Chapter 334: Chapter 334: Are You Okay?
Her tone was casual, but the other two in the room could sense the regret in it.
Yara Reagan let out a silent breath and pretended to be relaxed as she said, "Anyway, it’s all in the past now! Although, although we’re not particularly close friends, I believe that you’ll definitely meet a man who loves you and treats you well in the future!"
Iris Lockwood glanced at Yara, her eyes glistening with a trace of blush and tears. She quickly looked away, seemingly embarrassed.
"Who needs your fake kindness..."
She spoke with diminishing confidence, her voice carrying a slight tremor.
Evelyn Clayton looked at Iris, sighing gently in her heart.
Even though Iris had done quite a few thoughtless things with Matthew Sullivan back then, at one point viewing Evelyn as a rival, Evelyn knew that Iris genuinely loved Matthew at the time.
"It’s in the past; the road ahead will only get better." Evelyn handed a tissue to Iris, teasing her, "Why are you still crying? Can’t get over Matthew?"
Iris took the tissue awkwardly and spat lightly, "Pfft, not at all. I just feel it wasn’t worth it for myself."
As she spoke, she cast another glance at Evelyn, the guilt in her eyes obvious.
"And for you... it wasn’t worth it too."
Evelyn was stunned for a moment, her heart inexplicably aching a little.
She silently patted Iris’s hand and then straightened up, "Now that we know who’s behind it, it’s time to take action. We can’t just keep being passive."
Iris wiped away her tears and perked up, "I can have someone continue to investigate. Once we find solid evidence, we can sue Matthew Sullivan for defamation!"
"No way." Evelyn shook her head, "Your career is on the rise right now. If Matthew finds out you’re investigating him, who knows what he’ll do to get back at you. It would be bad for your career; we’d end up losing on both fronts."
Iris bit her lip, wanting to argue, but after thinking it through, she realized it was true.
Her looks weren’t considered top-tier in the modeling world; it was just good luck, plus that show by Xiaomeng using Evelyn’s clothes that made her a hit, giving her the current commercial value.
Going against Matthew Sullivan at this point wouldn’t be a wise choice.
Yara clearly agreed with Evelyn, pondering for a moment, she said, "Justin Ford can help with this. Iris has almost got a handle on Matthew Sullivan’s weakness; Franklin Ford just needs to collect the evidence."
Evelyn nodded, "I’ll take care of this. Iris, just focus on your work for now, don’t worry about me."
After seeing Iris off, Yara uncharacteristically didn’t make any more remarks about her but instead sighed lightly, "I used to think Iris was just a fair-weather friend, waving the white flag when she realized she couldn’t compete with you. But now I see, aside from her sharp tongue, she’s actually quite nice."
Evelyn couldn’t help but laugh, her fair fingertips lightly flicking Yara’s forehead, "Aren’t you also a sharp tongue?"
Yara retorted indignantly, "How am I? What, you like Iris now, forgotten about me, haven’t you?"
"How could I?" Evelyn said, both amused and exasperated, "I just hope that next time we meet, you won’t be so hard on her."
Yara huffed lightly, "Fine, I won’t argue with you. By the way, there’s a collaboration in a couple of days, and they might need you to handle it personally. They specifically asked for a meeting with the general manager. I took the liberty of agreeing on your behalf; will that be okay with you?"
