Jiang Xiaoxiao learned the news of Su He's pregnancy while she was being treated in the hospital.
The day before, on her way home, she had been grazed by a runaway car. Although she wasn't seriously injured, she had multiple soft tissue contusions and needed to be hospitalized for observation.
"I'm going to be a godmother!" Jiang Xiaoxiao sat up excitedly upon seeing the message from Su He. She accidentally pulled on her wound and had to lie back down in pain.
When Su Chen returned after his phone call, he frowned at her pathetic state. "Your injuries aren't healed yet, why are you so excited? Also, you've got the wrong title. It's not godmother, it's auntie!"
Jiang Xiaoxiao's eyes widened.
He even wanted to bicker over this title?
"I don't care! We agreed from the start that if Su He had a child, it would be my godson!" Jiang Xiaoxiao gave him a glare and continued to reply to Su He.
She had originally planned to visit Su He immediately, but looking at the gauze wrapped around her wrist, she had to delete her message and retype. "I'm actually on a business trip right now. I'll come see you and my godson when I get back!"
"Mhmm, work is important," Su He replied.
They chatted for a while before a nurse came in to change her dressing.
Perhaps it was a new nurse, as her movements were not very skilled. She touched the wound several times, causing Jiang Xiaoxiao to gasp in pain.
Su Chen couldn't bear to watch and stopped the nurse. "Let me do it."
The nurse blushed, a little flustered.
"Put the supplies down, you can go," Su Chen said, deciding to do it himself to avoid causing Jiang Xiaoxiao further pain.
His bandaging wasn't aesthetically pleasing, but his movements were exceptionally gentle, preventing Jiang Xiaoxiao from suffering more. Being cared for like this warmed Jiang Xiaoxiao's heart.
So, Su Chen could be this gentle too.
Jiang Xiaoxiao stared at his face, feeling incredibly happy.
"I know I'm a feast for the eyes, but you don't have to stare constantly," Su Chen reminded her earnestly while changing her dressing.
Jiang Xiaoxiao propped her head up and said with a smile, "I'm looking at my boyfriend, do you have a problem with that?"
Su Chen paused for two seconds, then shifted his gaze back to her leg. "No."
Jiang Xiaoxiao chuckled twice, feeling exceptionally satisfied. "By the way, please don't tell Miao Miao that I'm injured. I don't want her to worry."
Su Chen hummed in agreement.
His movements were swift, and he finished treating her wound quickly.
Jiang Xiaoxiao moved her limbs and gave him a thumbs-up. "Great technique! Did you practice often before?"
Su Chen moved a stool closer and sat down slowly. "No, I learned by watching a few times."
"Wow, then you're really amazing!" Jiang Xiaoxiao gave him an admiring glance.
Su Chen, not wanting to engage in banter with her, flipped through his phone messages.
He, the dignified head of the company, busy with myriad affairs, had spent several days in the hospital. If he didn't take some time to manage his work, the files would pile up mountain-high by the time he returned.
"Director Su, what are you looking at?" Jiang Xiaoxiao, bored after browsing her phone for a while, turned her attention to him.
Su Chen gave instructions to his secretary while answering her question. "Work matters."
"Ah, I haven't been to the company for a few days. I might get fired," Jiang Xiaoxiao said. Hearing him mention work, she belatedly remembered that she had forgotten to request leave.
Unexplained absence was a serious offense.
Although her work ability was outstanding, such impulsiveness would still incur consequences.
"I've already requested leave for you," Su Chen said, looking up at her. After dealing with some work, he put his phone back into his pocket. "Have you thought about what you want for lunch?"
"Hot pot," Jiang Xiaoxiao's eyes lit up at the mention of food.
"No," Su Chen refused outright. "Your injuries haven't healed yet, you need to avoid spicy food."
"I don't have to eat the spicy part," Jiang Xiaoxiao pouted in dissatisfaction. "There are many kinds of hot pot, mushroom and three-delicacy are not spicy!"
"It's too greasy and not good for your health," Su Chen mercilessly punctured her fantasy.
"I can eat a little!" Jiang Xiaoxiao tried hard to plead her case. "Really, I'll only have twenty bites!"
Su Chen remained unmoved by her pitiful expression.
He believed he was doing this for her own good.
"Go buy a bowl of lean meat porridge from the canteen downstairs," Su Chen instructed his secretary.
Jiang Xiaoxiao's face instantly fell.
She had been eating porridge for several days and had developed a physiological aversion to it. Couldn't he choose something else? She was a patient and needed to replenish her nutrients!
"I won't eat it, I won't eat it, I absolutely refuse to eat it!"
"Someone is mistreating a patient!"
Jiang Xiaoxiao looked at Su Chen resentfully and protested.
"Be good, don't make a fuss! When your injuries are healed, I'll take you to eat whatever you want, okay?" Su Chen, unusually patient, coaxed her, but showed no intention of backing down.
In his opinion, hot pot offered no nutritional value and was prone to causing inflammation.
Jiang Xiaoxiao's protest was in vain, and she turned away in annoyance, refusing to engage with him.
Neither of them would budge, and the atmosphere became tense.
Finally, Su He's phone call rescued them from the awkward situation.
"Brother, I happen to be passing by your company. Do you want to have lunch together?" Su He called directly, too lazy to text.
Jiang Xiaoxiao's ears perked up when she heard Su He's voice.
Su Chen never lied to Su He. "I'm not at the company."
After a two-second pause, he added, "Why are you out when you should be resting at home?"
"I've been lying down for two months, I feel like I'm going to waste away. The sun is nice today, so I wanted to go for a walk," Su He said, already standing below the Yiteng Technology office building. "Xiaoxiao isn't here, why aren't you here either? Could it be that you two are on a business trip together again?"
Su Chen glanced at the person on the hospital bed and said calmly, "Yes, she's right beside me. Do you want to talk to her?"
He was essentially covering for Jiang Xiaoxiao's lie.
"Never mind, since you're busy, I won't disturb you." Su He was about to turn away when she saw Su Chen's secretary hurrying out.
Su He couldn't help but frown.
He was Su Chen's chief secretary, always by his boss's side. Why was he here?
"Secretary Liu, weren't you on the business trip with my brother?" Su He called out to him.
Secretary Liu, unaware that his boss was deliberately keeping it from her, turned around and politely exchanged pleasantries. "Miss Su, you're here. The boss is at the hospital, I'm rushing to get there now."
Upon hearing his words, Su He's heart sank. "What happened? Is something wrong with my brother?"
"It's not Mr. Su, it's Miss Jiang." Secretary Liu was an honest person and was easily tricked into revealing the truth by Su He's few words.
Su He listened with a racing heart.
Xiaoxiao had been in a car accident, and she had kept it from her!
Weren't they best friends who told each other everything?
How could she!
"Which hospital are they in?" Su He asked with a stern face.
Secretary Liu, not realizing she had caused trouble, immediately gave an address.
Su Chen, still on the phone, and Jiang Xiaoxiao, who was eavesdropping: ...
Disaster was imminent!
