A pillar of light shot up from the ground. Lin Xiao Tian looked down, seeing the depths of Black Mountain clearly for the first time. It turned out there were quite a few demonic beasts here, an entire kingdom of them.
Several red dragons charged towards him, their scorching dragon flames like a miniature sun. Fortunately, the pillar of light blocked them. Otherwise, an attack of this magnitude would have instantly finished Lin Xiao Tian.
Not long after, Lin Xiao Tian felt the world go black. When light reappeared, he was in a forest.
He carefully sensed his surroundings and found that the spiritual energy here was extremely abundant. It was clear this must be the destination of the teleportation array.
The Lin family's ancient texts did not contain detailed information about this world, so Lin Xiao Tian had no idea where he was. However, within his senses, he detected the presence of humans.
Without any hesitation, Lin Xiao Tian flew towards that location.
Meanwhile, in another part of the forest.
"Miss, you go first. Among these demon wolves, there’s one at the peak of the Qi Refining stage. We might not make it out today, but you must survive. You are the hope of our family. This old servant will give his life to ensure you escape."
The speaker was an old man, covered in wounds. The most terrifying was a claw mark across his chest, which had nearly broken all his ribs.
Despite being a cultivator, he could not last long with such injuries, especially with a pack of demon beasts behind him.
Those beasts were called Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves, already difficult to deal with. Moreover, the scent of blood would ignite their ferocity, making them forget pain. Without reinforcements, death was their only prospect.
"Old Xu, you must hold on!"
Tears welled up in the young lady's eyes.
She knew Old Xu would not survive this.
Although he was just a servant, he had taken care of her since childhood, and their bond was deep.
Yet, she dared not hesitate when facing Old Xu's words.
Old Xu was creating an opportunity for her by risking his life, and she had to seize it.
If she could reach the family and rally reinforcements, perhaps Old Xu could be saved.
Of course, given Old Xu's current condition, even with reinforcements, only a corpse might be recovered.
Perhaps not even a corpse!
The young lady wiped her tears and quickly fled into the distance.
The demon wolves naturally would not let her go, their claws and fangs bared as they charged. But Old Xu and the other cultivators resisted desperately, preventing the demon wolves from catching her for the moment.
If nothing unexpected happened, the young lady would escape.
But the unexpected did happen.
Just as the young lady was about to break free from the wolf pack's encirclement, a wolf's howl alerted everyone.
From the outer edge of the encirclement, a gray Bloodthirsty Demon Wolf appeared in sight.
"This... another demon wolf at the peak of the Qi Refining stage!"
Old Xu uttered this with despair.
One demon wolf at the peak of the Qi Refining stage had already forced them to fight for their lives; with another, they had no chance of survival.
The young lady's heart sank with the appearance of the wolf.
Awoo!
The surrounding wolves howled, seemingly celebrating the success of their hunt.
Humans, as the paramount of all beings, were a rare delicacy even if these individuals were not particularly strong. Human flesh and blood offered significant boosts to demonic beasts, accelerating their cultivation.
"Damn beasts, we'll fight them to the end!"
Old Xu roared, encouraging the others for a final struggle.
But before he could finish speaking, a sharp claw pierced his chest.
Old Xu's eyes widened, and he finally fell into a pool of blood.
With the strongest among them, Old Xu, dead, the others lost all will to fight and began to scatter, which only made the demon wolves' hunt easier.
Amidst screams of agony, the young lady's escorts dwindled.
Her face was already ashen. She could do nothing now.
"Mother, your daughter cannot avenge you this time."
The young lady closed her eyes in despair.
The deafening roars of the demon wolves and the screams of humans filled the air.
After an unknown period, a sudden silence fell upon the surroundings.
The young lady frowned. She realized she felt no pain.
Was this what death felt like?
She had thought it would hurt!
Just then, a voice reached her ears.
The young lady woodenly opened her eyes and saw a handsome young man before her.
He spoke in a language she didn't recognize, with a heavy accent.
The young lady didn't understand what he was saying, but she looked around and saw the previously roaring demon wolf pack baring their teeth at her, yet none dared to approach.
Beside the man lay the severed head of the peak Qi Refining stage demon wolf that had killed Old Xu. It was now beside Old Xu's body.
Although the young lady didn't understand what had happened, she could guess from the way others looked at the man.
"You saved me?" the young lady asked.
But the man still spoke in his incomprehensible accent, making it impossible for her to communicate.
"My name is Xu Lin Yin. What is yours?"
...
Lin Xiao Tian was speechless.
The first challenge upon arriving in this world had appeared: he had no idea what they were saying.
The ancient texts left by the Lin family never mentioned that a foreign language was spoken here!
With no other choice, he could only resort to actions.
He had just slain one of the leaders of the beast pack, a peak Qi Refining stage demon wolf. His next target was the second.
As a newcomer, Lin Xiao Tian didn't want to reveal too much. This time, he concealed his strength to the Foundation Establishment stage.
A Foundation Establishment cultivator killing Qi Refining stage demon wolves? That seemed reasonable, right?
To prove this point, he demonstrated it then and there.
In just a few seconds, the surrounding demon wolves were all dealt with by Lin Xiao Tian.
He had encountered Bloodthirsty Demon Wolves in the Divine Farmer's Medical Codex. They were demonic beasts that entered a state of mandatory frenzy upon tasting blood. This would force their combat power to nearly double, but their weakness was also obvious: once in a frenzy, they had no sense of self-preservation.
This saved Lin Xiao Tian a lot of trouble.
After finishing off the demonic beasts, Lin Xiao Tian looked back at the young lady. He guessed she was likely the highest-ranking person among them.
"Where is this place?" Lin Xiao Tian asked.
Xu Lin Yin blinked, not understanding what he was saying and could only look at Lin Xiao Tian awkwardly.
Lin Xiao Tian, helpless, resorted to gestures. "I want to leave here. Can you help guide me?"
This forest was truly vast. Lin Xiao Tian couldn't sense its end. Now, he could only rely on these people.
Finally, after a difficult period of communication, Lin Xiao Tian finally gained Xu Lin Yin's understanding.
Xu Lin Yin and her group were responsible for leading the way, with Lin Xiao Tian following behind.
The others in the group began to whisper amongst themselves. Just then, a short man with shifty eyes approached Xu Lin Yin.
"Miss, I suddenly remembered a legend," the short man said, looking at Xu Lin Yin. "Do you think... could he be 'that' person?"
Xu Lin Yin blinked, instinctively looking at Lin Xiao Tian behind her. "Who is 'that' person?"
The short man quickly stopped Xu Lin Yin. "Miss, don't alert him. Have you forgotten the legends of this forest?"
Xu Lin Yin frowned.
She suddenly remembered.
"No way? He's 'that' person?"
The short man smiled. "Miss, with him here, you can surely get your revenge!"
