Chapter 185: Chapter 185: Gu Yan, Must You Be Like This!
Could Gu Yan have fainted in there? But there’s no sound coming out.
Tang Yuxiu got up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, pulled open the curtains, and the sunlight immediately scattered into the dark-toned bedroom, making it feel less oppressive and heavy.
He turned around, saw the messy bed, and went back to earnestly make it neatly, not leaving out a single corner.
After tidying up the bed, Gu Yan still didn’t come out. Tang Yuxiu didn’t know why he had to wait for her to come out. They were both at home anyway; she couldn’t possibly stay in the bathroom all day and night!
He paced back and forth in the bedroom, several times wanting to knock on the bathroom door to ask what she was doing inside.
But every time he raised his hand at the bathroom doorway, he eventually gave up and continued pacing back and forth, feeling annoyed alone.
Inside the bathroom, Gu Yan vaguely saw a shadow of someone casting on the door several times, quickly leaving again, feeling puzzled in her heart. Did Tang Yuxiu go crazy?
She didn’t think much, just felt that as long as Tang Yuxiu stayed in the bedroom, she didn’t really want to go out, didn’t want to face him directly, because she didn’t know what she might say or how she might react.
But after cleaning up the bathroom, she still opened the door and walked out.
After all, she and Tang Yuxiu were under the same roof; they couldn’t avoid each other forever. Some things, they couldn’t escape from.
She couldn’t predict how things would develop, nor did she want to predict it. If it reached a certain point, she would bear it.
As long as she was still here and her identity unchanged, she would always be tangled with him. She was self-aware about this.
Suddenly, Tang Yuxiu saw the bathroom door open and stopped his pacing steps, both hands properly resting by his sides, his whole demeanor returning to what it often was before.
Upon seeing Gu Yan, he coughed slightly, trying to cover up his stupidity from earlier and his current unease. He glared at Gu Yan, "What were you doing in the bathroom for so long? Does it take that much time to wash your face?"
Gu Yan glanced at him indifferently, feeling quite angry herself, so she retorted unceremoniously, "It’s none of your business." Then she walked into the wardrobe, and with a "bang," closed the door.
Tang Yuxiu, "..."
He stared intently at the wardrobe door. What kind of attitude was this!
First, the bathroom door was closed, now the wardrobe door was shut as well. Every door was keeping him out.
His heart felt quite discomforted.
Young Master Tang, after all, was a person with self-esteem and a temper. Annoyed by Gu Yan’s attitude towards him, he simply left the bedroom in a huff, closing the door with such force that it startled Gu Yan in the wardrobe.
She hummed softly, "Problematic." So early in the morning, always so changeable. She wasn’t even angry yet, but his temper was quite big.
After changing clothes and going out, sure enough, Tang Yuxiu was no longer in the bedroom. She wore an indifferent attitude on both her face and heart.
Downstairs in the living room, Young Master Tang had already turned on the TV to watch financial news. Gu Yan only glanced at him and then looked away, noticing the opened cake box on the coffee table, her heart pausing slightly.
Upon seeing her, Young Master Tang snorted slightly. Upon noticing her looking at the cake, his ears reddened a bit, feeling somewhat embarrassed.
He snorted heavily this time, looking disdainfully at the cake, and said, "What kind of awful cake did you buy, ugly enough, and it tastes terrible."
Ugly, terrible...
That was his evaluation of the celebratory cake she specially ordered for him.
Yeah, makes sense. Someone as grand as him would never appreciate something with no distinct style or taste.
She couldn’t deny, her heart was faintly stinging.
After all, it was something she specially prepared just for him, and not only did he not appreciate it, he even despised it. Anyone in her position would feel uncomfortable.
She walked over, began to tidy up the opened cake, covered it with the lid, picked it up, and headed toward the door.
Tang Yuxiu frowned, "Where are you going?"
"To the door." She replied without turning back.
"What are you doing taking the cake to the door?" he pursued the question.
"Didn’t you find it ugly and terrible? I’ll throw it away, so it doesn’t offend your sight sitting here." She answered without any emotion, as if stating a common matter.
Hearing this, Tang Yuxiu suddenly stood up, striding over to her, quickly catching up with her.
He grabbed her arm, pulling her back. Caught off guard, she stumbled, nearly losing her balance, and as a result, the cake in her hand fell to the ground.
Staring at the deformed cake box on the floor, with cream vaguely splattered on the ground, both were momentarily stunned.
The scene froze for a moment.
The broken cake seemed to have broken something else at the same time.
Gu Yan looked up, coldly staring at Tang Yuxiu, "I know you don’t like it, but I was already going to throw it away. Why do you have to go the extra mile and insist on seeing it in this state to feel satisfied?"
Why express his dislike and disdain so thoroughly in front of her?
Is it the cake he hates or is it her?
Gu Yan didn’t care to guess anymore. Whatever it was, whatever way he sees her, however, he feels about her, it had nothing to do with her!
