Chapter 219: Chapter 219: Get Someone Else
Evelyn Clayton couldn’t be bothered with these gossiping tongues, holding her head high, she strode forward.
But just at the entrance of Matthew Sullivan’s office, she overheard angry cursing —
"You can’t even handle this little thing! What else can you do?! People have complained about you right in front of me, you’re more of a hindrance than a help!"
Evelyn paused for a moment, leaned against the door to take a look.
Inside, Harrison Grant was angrily pointing at Matthew Sullivan’s nose, scolding.
Matthew, on the other hand, kept his head down, his body tense, without uttering a word.
"Look at you! Is there anything about you that matches up to Jasper and James! You still want a share in the Grant Family? At this rate, you won’t even get a scrap!"
Matthew restrained himself with great effort, his usual arrogance was completely suppressed, not displaying the least bit.
Behind the door, Evelyn half-leaned on the edge, listening to the commotion inside.
Unaware, a figure quietly approached from behind.
"Eavesdropping?"
A warm breath suddenly whispered by her ear, sending a tingling sensation down her neck.
She trembled all over, the voice was familiar beyond description.
Evelyn straightened up, stepping to the side, coldly eyeing James Grant behind her: "You need something?"
Her tone was incredibly icy, and he could hear it.
A hint of gloom flickered in the man’s eyes, his hands casually in his pockets, as his gaze swept inside the office.
"Didn’t anyone ever teach you that eavesdropping isn’t a good habit?"
"No one did, actually." Evelyn narrowed her eyes and stared at him: "And no one taught you to mind your own business either, did they?"
"They didn’t." He mimicked her tone on purpose, tilting his chin up, retorting lightly.
Evelyn let out a cold snort, and strode right inside.
"Director Grant, since Matthew Sullivan can’t handle it, why not replace him?"
Both Matthew and Harrison were momentarily stunned.
Harrison had been vexed over who could bring up this topic, and now it was his wish fulfilled, yet he still put on a sullen face.
"Who else could we replace him with? A good opportunity handed to him, and he’s just a letdown."
"The Grant Family certainly has more capable people than just him, right?"
As she said this, Evelyn glanced, intentionally or not, towards James Grant behind her.
Noticing her gaze, Harrison scrutinized James with a grim face but said nothing.
At this moment, a clear male voice suddenly sounded from outside the door: "What’s wrong, Dad?"
It was Jasper Grant.
Now, Harrison turned his attention to Jasper.
After a brief contemplation, Harrison pointed at him, immediately making a decision.
"Let Jasper handle the Jacobs Family project, let him get some good experience, and also show Matthew how it’s done!"
After a round of scathing humiliation, Matthew’s face was ashen.
He gritted his teeth hard, unable to retort a single word.
"Dad, isn’t this a bit inappropriate? I’m not very familiar with this; Matthew Sullivan has already done half of it... If it doesn’t work, why not let my elder brother handle it? He can definitely do it."
Everyone’s gaze shifted to the doorway.
James slightly tilted his head, standing lazily.
His disordered black bangs half-covered his eyes, yet his presence was so imposing that nobody dared to come close.
"Don’t look at me, I’m enjoying the leisure."
He leaned back against the wall, saying casually and lazily.
Evelyn glanced at him, unable to stop herself from rolling her eyes.
Harrison, even more enraged, chastised: "All of you, not a single one is reliable! If the Grant Family were handed over to you, it would be utterly ruined!"
Seeing that he was genuinely angry, Jasper hurried over to support him.
