Chapter 249: Chapter 249: He’s Investigating Kenny
"Uncle Jennings, you want to know where Mom was last night, right?" Kenny’s cute little face puffed up, "Mom texted this morning saying she went to collect herbs. She’s definitely lying to me."
"How do you know she’s lying?" Sutton Jennings asked with some interest.
"Because whenever Mom can’t find an excuse to fool me, she says she’s going to collect herbs."
Just then, Kenny suddenly felt the mirror in his palm vibrate. The smile on his little face instantly vanished, and he quickly took the mirror out of his pocket.
"Someone’s investigating me." Kenny said, sitting down on a wooden chair downstairs and quickly tapping on the screen.
Sutton Jennings furrowed his brow, watching the little guy operate the screen deftly and quickly, and asked in a low voice, "Is it an enemy?"
"It’s The Archfiend’s people." After discovering the other party’s intent, Kenny propped his little chin in distress, "Strange, why would he suddenly have someone investigate me?"
Last time in the kindergarten, he hadn’t exposed any flaws, and he didn’t seem suspicious either.
Could it be an issue with Mom?
Probably not, Mom is smart enough not to let secrets slip so easily.
Kenny was more inclined to think it was The Archfiend’s own suspicion, but he didn’t know to what extent he was suspicious.
"Your Dad isn’t someone easily fooled. If he starts suspecting you or your mom, even the smallest loophole can lead him to deduce the entire situation."
Sutton Jennings had been opposing Cyrus Hawthorne for so many years, although one was in the open and one in the shadows, when it came to understanding, he understood Cyrus better than any of Cyrus’s rivals.
Kenny nodded in agreement. After so many encounters, he knew how difficult The Archfiend was to deal with.
"It’s okay, his people won’t find out the real information about me and Mom. Without decisive evidence, mere speculation shouldn’t lead him to do anything to us."
"Be cautious during this time, don’t have direct contact with him." Sutton Jennings pondered for a moment and said, "I’ll have someone take care of it, don’t worry."
"Kenny isn’t suited to directly intervene, so I’ll leave it to Uncle Jennings!"
...
In less than a day, Ann Vaughn had already established a relationship with members of Group A and understood the current situation within the group.
Group A is now responsible for researching and analyzing a virus not documented in records, primarily to create an antidote by breaking through the virus’s characteristics.
This was slightly different from what Ann Vaughn initially imagined.
Could it be that she misunderstood, and the QY Research Institute wasn’t the culprit behind developing and globally releasing the N3H5 virus?
But this issue still remains questionable.
"Consultant Vaughn, I used to hear that you majored in herbal medicine? Why did you come to our research institute? We all graduated from Western medicine." Belle, who was close to Ann Vaughn, couldn’t help asking her doubt.
Upon hearing the question, Ann Vaughn was initially stunned, then explained, "I studied some basic Western medical courses abroad."
"Which college did you graduate from?"
"Speison, K Country."
"..."
Upon hearing this, the research lab that had previously been whispering fell silent.
That’s one of the world’s top medical schools!
Even Belle seemed to see a ghost, gasping a breath of cold air, "Did you study at Speison for all four years?"
"Not really, my time at school was relatively short." Ann Vaughn shook her head slightly. Initially, she had no intention of further study.
But later, her mentor Professor Lockett recognized her medical skills and wanted to offer her a position to teach herbal medicine in the school.
Yet Ann Vaughn hadn’t been able to graduate smoothly from The Herbalist Hospital before, so she declined Lockett’s suggestion.
Who could have known Lockett was far more persistent than she thought, and actually used the cases she treated over the years to get the principal and board members to agree, granting her both a degree and a diploma.
It wasn’t until Ann Vaughn extracted the virus antidote and wrote a paper on cancer inhibitors that they were truly convinced.
"I heard Speison has very strict management, how did you graduate without being in school often?" someone questioned.
"Maybe I was just lucky." Ann Vaughn didn’t mind and laughed, pulling the information from aside, "Which stage are we at?"
"Third stage, the information you’re holding has detailed records. Our group has been stuck here for two and a half years." Belle passionately explained.
The group members were nearly pulling out their hair over this project, yet the BOSS continued to push insistently.
Ann Vaughn nodded slightly and began to read the material in her hands.
Group A had tentatively named this virus "OX."
More complex than she had imagined, because the virus displays constantly evolving characteristics, making it hard to analyze a final result.
Without results, naturally, you can only be led by the virus, with no way to completely eliminate it.
"Where did the OX virus come from?" Ann Vaughn raised her head to ask Belle after reading the information.
"That isn’t clear, I only know it was brought to the research institute by Special Assistant Joyce. Over two years we’ve created dozens of antidotes, but..."
Belle was interrupted mid-sentence by Jane Sheridan, who appeared suddenly, "Belle, come over here."
Ann Vaughn heard the voice, lifted her gaze towards Jane Sheridan, and saw her expressionless face, her slender brows couldn’t help but slightly knit.
As soon as it reached six o’clock, Ann Vaughn packed up her things and left the research lab.
Since Cyrus Hawthorne mentioned she could manage her own working hours, except for the first day when she stayed longer, she wouldn’t be coming as frequently thereafter.
The issue with OX, she basically had a grasp on it.
Just outside the research institute, Ann Vaughn spotted a black Spyker parked in front.
The driver’s side window slowly rolled down, revealing a flawlessly handsome face.
"Get in." Cyrus Hawthorne’s deep, ocean-like dark eyes lingered on Ann Vaughn momentarily, and he said firmly.
Ann Vaughn hesitated for a few seconds before opening the car door and sitting in the passenger seat. After fastening the seatbelt, she said, "Take me to Azure Gardens, please."
Such a stance of wanting to make it clear that he’s just a driver made Cyrus Hawthorne let out a low laugh from his thin lips.
The magnetic voice seemed to pluck at the heart strings, teasing the heart into subtle tremors.
Ann Vaughn muttered, wondering what she had said that was funny, just as Cyrus Hawthorne suddenly leaned forward, propping one hand on her seat, pushing her straight to the car door!
"What are you doing?" Ann Vaughn’s back was pressed against the car door, her slim fingers unconsciously clenched, and her clear bright eyes filled with alertness as she stared at him.
Cyrus Hawthorne seemed unaware of her resistance, inching closer and decreasing the distance between them until his thin lips were nearly on her lips.
He lowered his gaze to her face, from this angle he could just see her curled eyelashes like butterfly wings fluttering gently, and her rosy lips tightly pursed.
She looked incredibly nervous.