Tang Yuxiu’s grip on her arm slightly tightened, he didn’t mean it, but at this moment, he didn’t know how to open his mouth to explain.
He just wanted to stop her, not to let her throw it away.
This cake was the first gift she gave to him. How could he not like it?
It was just that he was too proud, with too much self-esteem to admit it in front of her.
Watching her cold gaze, all he felt was a sharp pain in his heart, wanting to retort but unable to speak.
So, this is what it feels like to be misunderstood and determined to be this kind of person.
In the past, how many times had Tang Yuxiu wronged Gu Yan out of stubbornness, causing her pain, until today, their relationship has only worsened.
Gu Yan moved her arm that he was holding, and said in a low voice, "Let go!"
Tang Yuxiu instinctively tightened his grip, and Gu Yan frowned, suddenly flinging her arm away with force, and she couldn’t help but take two steps back before stabilizing herself.
She turned her head slightly to look at her arm, which was red from his grip, without a trace of emotion in her eyes, although her heart ached.
Tang Yuxiu also noticed the red mark on her hand and couldn’t help but feel a burst of frustration; he had unconsciously hurt her again.
Gu Yan crouched down, picked up the distorted cake, and walked towards the door.
The cake she bought to celebrate Tang Yuxiu, her heartfelt gesture, in the end, she had to throw it into the trash herself.
No one cared, no one was concerned, so why bother being sad alone.
Gu Yan, this is not your loss, it’s a chance for you to see someone clearly again and again.
If you pull yourself away now, it might not be too late.
The cake fell into the trash, and she lowered her eyelids slightly, hiding the pain in her eyes.
Returning to the villa, Tang Yuxiu was still standing in the same place, straight as a rod, lost in thought.
Gu Yan didn’t want to look at him any longer, she walked past him to the bathroom to get a mop to clean the cream left on the floor.
After tidying up, she silently put away the mop after washing it in the bathroom, then headed to the kitchen to start making breakfast.
Originally, she did not want to make Tang Yuxiu’s portion, but after some reflection, she became more aware of her role.
As a kept woman, how could she dare to throw a tantrum at her benefactor by not cooking for him.
So, she coldly prepared two breakfasts, set them on the dining table, and lightly called out to him.
Tang Yuxiu heard her call him, and the heart that had sunk to the bottom of the canyon rose slightly, she hadn’t completely hardened.
Sitting across from her, she kept her head down, focusing on her breakfast, while he glanced carefully at her a few times, eating without enthusiasm.
They hadn’t sat together for a meal in many days; he found himself surprisingly nostalgic for such a simple moment.
"Why don’t you ask me why I didn’t come back last night?"
He couldn’t help but break the silence, though it seemed like the worst possible choice to start.
Tang Yuxiu felt another wave of frustration.
Gu Yan followed his words and asked calmly, "Why?"
Tang Yuxiu didn’t know how to answer.
"Nothing much."
After a pause, he explained, "I drank too much and couldn’t come back."
"Oh."
She remained unreactive, her response seemed more like a routine duty.
Tang Yuxiu couldn’t help feeling frustrated; he had already lowered himself to initiate conversation, yet she still acted indifferent, he was uncomfortable.
He didn’t want to admit that a large part of it was because he feared she would remain cold towards him, that they would continue like this.
To him, it was a form of torture.
"Gu Yan, you have no right to give me attitude or be cold to me!" Tang Yuxiu said in a deep voice.
Gu Yan’s movement of eating paused, then she very calmly finished the bite in her mouth, took a sip of milk, and looked up at him, "However you want me to be towards you, just say the word, and I’ll do it."
Tang Yuxiu listened to her words, looking at her expression, along with the regret swelling within him right after saying that, his heart felt pricked by countless tiny needles, not very painful, yet unbearable!
The small pinpricks, the barely noticeable wounds, gradually filled his whole heart, which was in tatters.
"Gu Yan, I..." For the first time in his life, Tang Yuxiu didn’t know how to face someone.
Clearly, he didn’t want things to be this way, yet he ended up doing the most hurtful things.
"Take your time to think, let me know when you’ve figured it out, so I can follow your wishes."
"Gu Yan, must you be like this!"
"Otherwise, what do you want? Isn’t it good to follow your requirements? Or are you saying you want me to play it by ear?"
Tang Yuxiu pressed his lips together, his grip on the utensils seemed strong enough to break them, his hand tensed with veins popping.
Gu Yan looked at his demeanor with indifference and nodded to herself, "Fine, then I’ll play it by ear."
She set down her utensils, stood up, bypassed the table, went in front of him, and lowered her head to look at him.
He looked up, unsure of her intentions.
The hand by Gu Yan’s side clenched and relaxed quietly, and finally, she bent down, leaning in swiftly and closely towards him.
She was afraid that if she slowed down or paused, she wouldn’t be able to follow through.
A soft sensation touched his lips; Tang Yuxiu froze, not expecting her to do this.
He couldn’t help being angry, thinking, in her heart, was this all he wanted?
