Luo Fei certainly wouldn't just wait to die.
Upon arriving at the police station, he remained silent, demanding to contact his lawyer before saying anything else.
"Someone like that scum actually has someone to defend him!" Officer Li grumbled angrily in a low voice, leaning against the glass.
He was young and impatient.
Another middle-aged detective appeared much more seasoned. "He's just trying to buy time! The evidence we have is enough to prove his crimes anyway. Whether he has a lawyer or not, he'll still be convicted."
"Master, can the crimes he committed be sentenced to death?" the young officer asked.
"It's hard to say," the older detective shook his head.
"Why? Didn't you say the evidence was conclusive?"
"That evidence only proves his acts of molestation and rape; it's difficult to prove he committed murder."
"Ah? Then won't he only get a few years?" The young officer was indignant. This kind of devil should be shot.
"We'll see if any new evidence surfaces," the older detective said, taking a puff of his cigarette, as if he had seen too much of this. Cases that lead to the conviction of murderers were few; most cases ended hastily due to insufficient evidence or became cold cases.
Seeing such cases frequently made them no longer unusual.
The young officer, fresh out of the police academy, was still full of youthful passion and found it hard to accept. "It must be difficult to prove he had a motive for murder!"
"The wheels of justice grind slowly but surely. Don't worry, the difficulties are only temporary." The older detective patted his apprentice's shoulder, not wanting him to lose heart. "Let's go back to his house again, perhaps we can find some clues."
Someone as conceited and proud as Luo Fei, after experiencing the thrill of killing, would surely keep something as a memento. These things were often the most damning evidence.
Luo Fei's lawyer did not arrive immediately. Instead, he first went to Luo Fei's home.
He cleaned the surveillance footage from the studio every day, leaving almost no evidence. However, he had copied some things beforehand and stored them in a place he considered the safest. Periodically, he would take them out to admire and savor.
These things absolutely must not fall into the hands of the police.
"Mrs. Luo," the lawyer called out, nodding to Luo Fei's wife after she opened the door.
"Lawyer Fang?" The woman's eyes immediately welled up with tears upon seeing him. "How is Luo Fei?"
"Please calm down, Mrs. Luo. With me here, Mr. Luo will be fine." The lawyer, surnamed Fang, spoke with a composed expression, seemingly unconcerned about the upcoming trial. "It's like this, Mr. Luo left some things at home, and he asked me to retrieve them."
"What kind of things?" Mrs. Luo wiped her eyes and invited him in.
"He said they were in the study," Lawyer Fang replied. "You're pregnant, Mrs. Luo, so you don't need to bother accompanying me. Please rest in the living room, I'll get them myself."
Luo Fei had repeatedly instructed him not to let his wife know, so Lawyer Fang found an excuse to keep her in the living room.
A pregnant woman's mind is exceptionally sensitive.
Lawyer Fang's actions deepened her unease.
Could it be that Luo Fei had truly committed something?
Was it tax evasion, or a medical malpractice?
She remembered that a few years ago, someone had come to their door causing trouble, demanding his life. She had been terrified then. Later, when Luo Fei was fine, she had finally put her mind at ease.
This time, was it related to that previous incident?
Lawyer Fang searched the study but couldn't find the item. He returned to the living room and sternly asked Mrs. Luo, "Why is the criminal law book on the third shelf of the bookshelf missing?"
Mrs. Luo snapped back to attention and stood up, holding her waist. "Didn't my husband ask his secretary to take that book away a couple of days ago?"
Upon hearing this, Lawyer Fang's expression darkened.
It seemed he was a step too late.
Thinking of the crucial evidence, beads of sweat broke out on Lawyer Fang's forehead. He had agreed to take the case for two reasons: first, his long-standing friendship with Luo Fei. They had collaborated happily for many years. Second, Luo Fei paid him handsomely, several times more than others. Coupled with his cautious nature, he had left no leverage, which was why he took on the case under pressure.
This was a high-profile case. While not glorious, infamy was still a form of fame.
His performance at the law firm would improve, attracting more clients in the future.
But now, with the crucial evidence already in someone else's hands, Luo Fei's murder charge was solidified. His defense would surely fail. However, he had already accepted the money, and withdrawing would be unprofessional.
He was truly in a difficult position.
"Lawyer Fang, what's wrong?" Mrs. Luo's heart grew more anxious as she noticed his strange expression.
Lawyer Fang managed a wry smile. "It's nothing. Perhaps Mr. Luo misremembered."
"I have to go to the police station later, goodbye." Lawyer Fang, afraid she would sense something, did not linger and left in a hurry.
Mrs. Luo watched his retreating figure, tears streaming down her face uncontrollably.
It seemed Luo Fei had really landed himself in big trouble!
Mrs. Luo leaned helplessly against the doorframe, panicking.

"Fortunately, we got the evidence first. Otherwise, if he had reacted and destroyed the video, it would have been difficult to convict him!" Su He looked at the USB drive in Lu Yanbei's hand and kissed him affectionately.
"My husband's foresight is truly amazing!"
Lu Yanbei sighed and tossed the USB drive onto the coffee table. "Is it worth it for someone unrelated?"
"It just so happened to coincide! Besides, that Luo Fei is truly detestable, harming so many lives. If he's allowed to continue getting away with it, countless people will fall victim to his wickedness."
"I'm essentially eliminating a scourge for the people!"
Lu Yanbei rubbed his throbbing temples, grudgingly accepting her reasoning.
He actually didn't want Su He to get involved in such matters because they were too sinister. She only needed to see the beauty of the world. Those ugly things were not worth her effort.
"Aren't you preparing for your art exhibition? Have the invitations been made?" To divert her attention, Lu Yanbei brought up the subject.
"The invitations are already being customized and will be express-delivered tomorrow. To be honest, I'm a bit nervous, afraid I'll make a fool of myself." It was Su He's first art exhibition, so she was naturally apprehensive.
"Your teacher rarely praises anyone; you should have confidence in yourself!" Lu Yanbei pulled her into his arms to encourage her. "When the time comes, I'll invite some friends to support you, alright?"
"Perhaps not!" Su He felt that the more familiar people were, the more self-conscious she became. Moreover, if she wanted to improve, she needed to hear honest opinions. Unwavering praise would hinder her development.
"Don't overthink it. Supporting your wife's career is what a husband should do," Lu Yanbei said dotingly.
