Chapter 52 The Trap

"These bugs dared to attack the police intranet, how audacious!"

Wang Desheng, the team leader, slammed the table in anger and looked at his colleagues from the technical department. "Can they hack into the intranet?"

"Based on their intrusion methods, it will only take an hour to break through our precinct's intranet server! The person operating behind the scenes is highly skilled, not just an ordinary hacker!"

The technician, while patching the compromised vulnerabilities, quickly replied to the team leader.

Wang Desheng's expression turned grim. This deliberate targeting suggested a long-planned conspiracy. The harassment incidents were merely a smokescreen; the real objective was to infiltrate the military and police intranet.

"Where are the experts? Weren't they supposed to be on their way?"

"They're downstairs, team leader, arriving any moment!"

As he spoke, a balding middle-aged man and two partially balding young men entered the investigation team's office, escorted by two police officers.

After hearing the technician's description, Expert Wu sat down at the computer and began working, his fingers flying across the keyboard to block the intrusion. The two partially balding young men were Expert Wu's students, responsible for assisting on two other computers.

Meanwhile, Gao Fei, who had just returned to the office, was about to volunteer his services. However, upon seeing that Expert Wu had already effectively halted the intrusion, he stood to the side and observed the operation.

"By the way, Xiao Gao, you're in the computer science department, can you understand the expert's operations?" Yao Qiang suddenly remembered Gao Fei's university major, paused slightly, then chuckled, "Oh right, you've all been in military training since the semester started, you haven't even attended classes yet."

However, Gao Fei didn't rush to reveal his hacking skills and instead countered, "Major Yao, the group of bugs has now shifted their target to the police department. Has the military's intranet server managed to block the hacker's attack?"

"Yes, the military has its own talents. Students from National Defense University are not to be trifled with; it will take them a long time to attack," Yao Qiang explained.

As they spoke, Gao Fei frowned while watching Expert Wu operate.

"The expert has fallen into a trap!" he murmured softly. Yao Qiang looked confused. "What do you mean, Xiao Fei?"

"The intrusion just now was a feint; this is the real invasion!"

As his words fell, Expert Wu, who had been blocking the intrusion, looked back. Noticing Gao Fei in his training uniform and Major Yao beside him, he frowned with displeasure, but still spoke with a smile, "Young man, don't pretend to know what you don't. I've already perfected the firewall vulnerabilities. Even if they try to hack tens of thousands of times, they won't be able to break through the firewall I've just perfected!"

As the expert spoke, the student assistants responsible for auxiliary work also turned to look. Noticing it was Gao Fei, who had been in the spotlight recently, the assistants immediately smiled and chimed in, "Junior Gao Fei, in the field of computer science, Teacher Wu Bin is a top expert from our Qing University. With the other side's petty tricks, they can't trouble Teacher Wu."

"Junior Gao, you are excellent, but everyone has their specialty. Teacher Wu's computer skills are number one at Qing University, and he has already blocked the opponent's attack. This is a fact!" The words of the two student assistants were somewhat fawning. After all, Expert Wu was their advisor, and their graduation or postgraduate studies would depend on his approval.

Gao Fei, who had been challenged, did not show any displeasure. Instead, he said seriously, "It's true that Teacher Wu has perfected the vulnerabilities, but you haven't detected the traces of the opponent's intrusion. This is a big problem!"

The questioned Wu Bin did not speak further. He did not want to argue with a young man who knew nothing about computers. The two assistants, however, glanced at Gao Fei and began scanning for computer viruses using the antivirus software they had developed.

"Idiot!" Gao Fei cursed inwardly, his expression quite grim. Wang, the team leader, and others stood by, watching the four argue, unable to interject as they were not computer majors and had nothing to contribute. The police department's technical personnel also remained silent, as the depth of the problem was beyond their reach, so they could only watch.

Yao Qiang noticed Gao Fei's increasingly grim expression and asked, "Xiao Fei, isn't the computer operating normally? Is there still a problem?"

"Major Yao, the excitement is about to begin!" Gao Fei did not explain but pointed to the computer. Yao Qiang followed his gaze. The computer was being scanned by the antivirus software written by Expert Wu; there was nothing exciting about it. But in the next second, the computer screen suddenly lagged, then went black. Following that, a white skull suddenly appeared on the screen, accompanied by bursts of eerie laughter from the speakers.

Expert Wu, who had been relaxed and had dismissed Gao Fei's words as wind, suddenly changed his expression. He sat up straight and quickly typed on the keyboard. Everyone stared, stunned, at the white skull that appeared on the computer screen.

"What's going on? Didn't you block the intrusion?"

"Yes, Expert Wu said just now that he had fixed the vulnerabilities, so how could this strange thing suddenly appear?"

"This white skull is a virus! Those who invaded the server left it behind at some point!"

