Minutes ticked by, and the police at various intersections, though on high alert, saw no sign of the blue taxi their superior had mentioned.
“Calculating the time, it should have come down by now.”
“Could it have gone to another intersection?”
“According to the GPS, it was heading straight for our area.”
“Did it get into an accident on the overpass? Check with traffic control, see if they’ve received any news.”
After some more time passed, the taxi was still nowhere in sight, and everyone was getting anxious.
“Boss, the red dot is moving again.”
“Where’s it going?”
“Towards Jigong Mountain.”
“That’s the development zone…”
“I remember there’s a newly built ramp there that hasn’t been opened to traffic yet,” a female officer suddenly recalled. “It’s not on the map yet.”
“Oh no, we missed that!”
“Quick, contact the people there, tell them to get over there immediately.”
“Attention all units, the suspect may be fleeing towards Jigong Mountain, all nearby officers, rush to the scene…”
Lu Yanbei, sitting in the driver’s seat, closely monitored the police’s movements.
The black Maybach sped along the Third Ring Road, occasionally performing impressive feats of speed.
He just wanted to go faster, faster.
After speeding for over twenty kilometers, his car finally approached the red dot.
Five kilometers, three kilometers, two kilometers, eight hundred meters… Lu Yanbei gripped the steering wheel tightly, not daring to relax. Cheng Jue, sitting in the passenger seat, clutched the overhead handle, his face pale, desperately fighting the urge to throw up.
He had never been in such a fast car in his life.
Oh my god, it’s terrifying!
Guided by the navigation, the car turned onto a ramp blocked by obstacles.
“Boss, this road isn’t open to traffic yet…” Cheng Jue kindly reminded him.
Lu Yanbei, however, drove the car forward without hesitation.
Cheng Jue yelped, his eyes shut tight.
If the road ended ahead, at this speed, they were likely to crash and perish.
However, the collision he had imagined never came.
After navigating a few sharp turns, the car entered an unknown small road.
Lu Yanbei glanced at the red marker on the GPS and hit the accelerator, driving onto a muddy dirt road.
This desolate place, overgrown with weeds, with very few houses, looked somewhat frightening.
Cheng Jue was considering calling for backup when the car passed over a dilapidated stone bridge and entered a small village.
“Where is this?” Cheng Jue’s eyes widened involuntarily. In B City, where every inch of land was valuable, there was still such a backward place?
Further ahead was a field of crops. Beyond the field were rows of old residential houses, with several motorcycles parked outside. The blue taxi, which had disappeared from everyone’s sight, was parked in front of a two-story brick house.
Lu Yanbei parked the car on a relatively wide spot by the roadside, opened the door, and got out.
Cheng Jue took a moment to recover, his legs still weak as he followed. “Boss…”
“Shut up!” Lu Yanbei reprimanded him sternly.
Holding his phone, he watched the two red dots get closer, eventually stopping in front of the taxi.
Opening the car door, Su He’s phone was indeed lying on the floor mat.
The screen was cracked, but fortunately, it still had battery.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to track it down.
Thinking of what might have happened to Su He, veins bulged on Lu Yanbei’s forehead.
He strode up to the house and kicked the door open with one foot.
The person inside was about to take off the woman’s clothes when the commotion outside startled him, causing him to retract his hands.
“Who is it?” he called out, opening the room door. Before he could even see the other person’s face, he received a punch to the face. Then came blows to the stomach and legs.
The man with the buzz cut had been a delinquent since he was young, and fighting was a daily occurrence. But facing the enraged Lu Yanbei, he was beaten to a pulp, completely unable to fight back, only able to curl up on the ground, holding his head and wailing.
Cheng Jue watched as the man lost several teeth and his face turned bruised and purple. He quickly stepped forward and pulled his boss back. “Boss, we need him alive to find out who’s behind this. Don’t kill him.”
Lu Yanbei, however, didn’t seem to hear him, continuing to kick the man relentlessly.
Seeing that he couldn’t stop him, Cheng Jue had no choice but to bring Su He out. “Boss, Madam is still unconscious. Saving her is the priority…”
Mention of Su He finally slowed Lu Yanbei down.
Upon seeing Su He lying on the bed, eyes closed, her clothes partially undone, Lu Yanbei’s fist landed on the buzz-cut man’s face again. After venting his rage, he straightened up and walked swiftly towards Su He.
“A’Miao, wake up…” Lu Yanbei picked up the unconscious Su He, kissing her forehead repeatedly. “I’m here to save you, don’t be afraid…”
Su He’s body was limp as she leaned back. Apart from her breathing, there was no other reaction.
After calling her name several times without a response, Lu Yanbei’s calmed-down anger flared up again.
He turned his head and looked at the buzz-cut man on the ground. “Tell me, what exactly did you do to her?”
The man, beaten into a pulp, finally showed a trace of fear.
He hadn’t expected to provoke such a formidable opponent.
“N-nothing… just gave her some sleeping medicine…” the buzz-cut man stammered.
“You better tell the truth, or you’ll suffer even more,” Cheng Jue said, stepping on his back to confirm.
“I’m telling the truth…” the buzz-cut man cried out in pain again.
“Who instructed you to do this?” Cheng Jue continued to question.
“N-no one instructed me.” The buzz-cut man’s eyes darted away, resolutely unwilling to betray his friend.
Just then, Lu Yanbei’s bodyguards arrived.
Lu Yanbei, his patience exhausted, directly gave an order. “Remove one of his legs.”
“Yes.” The bodyguard in black respectfully replied and grabbed the man’s leg, ready to strike.
The buzz-cut man’s head shot up, his eyes filled with terror.
They’re not playing around, are they?
Cheng Jue, however, knew his boss was not joking. Madam was his red line. Anyone who dared to harm Madam would face a terrible fate.
He quietly turned his head away.
“I, I’ll talk!” cornered, the buzz-cut man no longer cared about the money. “It was Zhou Yingzi. She gave me some money and said she wanted to teach this young lady a lesson.”
Hearing the name Zhou Yingzi, Lu Yanbei’s fists clenched with a creak.
This woman again!
She really didn’t learn her lesson!
“The rest is up to you.” Lu Yanbei, uninterested in the details, picked up Su He and left the room.
He carefully placed Su He in the back seat and instructed, “Go to the hospital.”
The arriving driver bowed and responded, “Yes.”
Lu Yanbei didn’t inquire about what happened in the back room.
It was said that when the police arrived, the buzz-cut man was lying on the floor of the room, motionless, barely clinging to life.
