Chapter 214: Chapter 214: What Are You Doing
She realized something and pretended her throat was not right, coughing a few times.
"I, I only care about Harrison Grant. Once Harrison Grant is dealt with, everything will be fine."
James Grant stared at her, letting out a laugh that was neither too long nor too short, his eyes deep and inscrutable, making it impossible to see what he was thinking.
"If Harrison Grant asks you to draw blood again, don’t go."
Evelyn Clayton averted her gaze, "Okay."
After speaking, she stood up, deliberately bypassing him.
As she walked to the door, her steps slowed, pausing for a moment.
Only for a few seconds, then she stepped out.
——
The Jacobs Family project was still rushing progress, and Matthew Sullivan took every opportunity under the guise of work to follow Evelyn Clayton around, trying to get closer to her.
"Evelyn, here’s the data sheet from the Jacobs Family, take a look."
Matthew Sullivan handed the document over. Evelyn Clayton only glanced at it briefly, casually taking a pen and making corrections on several data points.
One place was actually correct, but she intentionally marked it wrong and handed it back to Matthew Sullivan.
Matthew Sullivan trusted her immensely, not even glancing at the document, his eyes fully on her, noticing her weary and pale complexion and expressing his concern.
"Evelyn, do you want to take a break? You work so hard, it must be taking a toll on your body. Did you take the supplements I bought for you?"
As he spoke, he reached out, intending to feel her forehead.
Evelyn Clayton wanted to back away, but out of the corner of her eye, she inadvertently noticed a familiar silhouette passing by the door.
She was momentarily stunned, and Matthew Sullivan’s hand was already on her forehead.
The warmth from his palm spread, and Evelyn Clayton did not move away, lowering her gaze, hiding her expression from him.
Not far away, James Grant, who had seen the close moment between Evelyn Clayton and Matthew Sullivan, felt a sudden chill surrounding him.
He narrowed his eyes dangerously, his jaw tightening.
Inside, Evelyn Clayton felt the gaze from behind, stiffening her spine, not daring to move.
A notification popped up on the phone on the table, drawing Matthew Sullivan’s attention.
She quickly grabbed the phone towards herself, casually saying, "Work message."
Matthew Sullivan didn’t mind, and Evelyn Clayton turned slightly, opening the message.
Seeing James Grant’s name, her heart skipped a beat unconsciously.
"Tell him to get lost, or I’ll break his hand."
Even though James Grant’s message was cold text, his nearly insane anger was tangible across the distance.
She pressed her lips together, swallowed, and typed a few words to send back: "You’re overthinking."
Then she turned off her phone and its sound, putting it further away, not caring if James Grant was still there behind her.
Evelyn Clayton sat on the sofa, unable to muster any interest in anything.
Fatigue enveloped her, her head filled with thoughts of her father’s car accident.
She raised her hand to rub her brow, looking very tired.
"Matthew Sullivan, I’m tired, I’ll leave first. You handle the rest."
"Alright, Evelyn, go and rest. Don’t wear yourself out."
Matthew Sullivan was extremely concerned, taking over all her work and seeing her out.
Evelyn Clayton walked towards the office, but the short distance felt unusually long.
Her high heels felt extraordinarily heavy, making a series of dull thuds on the floor.
She reached for the door handle, but a strong force suddenly grabbed her wrist, pulling her inside forcefully.
Evelyn Clayton gasped, unable to resist, as a figure pinned her against the wall.
"What are you doing?!"
She looked up and saw James Grant’s clouded face.
