.

"You..."

James began, his voice unexpectedly raspy.

He placed the used gauze back on the table, his deep, profound eyes looking at Evelyn: "Do you have anything you want to say to me?"

In that moment, he wished so much that Evelyn could smile or tease him like usual.

Even if she were to get angry, it would be fine.

However, all James received was Evelyn’s utterly flat, emotionless two-word reply.

"No."

Evelyn turned her head away, not wanting to look at him.

James stood there silently for a long moment, then spoke again: "I’m going to marry Lynn Yates."

Marry?

Evelyn’s face turned pale, surprised, yet she forced herself not to show any sadness.

She merely kept a straight face and responded with an "Mm," signifying agreement.

"I have a meeting to attend later, so I won’t be able to drive you back to the studio; you’ll have to take a cab yourself."

At Evelyn’s reaction, a fleeting disappointment crossed James’s eyes.

His already dark eyes deepened further, becoming unreadable.

He turned and left without looking back.

Evelyn sat dazed on the hospital bed, feeling the warmth left by James by her wound.

By the time she took notice, tears had already unknowingly fallen down her face.

Even when she returned to the studio, Evelyn was somewhat absent-minded.

Yara Reagan found Evelyn to discuss a project but discovered she was quite distracted.

Upon closer look, there were faint tear stains on her cheeks.

Yara was startled and only then realized something was wrong, immediately asking her about it.

But Evelyn shook her head, indicating that she just needed some rest, and didn’t say much more.

Meanwhile,

James still carried an aura of coldness as he headed straight to Harrison Grant’s office.

"James? Why did you suddenly come to see me." Harrison was slightly surprised to see his son exuding a low-pressure aura and gestured for him to sit in the chair opposite his desk.
