Chapter 350: Chapter 216: Leading by Example
"Monthly subscription?" Boss Ge was slightly taken aback when he heard Zhang Yang mention it.
It’s no wonder he reacted like that; the term "monthly subscription" is something quite outdated in Boss Ge’s memory.
A couple of years ago, when competitive events were frequent, Old Ge’s Practice Pole Pond had many clients, and there was the concept of a monthly subscription back then.
Now, most of those anglers from W City are either fishing in private pits or chasing competitions. Only a few maintain their practice habits.
Unless Li Yuan Fishing Ground organizes a competition, there’s usually no large group of anglers practicing here regularly.
With fewer people coming to practice, there’s no reason to offer a monthly subscription, as most just pay thirty bucks on weekends to fish during suitable weather. Luckily, Boss Ge has other businesses; otherwise, he’d have starved long ago just relying on this practice pond.
"Yeah? Monthly subscription! How much for unlimited access in thirty-one days, a month?" Zhang Yang grinned broadly, his tone sincere, not as if he was joking.
"To be honest, it’s been a while since anyone got a monthly card. If you’re serious, three hundred per person, five hundred for two! Fish anytime except late at night!" Boss Ge directly gave a fairly favorable offer.
"Alright! Then sign me up for a month!" Zhang Yang didn’t hesitate, promptly took out a wad of cash from his pocket, and counted five red notes to hand to Boss Ge.
"You planning for a long haul? Training for competition?" Boss Ge took the money, counted it, and asked thoughtfully.
"Mainly practicing, let’s train for a while and see! I don’t have much time for now, it’s Xiao Meng and Liu Zi doing the training!" Zhang Yang pointed to the duo already setting up on the south bank.
"Alright, got it, monthly starts tomorrow! I’ll give them each a fishing card later!"
"Great, you get busy, I’m heading over to take a look!"
...
After paying for the monthly subscription, Zhang Yang strolled towards the south bank.
Meng Fan and Liu Zi were at the No. 1 small crucian carp pit, casually chatting while adjusting the bobbers, not knowing yet what Zhang Yang would teach them today.
"Got your monthly subscriptions sorted, starting tomorrow, for a month, five hundred for both! Don’t forget to get your cards from Boss Ge tomorrow!" Zhang Yang reminded them.
"Huh? Monthly subscription? Staying here that long?" Meng Fan was a bit surprised at the news, thinking Zhang Yang was just taking them here on a whim to enjoy catching some small crucian carp.
Zhang Yang shrugged, retorting, "A month feels long? It’s just that the distance is inconvenient; if it was convenient, training you till year’s end might still leave you unprepared for competition!
Quit stalling, class is on!
Today, I’ll formally talk about choosing bobbers for different fishing conditions! Get your bobber boxes out, this is valuable info you must remember every word of!"
Instead of fishing for small crucian carp as expected, Zhang Yang unexpectedly started talking about his personal insights on bobbers.
At Zhang Yang’s urging, Meng Fan and Liu Zi opened their bobber boxes.
"Bobbers are the angler’s eyes, everyone has heard this, but it only explains the most basic understanding of bobbers.
In reality, the role of the bobber in fishing is far beyond just signalling; striking on seeing a bobber move is its simplest application. Its essence is more complex.
To be precise, the bobber is the soul of the whole rig; differences in bobber shape, balance, and weight have a crucial impact on the fishing conditions!
Many times, even in formal competitions, a single mistake of choosing the wrong bobber type can prevent you from winning, no matter how well you perform elsewhere!
Currently popular bobbers can be broadly categorized by shape into several types.
The first type is the short-leg, long-body, short-tail bobber! This is an older style, with a long body and low balance point.
In normal fishing conditions, it flips over quickly in water, allowing rapid descent to the bottom.
A representative example is the slim long-body type, excellent for quickly catching bottom-feeding fast fish!
The second type is the versatile almond-shaped bobber, with a balance point slightly higher than the first type.
In practical use, with the same weight and setting, it takes longer to overturn and is better suited for intercepting the bait en route.
Commonly used is the almond bobber with bobber body, leg, and tail roughly divided into thirds, suitable for general fishing conditions!
The third type is the spherical bobber, with an egg-shaped or near egg-shaped body, thick body, short shaft, with very long travel time, achieving position slowly!
This bobber is an enhanced version of the almond bobber, with a large cross-sectional area, providing more resistance in water and a slower descent, allowing longer travel time!
Based on these three representative bobber types, differences in the length of bobber body, legs, and tail show obvious practical effects.
For example, a long-leg, short-tail almond bobber has a very low balance point and flips over quite rapidly.
Meanwhile, a 60 cm long-tail, long-leg bobber takes much longer to flip and settle in the water!
Remember the bobber performance differences and selection principles.
With the same weight and setting, the lower the balance point, the faster the flip. Longer tails mean longer travel paths! The larger the cross-sectional area of the bobber body, the slower the descent, while greater longitudinal area means less resistance to water flow!"
