Chapter 393: Chapter 393: The Script Without a Male Lead
Chestnut didn’t speak; she just opened the script, and holy smokes, the storyline had been changed beyond recognition, looking like an entirely new script.
With a mix of laughter and tears, Xiao Qing said, "What’s the deal with this script?"
Chestnut shook her head, helpless, "This is the script we just got this morning. I heard someone has more say than you do." With that, she subtly gestured towards Tan Biyang, who wasn’t far away.
Xiao Qing looked in the indicated direction and saw Tan Biyang speaking to the director, visibly emotional, while the director appeared resigned.
Two meters from Tan Biyang, a tall figure stood quietly, watching their interaction. Sensing her gaze, he looked in Xiao Qing’s direction.
Unable to avoid his gaze, Xiao Qing smiled and greeted him, only to find the man walking towards her.
"Actress Xiao, what do you think about this new script?"
"Yang Zi, you can just call me Xiao Qing."
Yang Zi smiled, his grin shining like the winter sun and dazzling Xiao Qing’s eyes.
"Xiao Qing, I just want to know what you think about the new script not having a male lead."
"No male lead?"
Xiao Qing had only skimmed the script briefly and hadn’t noticed the details. She was quite surprised when Yang Zi told her that the new script didn’t have a male lead.
In this day and age, isn’t watching TV all about eye candy and handsome young actors?
She couldn’t help but question if the man who altered the script had a problem in his head or if he was so rich that he didn’t care whether the show made money or not?
New City Entertainment’s higher-ups had just gone through a major shake-up, and Xiao Qing didn’t dare to conclude; she just spoke one-sidedly: "This idea is unprecedented, I think the screenwriter is extraordinarily bold."
In the office of Kairun Group’s president, Lu Jinyang sneezed several times in a row. He stopped his work and sent Leng Yixing to buy a box of cold medicine.
Yang Zi suddenly laughed, "Xiao Qing, you really are amusing."
"You flatter me. I spent a lot of time joking with kids, so I naturally developed this way of speaking. I hope you don’t mind."
Yang Zi chuckled without a word. An image of a lively face flashed through his mind, and his eyes deepened as he said to Xiao Qing, "Since I don’t have any scenes, I’ll just have to enjoy the compensation for breach of contract from the company. Good luck to you."
After Yang Zi left, Chestnut came over to her and said, "I’ve heard that both Yang Zi and Yang Qiao are famously aloof in the entertainment industry, but to my surprise, he actually initiated a conversation with you."
Yang Qiao aloof?
Xiao Qing chuckled and said, "Let’s go over there and take a look at the script." She was actually quite curious about how they were going to film this show without a male lead.

New City Entertainment had just changed its management and was so swamped with tasks that it was impossible to focus. As the general manager of New City Entertainment, without a president above or a cooperative secretary below, Gu Chen was about to go mad.
He had worked overtime until the early hours of the morning and then went straight to sleep in the manager’s office. Waking up this morning, he plunged back into the busy work, forcibly pulling himself back into the swing of things after years of rest.
Just then, the phone on his desk rang. He sighed and picked up the call.
A voice tinged with tears came through, "General Manager Gu, this show simply can’t be filmed. I’ve been in the industry for so long and have never seen a show with no male lead. You see..."
Gu Chen recalled that there was indeed a show where the male lead had been dropped.
But he wasn’t the one who made that change to the male character’s role, so he was at a loss. Thinking of that man glaring at him with predatory eyes, he shuddered and said into the phone, "Just film it according to the instructions; film it well, and you won’t have your salary docked even if it loses money."