Upon hearing that the white skull was a computer virus, Wang, the team leader, and the others' faces turned pale. The police intranet contained a lot of important data. Now that it was infected with a virus, it meant the data would be lost. Expert Wu and his two student assistants were in a frenzy dealing with the virus; they hadn't expected the other party to deliberately leave a virus behind.

Gao Fei, standing at the back, walked to a computer not connected to the intranet, sat down, and said to Yao Qiang beside him, "Major Yao, find me a USB drive!"

"What are you going to do?"

"Make an antivirus program!"

After speaking, Gao Fei fell silent. His eyes were fixed on the computer screen, and his fingers flew across the keyboard. With the top-tier hacker skills provided by the simulator and decades of life experience, the moment he sat down at the computer, various programming codes appeared in Gao Fei's mind. The opponent's virus intrusion was child's play in his eyes.

Tap! Tap! Tap! Tap!

His fingers danced rapidly. Lines of programming code appeared swiftly. A few minutes later, Gao Fei clicked save, changed the format, and a temporarily written antivirus program was successfully created. He saved the antivirus program onto the USB drive and approached the computer controlling the intranet. He grabbed Expert Wu and moved him aside.

"Hey, hey, hey, what are you doing!" Expert Wu, suddenly pulled aside, was completely bewildered. Seeing Gao Fei sitting in his place, he rushed forward and forcefully pushed him, "Get up quickly! If the entire police department's computers are infected by the virus now, all the data will be gone! Get out of the way!"

But Gao Fei ignored him. He sat down, inserted the USB drive, and began writing program code.

"Hurry and take him away! This brat who doesn't understand anything is just causing trouble. Captain Wang, quickly take him away!" Expert Wu shouted anxiously. He was in the middle of writing antivirus programming code and was very anxious about being interrupted. Just as he was about to instruct his two assistant students to take Gao Fei away, one of the students pointed at the computer and said, "Teacher, Gao Fei has successfully cleared the virus!"

Expert Wu froze and looked at the computer. The skull had completely disappeared, and the eerie laughter was no longer heard.

"This... what's going on?" he murmured to himself. Gao Fei, while typing on the computer, said, "I already warned you that the opponent's intrusion was a trap, but you didn't want to listen!" With that, he turned to Yao Qiang and Wang, the team leader. "Leaders, please prepare to contact our colleagues in Haicheng, Shenzhen, and Lan city. After I reinforce the firewall, I will quickly track them down."

As his voice fell, Gao Fei entered his zone, reinforcing the firewall while writing anti-tracking programs. Watching the lines of code quickly written on the computer screen, Expert Wu was deeply shocked. He knew that Gao Fei was creating an anti-tracking program, but his speed astonished him. He felt as if Gao Fei's mind was a high-speed running computer, writing programming code without needing to think.

After completing the anti-tracking program, he began creating a virtual firewall and simultaneously said to Expert Wu, "Teacher Wu, please help. Lead your students to follow their previous attack route and help me buy time!"

"Okay!" Expert Wu's earlier frustration was gone. He followed Gao Fei's instructions and led his students in helping to buy time.

When Battalion Commander Huang and the director entered the office and saw Gao Fei sitting at the main computer, directing the experts they had invited, everyone looked puzzled.

"What's going on? Why is a student directing the experts?" Wang, the team leader, who had witnessed the entire process, stepped forward and recounted what had happened. Upon learning that Gao Fei had resolved the intentionally left virus and was now leading Expert Wu in preparing to track down the culprits, Battalion Commander Huang and the others were shocked again. Even Li Changhuang, the person in charge of military training, looked bewildered. Although Gao Fei was a computer science major, he hadn't attended any classes. How had he suddenly become a top hacker capable of surpassing experts? Everyone was filled with questions. They could only find the answers after the incident was resolved.

At this moment, with Expert Wu assisting, Gao Fei had completed both the virtual firewall and the anti-tracking program.

"Teacher Wu, stop the tracking!" he said. As his voice fell, the teacher and his three students immediately stopped.

Seeing Gao Fei suddenly open the firewall publicly, Expert Wu anxiously said, "Xiao Gao, what are you doing? Why are you directly exposing the intranet server's firewall?"

"Don't worry, this is a false firewall I temporarily created. As soon as they attack again, we can catch them!"

Wang, the team leader, and the others looked confused. "Will they attack again?"

"We just cleared the virus. The other side will definitely attack again. According to a hacker's mentality, they will want to compete with me!" Gao Fei explained with a smile. The skull virus was indeed created by a formidable individual. If he hadn't acquired the top hacker profession, everyone would have been helpless against them tonight. With the virus cleared, the opposing hacker would surely return. Based on decades of hacking experience provided by the life simulator, Gao Fei was certain the opponent would not give up. Now, the bait was set; all that was left was to wait for the fish to bite. Sting operation, commence!
