Chapter 222: Chapter 222: The Cunning Old Fox
The employees behind were gossiping. Evelyn Clayton was wearing a women’s blouse, loosely draped around her, exuding tenderness and allure.
With her eyes slightly downcast, she twirled a coffee cup in her hand, having made a decision.
Harrison Grant’s office.
Evelyn Clayton walked to the door and quietly peered inside. Harrison was focused on handling documents.
She raised her hand and knocked on the door.
"Uncle Grant."
Upon seeing her, Harrison immediately stopped his work, his eyes gentle.
"Evelyn’s here, come in and sit down."
Evelyn walked in and sat on the chair in front of the desk.
She casually glanced around and then spoke as if unintentionally: "Uncle Grant, I heard James Grant is already preparing for his marriage with the Yates Family."
Upon hearing this, Harrison’s expression grew increasingly joyful.
"Is that so? It seems that the Grant Family is about to have a happy occasion!"
After speaking, it seemed as if he thought of something, his brows showing some hesitation: "Evelyn, about the recent removal of Matthew Sullivan’s position, it wasn’t meant to target him. We just want him to gain some more experience. So, don’t worry, Marcus is still my son. After you marry him, I will never treat you two unfairly."
Gain experience?
Evelyn couldn’t help but scoff inwardly.
Truly an old fox in the business world, even seizing power is spoken about so righteously.
His goal is clearly to groom Jasper Grant to inherit the position.
"Uncle Grant, Matthew Sullivan is dedicated and responsible. Leaving him idle like this might not serve the purpose of training him. Perhaps he should handle some small projects to gain some practice."
Small projects are plentiful, and Harrison certainly wouldn’t mind.
Immediately, he was about to bring out a small company project he had on hand.
"This is a collaboration proposal with The Preston Group. You can give it to him to try."
Evelyn almost laughed out loud.
The Preston Group is notorious for being difficult and offering low prices.
Harrison wasn’t training Matthew Sullivan at all; he was clearly passing the buck!
"Uncle Grant, didn’t you mention there was a project with The Ford Family that hasn’t been picked up yet? Perhaps Matthew Sullivan could handle it."
Her slender fingers tapped the table lightly, each word tinged with subtle ambition.
Harrison was momentarily stunned, his eyes flashing with doubt and dissatisfaction.
The Ford Group is the company of Summer Monroe’s late husband and is a leading entity in the business world, capable of rivaling the Grant Group.
She was asking for such a significant project; wasn’t she essentially being handed a lucrative opportunity?
Harrison, of course, was unwilling.
Sensing Harrison’s displeasure, Evelyn curled her lips into a smile.
"Uncle Grant, didn’t you just say you wouldn’t treat us unfairly?"
Upon hearing this, Harrison’s face momentarily appeared awkward.
Evelyn was sharp-tongued, and Harrison couldn’t refuse, begrudgingly agreeing with a slightly stiffened expression.
"Fine, then the contract with The Ford Family will be managed by you. As for Marcus, let him assist you, train, and learn properly."
Seeing him finally relent, Evelyn agreed gracefully.
"Alright, thank you, Uncle Grant. We definitely won’t let you down."
Finishing her words, she stood up and left.
A faint smile on her face vanished as she glanced back momentarily.
Once she had the contract in hand, Evelyn received a call from The Ford Family, requesting to meet with the new person in charge to discuss the collaboration.
Evelyn verbally agreed, looking at the call interface, unable to suppress a mocking smile.
Did Harrison still think he could use The Ford Family to put pressure on her?
Did he really think she was just an easy target, pliable as clay? How naive.
Evelyn drove directly to meet with The Ford Family’s representative.
The meeting spot was set at a frequently visited café.
She waited for a while, and in her line of sight, a familiar figure appeared at the entrance.
