Chapter 296: Chapter 296: Favoritism
Aaron Linden was physically weak and could only sit in a wheelchair, but upon hearing this, he didn’t reject it at all. Instead, he nodded gently: "Alright, Theodore, I’ll make sure Ivy shines at the celebration event."
Ivy Kensington also smiled a bit: "Thank you, Aunt Linden."
Evening.
The celebration event officially began, and the Ford Family had sent invitations to various prestigious families; prominent figures of upper-class society in Veridia all came to the event.
Ivy Kensington was led by Aaron Linden to change clothes.
"These were all chosen for you. Take a look and pick the one you like, and wear it."
Ivy looked over; the wardrobe was full of haute couture dresses, yet... they were all outdated from years ago!
If she wears these out today, everyone would surely mock her to death.
Aaron Linden saw her silent and thoughtfully asked, "Don’t you like them?"
Ivy shook her head: "No, I like them."
Then, she casually picked a purple-pink gown with a large skirt from among them.
Aaron Linden nodded in satisfaction and let the makeup artist take Ivy Kensington downstairs for makeup.
As she left, Nina Shaw walked in.
"Aunt Linden, what do you think people will react like when Ivy Kensington appears in this dress tonight?"
Nina Shaw’s face bore an air of smugness. Probably everyone would realize that Ivy is just a country bumpkin! This way, she would never be able to integrate into Veridia’s upper-class circles!
Aaron Linden said, "Nina, don’t worry about her. You should focus on winning over Master Blackwood tonight."
Nina instantly replied shyly, "Understood, Aunt Linden."
Tonight, Brother Sebastian was definitely hers; this time, she wouldn’t wait any longer!
Half an hour later, the celebration event began as scheduled.
Theodore Ford led Ivy Kensington by the hand down from the second floor; the purple-pink dress accentuated the already fair as snow skin of the woman, making it appear even more radiant. Everyone was captivated for a moment, then frowned.
"Oh my, this dress is from three years ago. How is she still wearing it?"
"Ivy Kensington is way too shabby, isn’t she?"
"I’ve heard rumors before that Ivy was raised like a servant from a young age; now it seems the rumors don’t lie. She can’t even wear a current season dress, truly laughable."
Everyone whispered among themselves, looking at Ivy Kensington with immediate contempt.
They thought she was formidable, but she couldn’t even discern basic evening wear—truly ridiculous!
Ivy Kensington calmly stepped in front of everyone, not caring about their words.
At this moment, Nina Shaw stepped over; she was wearing a little black dress that was the latest Valentino haute couture of the season. Just by standing there, she made everyone feel Ivy was a little country dog.
"At least Nina has taste; she can tell what is the latest style."
Someone commented again.
Nina Shaw’s expression carried superiority; she pretended to be obedient and handed Ivy Kensington a glass of wine, "Sister, welcome back."
Ivy Kensington smiled and accepted, but—
"Nina, did you get unsteady?"
Nina Shaw looked at the spilled wine on Ivy Kensington, momentarily stunned.
She hadn’t meant to do it on purpose!
Before she could react, Ivy Kensington spoke with an innocent tone, "It’s okay, Aunt Linden gave me a wardrobe full of dresses, many of them in fact. I can wear another one!"
As soon as these words were spoken, the faces of everyone at the celebration event instantly changed.
A wardrobe full of dresses?
Looking again at Ivy Kensington’s outdated dress, the crowd immediately understood.
So Aaron Linden was too stingy, purposefully giving Ivy outdated dresses to choose from!
And looking at Nina Shaw’s latest haute couture, it was all too clear, Aaron Linden was biased!
