Chapter 322: Chapter 322: Sent to the Wrong Person
Rainy days make one easily drowsy, and Evelyn Clayton sat at the dining table eating, the meal still from the private little restaurant Franklin Ford had recommended, looking great in terms of color, taste, and aroma.
However, despite the delicious food in front of her, Evelyn’s head kept nodding off from sleepiness.
It’s been two days since she donated blood, and her depletion hadn’t recovered yet, nor had her previous exhaustion faded away. She wished she could sleep sixteen hours a day.
Putting down her chopsticks, Evelyn decided not to make things harder on herself anymore, planning to go back to sleep for a while first.
Remembering that Yara Reagan mentioned coming over to keep her company earlier that morning, she checked the time and saw it was only ten minutes until Yara’s arrival. Evelyn went to open the door and left it ajar, then sent Yara a groggy message, telling her to just come in directly.
Throwing aside her phone, Evelyn fell asleep.
In a haze between dreams, she seemed to see a figure entering the door. Evelyn assumed it was Yara, turned over, and mumbled, "There’s food on the table, I barely touched it. If you’re hungry, just help yourself."
But before long, that figure seemed to get closer, holding Evelyn’s arm, reaching to touch her forehead.
Evelyn didn’t sense anything strange and let "Yara" fumble around, her voice growing increasingly muddled, "No fever, don’t worry... Aren’t you hungry?"
After a long pause, the person spoke.
A deep, slightly hoarse man’s voice: "I’m not hungry."
Evelyn instantly awoke.
"James Grant?!" Evelyn sat up, her face turning dark with a mix of speechlessness and embarrassment, "How did you get here? I mean, how did you get in?"
James frowned, looking rather innocent: "Didn’t you message me saying the door wasn’t locked and to come in directly?"
Evelyn was dumbfounded and took out her phone, looking utterly shocked.
The message had gone to James Grant.
And there was an unread message from Yara in her chat list.
Yara: Damn, traffic’s a mess because of the rain, I’ll be late, babe. Bringing you some good food.
Evelyn was left speechless.
She looked at James’s profile picture, then at Yara’s, only to realize that both were dark blue-themed and looked quite similar at first glance.
"...I sent it to the wrong person, it was originally for Yara." Evelyn wanted to avoid further misunderstanding.
James’s sharp eyes darkened. Evelyn felt he looked a bit disappointed, though she wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination.
Perhaps it was because he was damp from the rain?
The words to ask him to leave were on the tip of Evelyn’s tongue, but she couldn’t bring herself to speak them.
"You... You don’t look well," James’s voice grew deeper, "Is it because of excessive blood loss?"
He almost pointed it out, and Evelyn’s heart skipped a beat.
Although Evelyn knew that, sooner or later, James would find out about her blood donation to Summer Monroe because of Heather Donovan’s connection with Harrison Grant, this secret wouldn’t last long.
But she didn’t want James to know the reason behind it.
No matter how much Evelyn hated to admit it, she agreed to Heather’s request because she didn’t want James to get hurt.
Evelyn stayed silent, but James wouldn’t let it go: "What’s the real reason..."
"I’m feeling really unwell." Evelyn’s mouth and eyes drooped as she furrowed her brow, "Do you really have to ask now?"
She made a show of hugging her bedding and laying down on the soft bed, her voice muffled, "Since you’re here, could you pour me some water? I’m so tired."
James’s heart felt both sour and tender.
He really couldn’t deal with this person.
Heading to the kitchen, James pressed the button on the water dispenser, looking around for something warm to drink, when suddenly he heard the door lock being turned.
"Evelyn dear, I told you to leave the door open for me. I’ve got too much stuff to open it myself, come help me out quickly!"
