Chapter 370: Chapter 370: Already Divorced Long Ago
On the other side of the single sofa were some ridiculously expensive mechanical toys, remote-controlled drones, and a cool black mini motorcycle...
Laura Quinn sat next to Little Dumpling, lovingly feeding him... mousse cake??
Ann Vaughn frowned slightly, wondering what her intentions were.
"Mommy!" Kenny, surrounded by a pile of things, was troubled about what to do and, seeing his mommy appear in the living room, wanted to jump off the sofa, but Laura Quinn grabbed his arm.
Kenny frowned slightly as Laura Quinn asked him, "Kenny, wasn’t it fun at Grandma’s place? Isn’t it nice to stay here all the time?"
Upon hearing this, Ann Vaughn almost laughed out of anger, never expecting that after being grounded for reflection, Laura Quinn’s face had become even thicker!
She had previously called Kenny a bastard, and now she claimed to be his grandmother. Where’s her face?
"It’s not." Kenny refused without hesitation, "Even if I’m eating chaff and swallowing vegetables next to good people, they taste sweet, but even the most luxurious snacks and toys are just a pile of dirt around bad people."
Laura Quinn’s expression changed, and she gritted her teeth at the sight of Kenny speaking seriously, "You little brat, are you disdainful of Grandma?"
"Kenny doesn’t have a grandmother like you." Ann Vaughn was amused by her little treasure’s words, walked over to pick Kenny up, only to find that Laura Quinn was still holding his arm and wouldn’t let go.
She immediately turned cold, "Let go, or you’ll break your arm!"
Since the last incident, her level of disgust towards Laura Quinn had reached an unprecedented peak.
If she dared to forcibly take Kenny, even if she was Cyrus Hawthorne’s mother, Ann Vaughn would not go easy on her.
"What? I’m the child’s grandmother, and I’m not allowed to bond with my grandson?" Laura Quinn sneered as she let go of his arm, asking the suited man sitting next to her, "Attorney Chambers, do you think I lack this qualification?"
Ann Vaughn then noticed the suited man sitting on the other sofa and, hearing Laura Quinn’s address to him, her brows furrowed even tighter.
"Mrs. Hawthorne is the child’s grandmother, naturally qualified to do so," the man called Attorney Chambers said respectfully, then pulled a stack of documents from his briefcase, "And from a professional standpoint, the child’s custody highly likely will fall into Mr. Hawthorne’s hands, so you needn’t worry."
Upon hearing this, Ann Vaughn’s heart sank, "What do you mean?"
Was Laura Quinn going to fight her for Kenny’s custody? On what grounds?
"It means exactly what you heard." Laura Quinn couldn’t be bothered to maintain a good-grandmother facade any longer and replied directly, "Attorney Chambers, tell her."
"Yes," Attorney Chambers nodded and continued, "Miss, given that you and Mr. Hawthorne have been divorced for four years now..."
Before he could finish, Ann Vaughn interrupted coldly, "What do you mean that Cyrus Hawthorne and I have been divorced for four years?"
Even though her mind was in a chaotic jumble at the moment, Ann Vaughn still forced herself to calm down and work through the key points.
"Fool, you and my son have been divorced for four years now, and you’re no longer related to the Hawthorne Family. Oh, if there’s any relation, it’s only this child!"
"As for you, without that layer of legal guarantee, you’re already as good as a stranger to the Hawthorne Family!"
Laura Quinn’s voice was as sharp and caustic as always, piercing straight into one’s heart.
Ann Vaughn’s eyes flickered for a moment, staring doubtfully at Laura Quinn’s sure and dismissive face as her mind churned through questions and possibilities.
Yet she suddenly realized that Laura Quinn had no reason to deceive her using such a crude lie.
However, she found it absurd.
If she and Cyrus Hawthorne were already divorced four years ago, why did he continue to deceive her after they reunited, saying they had never divorced?
If not that Laura Quinn knew the truth, she wouldn’t have brought an attorney and asserted so confidently that she and Cyrus Hawthorne were already divorced.
As long as she wanted to investigate, she could certainly find out about her current marital status.
But she never thought to check, simply because she trusted Cyrus Hawthorne too much!
"Allow me to add, this Miss has been entangled in scandals recently, which is very unfavorable for your custody battle. I believe the court won’t grant custody to a mother with a chaotic private life," Attorney Chambers said, following Laura Quinn’s direction, "If you voluntarily give up custody, then it would be another..."
Indeed, if it went to court, the recent scandal of "meeting a new boyfriend at night" that Ann Vaughn was embroiled in would sway the judge’s decision towards the other side.
Ann Vaughn suddenly remembered something and looked at Laura Quinn with ice-cold eyes, "Were those reporters arranged by you?"
Laura Quinn let out a mocking laugh, her red-painted nails dragging across her purple fur coat, exuding luxury, "So what if they were?"
"How despicable you are!" Once again, Ann Vaughn’s understanding of Laura Quinn’s schemes was refreshed, "If you really have the guts, let’s face each other in court. I want to see who could take my son away while I’m still alive!"
With that, she turned and walked out determinedly, never looking back for a second.
What Laura Quinn despised most about Ann Vaughn was her unyielding pride, making her want to crush her dignity and trample her underfoot.
"Mrs. Hawthorne, should we still file an appeal?" Attorney Chambers asked.
"Appeal! Why should a child of the Hawthorne Family be left outside?" Laura Quinn responded with a face of frustration and displeasure.
Attorney Chambers said nothing more, and at that moment, footsteps were heard from the stairs.
"But Aunt, if Mr. Hawthorne knew about this, wouldn’t it harm the mother-son relationship once again?" Jane Sheridan gracefully walked into the living room, dressed in an apricot-colored dress, graceful and dignified.
"I’ve already made such a big concession, willing to accept the child back into the Hawthorne Family. Cian won’t stay angry with me," Laura Quinn’s expression softened immediately upon seeing her.
"But as I see, Mr. Hawthorne truly cares for Miss Vaughn. Just like last time, Mr. Hawthorne set aside a billion-dollar deal to support Miss Vaughn at Cloudmere Manor..."
"Cares for?" Laura Quinn’s voice softened, even when sarcastically addressing Jane Sheridan, "Their total time together doesn’t even add up to a year, if he really loved that woman, he wouldn’t have treated her like that back then."
At this point, Laura Quinn, as if seeing through something, continued, "He’s only tolerating that woman for the child’s sake. If we win the child’s custody, their ties will naturally be severed."
Jane Sheridan chuckled lightly, "Aunt really understands Mr. Hawthorne, let’s hope Mr. Hawthorne won’t disappoint your thoughtful efforts."
