Chapter 596: Chapter 596: This Is a Family Matter
As she fixed the long hair pressed under her collar, Ann Vaughn walked out, only to see Miyi Yates standing in front of Cyrus Hawthorne’s desk.
She suddenly narrowed her eyes.
What did Cyrus mean by this?
Did he want to enjoy the pleasure of having two lovers at once?
Bah!
The anger in Ann Vaughn’s heart flared up to her head, scorching her rationality in an instant. She suddenly slammed the coat in her hand onto Cyrus Hawthorne’s desk.
It immediately made a "bang" sound!
Miyi Yates, who was waiting quietly on the side, frowned, feeling a bit displeased.
Doesn’t she know that the Family Head doesn’t like to be disturbed during work?
Cyrus Hawthorne, who was processing an urgent document, glanced at the coat, then looked up at Ann Vaughn, filled with fury not far away, and frowned lightly, "Don’t like it?"
Don’t like it?
Who could like their husband cheating on them, and doing it so brazenly!?
Misunderstanding the situation, Ann Vaughn’s eyes were blazing as she quickly and clearly questioned, "Cyrus Hawthorne, I ask you, what is our relationship?"
Seeing her strange demeanor and slightly trembling fingers, Cyrus Hawthorne’s frown deepened, "Husband and wife."
"So you do know we’re a couple." Ann Vaughn suppressed the desolation in her eyes, and, no longer willing to endure, poured out all her grievances and repression: "Then when you’re fooling around with her in this office, did you ever think that’s cheating!"
Her words were direct and rough, making Miyi Yates’s face change slightly.
Ann Vaughn’s eyes had a tinge of red at the corners, her lips pressed tightly together, refusing to lower her head, stubbornly meeting Cyrus Hawthorne’s deep gaze.
From the moment she spoke, Cyrus had sensed something wrong with her mood.
After hearing the word "cheating," his expression turned as dark and gloomy as storm clouds.
If there weren’t outsiders present, it’s likely Ann Vaughn’s butt would not have been spared.
But this incident allowed a reason for the abnormalities Ann Vaughn had shown these past few days to emerge.
Before Cyrus could speak, Miyi Yates quickly explained to Ann Vaughn: "Miss Vaughn, you misunderstood. I was just delivering medicine to the Family Head that night. Worried, I stayed in the office on the sofa all night. The marks on my neck were scratches I accidentally made, twisted by the marketing accounts."
"You might not believe me, but please trust the Family Head’s sincere intentions for you. There’s nothing between us, absolutely no ambiguity!"
Her voice was firm with a blend of softness and convincing power.
The last sentence, especially, was genuinely moving, making it impossible to fault her as she spoke with regards to the relationship between Ann Vaughn and Cyrus Hawthorne.
Ann Vaughn looked calmly at Miyi Yates, clearly stating, "Sorry, Miss Yates, we are dealing with family issues here."
As the last words fell, the man’s stern expression relaxed a bit.
Miyi Yates’s genuine expression slightly stiffened, but she quickly regained her smile, "I spoke too much, I’ll head out now."
Finishing her words, Miyi Yates turned and walked out.
The office now only had Ann Vaughn and Cyrus Hawthorne, facing each other.
"You owe me an explanation." Ann Vaughn’s skirt swept lightly as she walked to stand before Cyrus, one hand supporting on the table, the other clutching his tie, her bright eyes calm, "Nothing you want to say?"
The red dress made her skin look even whiter and more delicate, her beauty unmatched, her eyes sparkling, while the hint of charm at the eyes’ edge made her as alluring as a fairy.
Even angry, there was a touch of vibrant emotion.
Watching her, the frost in Cyrus Hawthorne’s narrow eyes did not melt; his thin lips curled coldly.
He tugged gently, pulling her soft waist, forcing her into his embrace.
Ann Vaughn initially intended to retaliate but remembered Miyi Yates had said she had come to deliver medicine, meaning he might still be injured now.
In just those few seconds of hesitation, Cyrus already regained the upper hand.
"A man’s tie shouldn’t be touched casually, understand?" His low, hoarse voice sounded in her ear, warm breath brushing over her skin, sending a shiver through her.
Ann Vaughn irritatedly released his tie, "Who wants to hear that!?"
If he doesn’t tease her one day, would he die?
Cyrus Hawthorne gently stroked Ann Vaughn’s dark hair falling over her shoulders, his tone slightly nonchalant: "The only person with me that night was Lucas Kane."
"You—" Ann Vaughn faltered, "You and Dr. Kane wouldn’t..."
"Get rid of those unrealistic ideas in your head," Cyrus coldly stated: "Don’t you know my sexual orientation?"
Probably no one knows better than Ann Vaughn.
She was just saying it casually...
Ann Vaughn shrank her neck, her aggression halved, "Then why was there a photo of her coming to your company late at night and not leaving until the next day?"
Cyrus slightly furrowed his brows, looking at her with cool eyes, "Am I so idle?"
Meaning he didn’t have any earthly time to be concerned about such trivial matters.
Instantly, the unsettled air in Ann Vaughn’s heart was calmed.
She may be angry, but she isn’t completely irrational.
If he truly had something or intended to develop something with Miyi Yates, there’s no need for him to explain.
Moreover... she didn’t possess any value worth him deliberately weaving lies to deceive her with.
"Wait, then why did your secretary tell me you went out?" Suddenly remembering this, Ann Vaughn furrowed her brows, pondering momentarily, "You must have been badly injured and didn’t want me to see, right?"
One has to admit, a woman’s intuition can sometimes be alarmingly accurate.
Cyrus’s expression remained calm, "Discussing important matters. Even if it were grandpa, it’d be the same."
Ann Vaughn’s eyes suddenly understood.
So it wasn’t aimed at her...
While she was distracted, Cyrus suddenly pinched her chin with his long fingers, his faintly cold voice carrying a hint of danger, "Now that your account is settled, it’s my turn."
"Wha... what?" Looking into his deep, dark eyes like a cold pool, a shiver ran down Ann Vaughn’s heart for no reason.
With the misunderstanding cleared up, isn’t everyone happy?
Why does she feel so uneasy inside?
Soon Ann Vaughn understood why.
"Pa, pa, pa!"
Three crisp sounds rang consecutively in the office.
Forced to flip over, Ann Vaughn, half-lying across the man’s thighs, suddenly froze all over.
Immediately, all her blood rushed to her head, and her face turned so red it was about to drip blood!
"Cyrus Hawthorne!!"
"You actually spanked me!"
"I’ve never been hit there by anyone before! How dare you hit me!!"
Ann Vaughn struggled with embarrassment and anger, furiously getting up to hit Cyrus, "You’re too much! I’m going to sue you for domestic violence!"
That slight pain was magnified several times in Ann Vaughn’s heart due to the shame, almost setting her entire body ablaze!
Cyrus opened his arms, embracing the charging Ann Vaughn fully, his voice extremely calm and serious, "Hawthorne Corp.’s legal team is very strong."
