Chapter 352: Chapter 352: Am I Really That Unworthy of Your Trust?
Ann suddenly felt her throat getting a bit dry as she tried to struggle against the hands he firmly locked down on both sides of her, feeling that the current situation was somewhat dangerous.
"Three and a half."
"Jasper Vaughn."
The deep voice, like the sound of a cello, reached Ann’s ears, accompanied by the faint warmth of his breath, sprayed on her neck.
"If it weren’t for today’s accident, how much longer were you planning to keep it a secret?" His tone turned sharply, unnaturally cold.
Ann’s downcast eyelashes fluttered slightly, her teeth biting her lip until it turned white, unable to utter a word.
His anger was not without reason.
He was Kenny’s biological father, and he should have had the right to know everything, but because of her selfishness and concerns, she would have kept this secret forever if not cornered by Laura Quinn.
But this was something she could never admit.
That’s why Ann, feeling sheepish since a while ago, followed him, leaving Kenny at the dining table unattended.
Seeing her evasive gaze, Cyrus Hawthorne let out a hoarse chuckle from deep in his throat.
"I’ve given you many chances to tell the truth." Cyrus leaned in, his voice deep and cold, "But you didn’t."
Ann felt a chill run down her spine, and as she grasped the meaning behind his words, her gaze turned astonished, "You’ve known I was lying for a long time?"
"That time at the hospital," Cyrus’s lips curled coolly, "your reaction sold you out."
Specifically, since he first saw Kenny at the apartment, he started suspecting.
The little one’s eyebrow shape, lip shape, just like his mommy’s, could be noticed with a little attention.
But considering Ann’s physical condition four years ago, having the child and then undergoing surgery was almost an impossible thing, not to mention her fibroids had already started to worsen, making it impossible to wait until then.
Therefore, he didn’t easily think along those lines.
"..." Ann swallowed hard, inadvertently pressing her lips, accidentally touching his slightly cool fingertips, which immediately threw her heartbeats into chaos.
She never thought he had started suspecting since then; she thought she had acted well, not revealing any flaws.
"Then why didn’t you expose my lie?"
"Heh," Cyrus chuckled lowly, his voice spreading layers of coldness, "I was waiting, waiting for you to tell me everything yourself."
Unfortunately...
Not once did she seize the opportunity, instead choosing to continue deceiving and hiding.
"Am I really that undeserving of your trust? Hmm?"
"No, I just..." Ann caught a flash of melancholy in his eyes, and her heart clenched a bit, a bitter taste filling her mouth, "Do you remember how you reacted when I told you I was pregnant four years ago?"
Without waiting for his response, Ann curved a bitter smile, continuing, "You told me to abort the child."
Cyrus’s breath halted slightly, the large hand propping up by her ear tightening.
"I know you didn’t like this child; his existence might have become an obstruction between you and Cynthia Vaughn back then, and he couldn’t bring you any benefit, so you couldn’t accept him."
"These words have echoed in my mind constantly for four whole years; I haven’t dared to forget them for even a second."
Ann’s eyes turned red, unwaveringly looking at the complex expression of the man in front of her, "Yes, I just couldn’t believe you would accept Kenny, couldn’t believe you would let go of your past prejudices, so I hid it without even thinking."
"Did you really have no clue back then?" he said through clenched teeth, the voice sounded as if squeezed out from his teeth.
"Wh-what?" All Ann felt was a fine pain from her wound.
Cyrus seemed to have reached the end of his patience, not answering her question, he scooped her up and took a few steps to the bed, throwing her onto it.
Her back sunk into the soft bed abruptly, the slight tremor made Ann’s mind go blank for a moment.
When she came back to her senses, Cyrus had already leaned in forward.
He braced himself with one hand beside Ann’s ear, tugged with the other hand slightly to remove his tie, and tossed it aside casually.
"I said, a wrong call once, a punishment once. It seems you didn’t take it to heart."
Hearing these words laden with displeasure, Ann’s body trembled slightly, trying to quickly rectify, "You heard it wrong just now, I called you Quinn!"
It was of no use.
The room kept heating up, the air in the lungs burning scorchingly hot.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, followed by a plaintive little voice.
"Mommy, are you in there? Baby is afraid of the dark alone, doesn’t dare to sleep, boohoo..."
Ann’s body stiffened, her face suddenly turning bright red as if dripping blood, and the watery mist in her eyes regained some clarity.
Damn!
Beauty brings ruin!
