Chapter 137 He Still Followed

Girls in love are the most sensitive, and anxiety is a common occurrence.

Su He stood Lu Yanbei up and walked aimlessly, looking lost. She didn't know where to go or how to face him in the future.

In short, her heart was in a mess, and she couldn't find peace.

Just then, Su Chen called, saying Tang Jiaojiao had fallen and asking if she wanted to visit her at the hospital. Su He finally snapped out of her daze and urgently asked for the hospital address.

Su He practically ran to the roadside and hailed a taxi.

Lu Yanbei, worried about Su He leaving alone, followed her in his car from a distance. Seeing her hail a taxi and leave in a hurry, he stepped on the gas pedal and followed.

He still had some unfinished business, but he couldn't bother with it anymore.

He followed her all the way to the city center hospital.

Su He, in her formal gown, found it inconvenient to move, especially in her new high heels. Even if they fit perfectly, her feet would get tired after walking for a long time. Before she even reached the hospital entrance, her foot cramped.

Su He leaned against the wall to rest for a moment. Just as she was about to go inside to find someone, a strong arm steadied her.

She turned her head and met Lu Yanbei's familiar face.

How did he end up here!

"Did something happen?" Lu Yanbei asked.

Su He didn't have time to think about other things and slowly nodded. "My mother fell. I don't know where she's injured."

"Don't worry, give her a call," Lu Yanbei kindly reminded her.

Su He suddenly remembered she had a phone.

She fumbled in her bag, took out her phone, and dialed Su Chen's number. "Where are you? I've arrived at the hospital entrance."

"I'll come down to meet you," Su Chen said.

"No need, just tell me the floor, I'll come up myself." Su He glanced at Lu Yanbei beside her and changed her words.

Su Chen, on the other end of the line, seemed to sense something and gave her a department address.

Su He hung up and began looking for the elevator.

She was eager to know Tang Jiaojiao's condition.

Seeing her rush off, Lu Yanbei worried she might sprain her ankle. "Walk slower, it's not that urgent."

Su He pursed her lips and remained silent.

After finally waiting for the elevator, Su He lifted her skirt and walked in, nearly colliding with someone pushing a wheelchair.

"Be careful," Lu Yanbei quickly embraced her.

Leaning into his arms, Su He's heart trembled slightly.

Once the other passengers exited the elevator, they proceeded to the third floor.

The sign for the surgical clinic was conspicuous, and Su He quickly found Tang Jiaojiao.

Seeing Su He and Lu Yanbei rushing over, Tang Jiaojiao couldn't help but scold Su Chen. "I told you it wasn't serious, why did you make them come!"

"I heard you fell, and I was worried..." Su Chen explained calmly.

"I just missed a step on the stairs, I'll be fine in a couple of days." Tang Jiaojiao, though appearing delicate, had an underlying resilience. She usually hid it well, so no one noticed.

"What did the doctor say?" Su He walked over to her, crouched down, and examined her bandaged foot.

"Just a bump and a slight fracture," Tang Jiaojiao said lightly. "You're dressed like this, are you attending a party?"

Su He vaguely replied. "That's not important, let me see the diagnosis report."

"Hey, you girl, you don't even trust me," Tang Jiaojiao chided playfully. Then, she handed Su He a CT scan report.

Su He studied it carefully and found that it indeed wasn't serious, which put her mind somewhat at ease. "I remember there's an elevator there, how did you fall?"

"We're moving, so I went back to the old village. Unexpectedly, the movers were careless and damaged some things. I went to reason with them, and in a moment of carelessness, I missed a step."

"Moving? Is the old village being demolished?" Su He raised her eyes in surprise.

"Yes, the old residential area is being renovated. The compensation is reasonable, and many people have signed contracts." Tang Jiaojiao felt a little reluctant to move. After all, she had lived there for decades and had formed an attachment.

Su Chen glanced at Lu Yanbei from the side, remaining silent.

The land in Fengxi Village seemed to have been acquired by the Lu Group. He had considered bidding for the project back then, but his capabilities were insufficient, so he had to give up.

Looking at it now, the gap between him and Lu Yanbei was not just a little bit.

As Su Chen was lost in thought, he heard Tang Jiaojiao say, "Xiao Chen, help me get a wheelchair from the nurse. I can't walk like this."

Su Chen snapped back to attention and replied, "Okay."

Then, he quietly walked away.

Su He sat beside Tang Jiaojiao, periodically asking her if she felt any discomfort.

"All the necessary checks have been done, and there are no other problems." Tang Jiaojiao fiddled with her newly styled hair and smiled, looking at Su He and Lu Yanbei, a perfect couple.

"You're dressed so beautifully today, are you going on a date?" she whispered into Su He's ear.

Su He lowered her gaze and shook her head. "No, I'm going to the Lu Group's annual gala."

"Oh, no wonder you're so formal." Tang Jiaojiao showed a knowing expression. Then, she praised Su He's attire. "As expected of my daughter, with a little dressing up, you've transformed into a little princess."

Su He forced a dry laugh, not daring to share the bitterness in her heart with her.

Lu Yanbei occasionally exchanged a few words with the doctor, but his gaze never left Su He, naturally taking in her every move.

Su He seemed off.

But he still couldn't figure out what she was being contrary about, especially when everything had been fine before.

The unusual silence between them made Tang Jiaojiao, an experienced observer, sense something was amiss. While Lu Yanbei was inquiring about the condition with the doctor, Tang Jiaojiao tugged Su He's hand and asked in a low voice, "What's wrong with you two, have you had a fight?"

Su He came back to her senses and gently shook her head. "No."

"Don't try to fool me! You haven't made eye contact since you got here." Tang Jiaojiao hit the nail on the head.

"Really not." Su He didn't want her to worry, so she lied against her will. "We're always like this, please don't overthink it."

Tang Jiaojiao, however, was not easily convinced. "The problem isn't with the son-in-law, it's with you. Tell me honestly, what exactly happened between you two?"

Su He hadn't expected Tang Jiaojiao to be so sharp.

However, she opened her mouth but didn't know where to start. "It's just some small matters, I'll handle it."

"You really think you can handle it?" Tang Jiaojiao expressed doubt.

Su He's face couldn't help but blush. "Don't you trust me that much!"

"From what I know of you, whenever you encounter a problem, you don't face it actively, but rather digest it silently by yourself," Tang Jiaojiao observed her.

Su He's eyes turned slightly red.

The one who understood her best was, after all, her closest family member.
