Chapter 594: Looking Down on Ann Vaughn

Chapter 594: Chapter 594: Looking Down on Ann Vaughn

As she turned to leave, she said to Ann Vaughn with an indifferent tone, "Your son or going home, you choose."

Ann Vaughn: ?? Is this a threat?

Her lips twitched, and after only hesitating for a few seconds, she picked up her handbag and got out of the car to follow.

At the same time.

Inside the VIP ward at First Hospital.

Had Henry Hawthorne not seen it with his own eyes, he would never have believed what Old Master Hawthorne had told him was true.

The Laura Quinn before him was the real Laura Quinn. The previous one... was actually an imposter!

"You... are really Laura?" Henry Hawthorne sat in the wheelchair, looking at Laura Quinn with a dazed expression. The unfamiliarity and alienation he had felt with Wanda Chamberlain suddenly vanished.

Henry had watched Laura grow up and had long regarded her as his own daughter.

But after returning to the country this time, and meeting Wanda Chamberlain posing as Laura Quinn, he had felt extremely disappointed.

As a child, Laura was so bright and adorable; over the years she’d become so fake and greedy, her eyes filled with calculation.

Henry was both angry and helpless. He mistakenly thought she had become like this because of Ann Vaughn, and even purposely made things difficult for Ann to vent for her.

Who would have thought he had been deceived by an imposter all along!

Once bitten by a snake, he’s scared of a rope for ten years; naturally, Henry was suspicious of this Laura Quinn before him as well.

Laura gave a slight smile without speaking, instead reaching a hand behind her ear.

Then, with a forward tug of her fingers, she peeled away a mask as thin as a cicada’s wing from her face!

Her entire face was completely exposed to the air.

"You—" Henry’s eyes widened in shock, his breath growing unsteady as if frightened, yet his eyes were filled with unstoppable concern, "How did you end up like this?!"

Laura was not surprised by Henry’s reaction. She knew that with her current appearance, even a small child would be frightened to tears upon seeing her.

When Wanda pushed her into the sea, she barely escaped with her life, but her face and body had been scraped raw by the rocks under the sea, even though the wounds had healed.

Yet, those scars would forever remain on her face and body.

She did not have the confidence to return to the Hawthorne Family with this face, so she commissioned someone to custom-make a mask to restore her appearance.

"You see, this scar on my forehead came from being so excited about receiving your gift that I accidentally fell on the stairs as a child." Laura pointed to the shallow scar on her forehead, smiling as she spoke.

Only Laura’s family and Henry knew about this; if she were the imposter, she’d never be able to find out such an old story.

Henry’s eyes immediately welled up with tears, "Child, you’ve had such a hard time all these years..."

Laura shook her head, "I was born having everything I wanted. My parents treated me as a Princess for over twenty years. After marrying into the Hawthorne Family, Sudia treated me exceedingly well, and Father cared a lot for me... but no one can be lucky forever."

"Whether it’s bitter or sweet depends on how I choose to see it."

Upon hearing her words, Henry felt somewhat relieved.

Yet, when he thought of Wanda, Henry was still filled with deep hatred and wished he could drag her to Laura’s parents’ graves to make her repent properly!

"Even as sisters, the difference between Wanda and you is so stark." Henry shook his head, sighing helplessly.

Laura’s gaze shifted slightly, "You probably don’t know that even though Wanda and I are twins, after we were born, our family’s economic conditions only allowed for raising one child, so one of us had to be given to the orphanage."

"Both children were dearly cherished. If it weren’t absolutely necessary, my parents would never have made such a decision." Laura said with a bitter smile, "They used a draw to decide, and I was the one kept by their side."

"Later, as things improved at home, my parents asked someone to find Wanda without success until I ran into her by accident and brought her home."

"I originally thought Wanda was accidentally lost, but after overhearing my parents’ conversation, I realized it wasn’t the case... Initially, I didn’t like Wanda much, but after learning the truth, I felt guilty and always thought about how to make it up to her."

What Laura hadn’t anticipated was that her patience and compensation had only fueled Wanda’s resentment and ambition, ultimately leading to harm for herself.

After listening, Henry let out a heavy sigh, "It’s not your fault; you don’t need to blame yourself."

Laura put her mask back on her face, laughing self-mockingly, "I don’t have much time left to live, so naturally, I won’t trouble myself over irrelevant people. It’s just... I still can’t stop worrying about Cian."

"What’s there to worry about Cian?"

"To not hide the truth, I’m rather dissatisfied with Ann Vaughn as a daughter-in-law." Laura criticized with a frown, "Cian is the head of the Hawthorne Family. Even if his wife cannot be of equal status, at least she should come from an eminent family."

"But have you considered that with Cian’s current status, he doesn’t need his wife’s background to add to his prestige. Ann Vaughn’s character and capabilities are both commendable, worthy of being the mistress of the Hawthorne Family."

Henry stated earnestly.

Although he had intentionally made things difficult for Ann Vaughn, he truly acknowledged her abilities in his heart.

The most crucial thing was that Cyrus Hawthorne loved her.

And that counted for everything.

However, Laura didn’t see it that way, "He’s so young, how many women has he experienced, how much experience does he have? Maybe this is just a passing fancy. When time passes and he realizes Ann Vaughn isn’t that suitable, it will be too late."

"Then who do you think is the most suitable for Cian?"

"I think Miya Yates is a good choice. No matter her family background, personal ability, or character, she complements Cian very well." Laura nodded approvingly, "More importantly, she pleases my eye."

Was this to say Ann Vaughn doesn’t meet her eye?

Henry sighed, "What’s the use of pleasing your eye, what matters is Cian’s thoughts."

Laura stubbornly said, "I don’t have much time left. Before I die, I just want to see Miya and Cian together, so I can rest easy."

Henry himself had a high regard for Miyi Yates, and as Laura criticized, indeed, Miyi Yates in every aspect seemed to be the best match for Cyrus Hawthorne.

Thus convinced by Laura, he felt even more swayed in his mind.

What they didn’t realize was that the door to the ward, cracked slightly open, quietly shut.

Miyi Yates stood at the entrance, a satisfied smile forming on her lips as she turned and left with the tonic in hand.

Just then, her phone suddenly vibrated, and Miyi Yates had to stop to check, her smile widening.

The message was from a group within Hawthorne Group’s internal chat.

[Breaking news! President Hawthorne has brought the First Lady and the little prince to the company!!]

[Unbelievable! Not to complain, but isn’t this family’s attractiveness a bit excessive? Give us normal folks a break!]
