Luo Fei certainly wouldn't just wait to be caught.
At the police station, he remained silent, demanding to contact his lawyer before saying anything else.
"This scumbag still has someone to represent him!" Officer Xiao Li muttered indignantly, leaning against the glass.
He was young, after all, and couldn't keep his temper.
The other, middle-aged detective appeared much more seasoned. "He's just trying to stall for time! The evidence we have is more than enough to prove his guilt. Whether he has a lawyer or not, he'll be convicted anyway."
"Master, can the crimes he committed warrant the death penalty?" the young officer asked.
"Hard to say," the older detective replied, shaking his head.
"Why? Didn't you say the evidence is conclusive?"
"That evidence only proves his acts of molestation and rape. It's difficult to prove he committed murder."
"What? Then he'll only get a few years?" The young officer was indignant. Such a demon deserved to be executed.
"We'll have to see if any new evidence surfaces," the older detective said, taking a puff of his cigarette, clearly accustomed to such situations. Cases where culprits are brought to justice are few and far between. Most cases are quickly concluded due to insufficient evidence or remain cold cases.
Having seen so many cases like this, it was no longer surprising.
The young officer, fresh out of the police academy and full of righteous fervor, found it hard to accept. "It must be difficult to prove he had a motive for murder!"
"Heaven's net is vast and its mesh is fine. Don't worry, the difficulties are only temporary," the older detective patted his apprentice's shoulder, unwilling to let him be discouraged. "Come, let's go to his house again. Perhaps we can find some clues."
Someone like Luo Fei, arrogant and proud, would surely keep something as a memento after savoring the taste of murder. These things often become the most damning evidence.
Luo Fei's lawyer did not arrive immediately but first went to Luo Fei's home.
He cleaned the surveillance footage from the studio every day, leaving almost no evidence behind. However, he had copied some things beforehand and stored them in what he considered the safest place. Periodically, he would take them out to admire.
These items must absolutely not fall into the hands of the police.
"Mrs. Luo," the lawyer greeted, opening the door and nodding at Luo Fei's wife.
"Lawyer Fang?" The woman's eyes immediately welled up with tears upon seeing him. "How is Luo Fei?"
"Please calm yourself, Mrs. Luo. With me here, Mr. Luo will be fine." The lawyer, surnamed Fang, spoke with a composed expression, seemingly unconcerned about the upcoming trial. "It's like this, Mr. Luo left some things at home and asked me to retrieve them."
"What kind of things?" Mrs. Luo wiped her eyes and invited him in.
"He said they were in the study," Lawyer Fang replied. "Mrs. Luo, you're pregnant, so please don't trouble yourself. Rest in the living room, I'll get them myself."
Luo Fei had repeatedly instructed him not to let his wife know, so Lawyer Fang found an excuse to keep her in the living room.
A pregnant woman's mind is exceptionally sensitive.
Lawyer Fang's actions deepened the unease in her heart.
Could it be that Luo Fei had truly committed some offense?
Was it tax evasion, or a medical malpractice?
She recalled that a few years ago, someone had come to their door causing trouble, demanding retribution. It had terrified her at the time. Only when Luo Fei remained unharmed afterward did she finally relax.
This time, was it related to that incident again?
Lawyer Fang searched the study but couldn't find the item. He returned to the living room and asked Mrs. Luo with a solemn expression, "The law book on the third shelf of the bookshelf, why is it missing?"
Mrs. Luo snapped back to reality and stood up, holding her waist. "Didn't my husband ask his secretary to take that book a couple of days ago?"
Upon hearing this, Lawyer Fang's expression darkened.
It seemed he was still one step too late.
Thinking of the crucial evidence, Lawyer Fang's forehead began to sweat. The reason he agreed to take the case was twofold. First, his friendship with Luo Fei was deep-seated. They had collaborated happily for many years. Second, Luo Fei paid handsomely, several times more than anyone else. Coupled with his own cautious nature, having left no loose ends, he had taken on the case despite the pressure.
This was a high-profile case. Although not exactly honorable, notoriety was still a form of fame.
His performance at the law firm would improve, attracting more clients in the future.
But now, with the critical evidence already in someone else's hands, Luo Fei's crime of murder would be definitively proven. His defense would surely end in failure. However, he had already accepted the money, and withdrawing now would be unprofessional.
He was truly in a difficult position.
"Lawyer Fang, what's wrong?" Mrs. Luo, seeing his strange demeanor, felt increasingly anxious.
Lawyer Fang managed a wry smile. "It's nothing. Perhaps Mr. Luo misremembered."
"I have to go to the police station shortly. Goodbye." Lawyer Fang, fearing she might suspect something, left in a hurry without lingering.
Mrs. Luo watched his retreating figure, her tears flowing uncontrollably again.
It seemed Luo Fei had indeed gotten himself into serious trouble!
Mrs. Luo, feeling helpless, leaned against the doorframe, utterly panicked.

"It's a good thing we got the evidence first. Otherwise, if he'd had time to destroy the video, it would have been difficult to convict him!" Su He kissed Lu Yanbei affectionately as she looked at the USB drive in his hand.
"My husband's foresight is truly amazing!"
Lu Yanbei sighed and casually tossed the USB drive onto the coffee table. "Is it worth it for someone completely unrelated?"
"It just so happened that we ran into this! Besides, that Luo Fei is truly detestable, harming so many lives. If he's allowed to continue getting away with it, who knows how many more people will fall victim to him."
"In a way, I'm eliminating a scourge for the people!"
Lu Yanbei rubbed his throbbing temples, grudgingly accepting her reasoning.
He actually didn't want Su He to get involved in such matters, as they were too sinister. She only needed to see the beauty of the world. Those ugly things were not worth her energy.
"Aren't you preparing for your art exhibition? Have the invitations been made?" To shift her attention, Lu Yanbei brought up the topic.
"The invitations are being customized and will be delivered by express mail tomorrow. To be honest, I'm a bit nervous, afraid I'll make a fool of myself." This was Su He's first art exhibition, so it was natural for her to be anxious.
"Your teacher rarely praises anyone. You need to have confidence in yourself!" Lu Yanbei pulled her into his arms to encourage her. "When the time comes, I'll invite a few friends to come and support you, okay?"
"Perhaps not," Su He felt that she would be even more self-conscious around people she knew well. Moreover, if she wanted to improve, she needed to receive honest feedback. Constant praise would hinder her development.
"Don't overthink it. Supporting your wife's career is what a husband should do," Lu Yanbei said dotingly.
