Chapter 1147: Chapter 1138 New Task (6)
Xia Siyu didn’t really mind; the key was that everything was either variety shows or advertisements. She asked, “Didn’t you say the new company has plenty of scripts? How come I haven’t seen any for me?”
Qin Baizhou chuckled, “They’re all TV series, would you perform in them?”
Xia Siyu was taken aback. She had been in the industry for years and had never acted in a TV series.
Although she, like Bo Yan, adhered to the principle of “better have none than settle for less,” and there was indeed a barrier between filming movies and TV dramas, many so-called “noble” movie stars feel out of place when they descend to TV shows.
First, the filming pace of TV dramas and movies is different. Movies require you to cry in a second and have subtle expressions a few seconds later. But TV dramas aren’t the same; they can give you a dozen seconds or even minutes to build up emotions. Many who are used to making films cannot accept the slow pace of TV series.
Second, movies are painstakingly crafted, to the point where spending a day on a single shot to perfect it is common. For “Storm,” Xia Siyu had to dance for three or four hours to get a shot right, not to mention the one-take scenes. But TV series don’t have this craftsmanship; as long as the director sees it’s decent, they’ll let it pass and won’t nitpick on each detail. In this situation, it relies entirely on the artist’s own control.
In recent years, many movie stars have transitioned to TV, primarily because of the booming TV drama market. After all, no one says no to real money.
However, when movie stars make such transitions, they have significant bargaining power and tend to favor so-called “big productions,” which focus more on wages rather than the script and production quality. Moreover, due to the large investment, there’s less room for innovation in themes, often going for large IPs or more conservative stories. By the time these are filmed and released, the market could have lost interest.
Xia Siyu tilted her head and thought, “If there’s a good script, then it’s not impossible.”
She didn’t really have a clear concept of films and TV series; her previous company had set a high-end and classy path for her, having her act in films for her first three years after debut. At Huixing, they also wanted to establish her brand without switching routes. Her film and TV resources didn’t come from Huixing; she brought them herself. She had previously acted in films, so naturally, her resources were film-related.
Moreover, film stars do carry a certain prestige, especially when taking high-end endorsements; they have an edge during hard ad shoots.
For someone like Xia Siyu, her works prioritize quality over quantity. Movie stars are genuinely different from TV actors; they don’t need that much exposure, nor as many variety shows, maintaining a sense of mystery, hiding behind their roles outside of movies, like a fog. The biggest fear is that the audience and market will typecast her. For instance, some excellent actors, after doing a comedic variety show, turn to movies, and no matter how emotionally they cry, the audience just wants to laugh.
Qin Baizhou nodded, “Alright, in that case, if appropriate scripts and productions come up in the future, I’ll try my best to fight for them for you. But with your current status, you should at least take on the biggest SS+ Level projects from the platform. That’s how Shang Feifei does it, and we can’t fall behind her.”
Shang Feifei came from a TV series background. She wasn’t that particular; although she’s leaned towards films in recent years, she’ll still accept good scripts for TV dramas.
