Su He

Chapter 132 Who is more important, a grandson or a grandson's wife?

Old Master Lu was overjoyed to learn that his grandson and granddaughter-in-law were coming to visit him.

He dressed up early in the morning and sat in the living room waiting.

The butler couldn't help but smile and tease him when he saw how formally he was dressed. "Sir, the young master and madam won't be here until the afternoon. It's no use waiting now!"

"I'm happy! What business is it of yours!" Old Master Lu and the butler had known each other for most of their lives, their relationship having long surpassed that of master and servant.

The saying that old people become like children was indeed true.

The older the elders got, the more like children they became, needing to be coaxed.

"Alright, as long as you're happy," the butler said with a smile, handing him a cup of tea.

Old Master Lu took it and drank a few sips. "What do you think of my outfit? Is the color too old-fashioned?"

"Red is in fashion this year, and this set is very suitable," the butler said sincerely.

But Old Master Lu felt something was missing. "Should I wear a hat too?"

"Sir, you're not attending a fashion show. Why are you dressing up so elaborately?" The butler was both amused and exasperated.

"They've finally come back for a visit, so I have to make an effort to tidy up," Old Master Lu adjusted his collar for the nth time.

The butler, helpless, ordered someone to fetch a black cashmere hat from the cloakroom.

Only then was Old Master Lu satisfied.

Su He and Lu Yanbei arrived at three in the afternoon.

Lu Yanbei was delayed for a while due to an urgent matter at the company. By the time he picked up Su He, time had flown by.

Hearing the car engine at the gate, Old Master Lu immediately stood up, leaning on his cane, and craned his neck to look towards the entrance. Before long, he saw Lu Yanbei walking in, holding something in one hand and Su He's hand in the other.

It wasn't Su He's first time at the Lu family villa, but stepping into it again felt somewhat subtle.

Before, as Lu Jingyang's wife, she had been completely invisible. Except for Old Master, everyone else either ignored her or, like Zhao Yafen, made sarcastic remarks that were utterly unpleasant.

In this household, the only ones who never gave her a cold shoulder were Grandpa and Lu Yanbei.

Thinking back to the years she lived under the same roof as Lu Yanbei, it felt quite strange. Although he only stayed overnight occasionally and they rarely communicated when they met, she could always sense his gaze on her.

At first, she wondered if Lu Yanbei had some issue with her. Later, she realized that apart from occasionally observing her, he never said anything excessive. He even intervened when others spoke ill of her.

Perhaps, he had cared about her for a long time?

This realization made Su He's heart feel sweet.

"Grandpa," Su He snapped back to reality and said with a smile.

Old Master Lu responded with an "Ah" and happily said, "Come here and let me take a look... You seem to have lost weight again!"

Su He: ...

"Grandpa, I've gained five pounds," Su He patted her small belly.

"Lost weight where! If you ask me, you should eat more. That's what prosperity is," Old Master said, grinning from ear to ear as he looked at Su He.

As for Lu Yanbei, his grandson, he was completely neglected.

This marked difference in treatment truly amazed the servants.

Lu Yanbei didn't mind.

He even helped serve tea and water on the side, without a single complaint.

Seeing his change, everyone was dumbfounded.

Was this the difference between being married and not being married?

Where had the cool young master gone?

"Does Ah Yan treat you well? If he dares to bully you, tell Grandpa, and Grandpa will teach him a lesson!" Old Master Lu said, glaring at his grandson beside him.

Lu Yanbei raised his eyebrows and pretended not to hear.

Su He quickly waved her hands, "No, he doesn't bully me."

"Really?"

"Don't you trust your grandson yet?" Su He retorted.

"I'm really not sure," Old Master Lu said without sparing his grandson any face. "This kid has been arrogant since he was young, looking down on everyone. You can't get a word out of him even with a beating. Don't you find it boring staying with him?"

"It's alright..." Su He said. "He's actually cold on the outside but warm on the inside..."

Su He kept singing Lu Yanbei's praises.

"Grandpa was just teasing you," Lu Yanbei couldn't stand it anymore and squeezed Su He's hand.

Su He was instantly stunned.

"I wasn't kidding! It's rare for you to bring a granddaughter-in-law home. If you scare her away, I'll break your legs!" Old Master Lu deliberately put on a stern face and scolded.

Lu Yanbei looked at his dramatic grandfather and said, "Got it."

Without Lu Yunting's family around, the villa felt much quieter. But that was good; at least there wouldn't be so many troublesome matters. Old Master Lu was already used to it.

"Lu Yunting hasn't caused you any trouble, has he?" While Su He went to the restroom, Old Master asked Lu Yanbei.

"He wouldn't dare," Lu Yanbei replied calmly.

Lu Yunting indeed wouldn't dare.

He had the desire but not the courage.

In front of his son Lu Yanbei, he had no choice but to obey. Otherwise, if Lu Yanbei was displeased, he would cancel his credit card and stop his monthly allowance.

Lu Yunting wasn't stupid, so he didn't actively provoke Lu Yanbei.

However, he had recently gotten involved with a married woman, and his expenses had increased significantly. Therefore, he had been looking for various excuses to ask Lu Yanbei for more pocket money.

Lu Yanbei naturally refused and warned him to break off contact with that woman as soon as possible, or face the consequences.

Lu Yunting was initially unwilling, but after seeing the information Lu Yanbei sent him, he immediately backed down. This was because the man behind the woman had a formidable identity.

If he didn't want to lose a limb, he decisively broke up with the woman.

Lately, Lu Yunting had been relatively well-behaved.

Zhao Yafen welcomed Lu Yunting back and had also been quiet for a while.

The most troublesome one was actually Lu Jingyang.

After being dumped by Song Yan, he became dejected. Although he claimed to have moved on, he still cared about her to some extent. After all, he had been with Song Yan for five years and had invested a lot of emotion.

He had treated Song Yan wholeheartedly, only to be unceremoniously dumped. He couldn't get past this hurdle.

Lu Jingyang didn't want to listen to Zhao Yafen's nagging and had been living in Lu Yanbei's penthouse recently.

Lu Yanbei didn't want him to remain so depressed, so he handed him a project from a branch company to divert his attention. However, Lu Jingyang was truly not cut out for business. He couldn't understand many things, let alone tackle problems.

Lu Yunting was very pleased.

He felt that Lu Yanbei was finally showing some humanity and was willing to promote his brother into the company. If Lu Jingyang could secure a position in the company in the future, his own life would also become much easier.

Unfortunately, Lu Jingyang was truly not suited for it. After a few days of work, he gave up. "Brother, I can accompany clients for meals and entertainment, but I really can't do this."

Lu Yanbei thought for a moment. "That's perfect. We have a project abroad to negotiate. The contact person is a beautiful woman, and you'll be responsible for entertaining her."

"My foreign language skills are not good..." Lu Jingyang said with a mournful face.

"She speaks Chinese," Lu Yanbei did not allow him to back down.

Lu Jingyang was thus drafted into service.

Su He had once curiously asked Lu Yanbei, "Why did you suddenly think of using him?"

"That female client is a bit difficult to deal with, and I don't want you to get jealous," Lu Yanbei replied.

Su He: ...

She wasn't going to take the blame for that.
