Chapter 645: Blizzard: Ice Spear

Castform, a gray body and tiny size. Seeing this adorable creature appear, Bruce turned to look at Terrance.

“Planning to have it showcase your secret technique?”

“Yeah. You can bring out your Abomasnow to watch too,” Terrance replied.

Before seeing Terrance’s true skills, Bruce didn’t say much. After all, he came here for a deal. Rather than doubting Terrance, he hoped Terrance really had skills. This way, once the deal was successfully done, Bruce could benefit even more.

“Come out, Abomasnow.”

Bruce nodded slightly, then summoned a Pokémon whose whole body looked like it was wrapped in snow, with limbs resembling they were covered in plants.

As Abomasnow appeared, a chill instantly spread through the surroundings.

“A normal Abomasnow should be just over two meters tall, but this one…”

It was at least three meters tall, with a massive size that seemed to radiate powerful strength.

In comparison, Terrance’s Castform was barely a tenth of Abomasnow’s size.

“Alright, Abomasnow has suppressed its Snow Warning Ability. Now, let your Castform do the demonstration,” Bruce said.

“Okay.”

Terrance, wearing a confident expression, directly ordered Castform to fly to the center of the field.

The Snow Warning Ability and the move Hail could both change the weather to snowy conditions.

In snowy weather, strong updrafts in the hail clouds cause various sizes of water droplets and ice crystals to move. Some of these droplets and crystals merge and freeze into larger hailstones. These particles and supercooled water droplets are carried by the updrafts into the moisture accumulation zone, forming the core of hail and completely altering the weather.

Generally, moves like Rain Dance, Sandstorm, and Hail, which alter the weather, can only be used by Pokémon to create the weather conditions and do not allow for further control over the weather.

To utilize weather in more ways for their own benefit, they must at least be highly proficient in its use.

Bruce’s Abomasnow hadn’t reached that level yet. It was only using the vast snowy weather to gain basic boosts to its combat power.

It had strength, but no technique.

“Castform, Hail.” As Terrance spoke, Castform emitted a light blue glow. Then, in the blink of an eye, the weather began to change.

The speed at which snowy weather was created made Bruce and Abomasnow’s pupils shrink.

“So fast.” Bruce was shocked. Even though his Abomasnow had the Snow Warning Ability and was more adept with Hail move, it couldn’t match that speed.

As the hail clouds rapidly formed, Bruce and Abomasnow also noticed Castform’s transformation.

With the weather change, its appearance gradually shifted to its Snowy Form – a droplet shape wrapped in snow clouds.

At this moment, Bruce was only surprised by Castform’s speed in creating hail. But as the snowflakes and hail began to fall, he instinctively took a step back.

Castform had used some unknown technique, causing the snowflakes and hail to suddenly freeze in midair. Then, countless snowflakes and hail reversed direction, swirling upward along with a howling blizzard, twisting into a force that created a shocking scene.

The snowy weather was completely under Castform’s control. Countless snowflakes and hailstones condensed into what looked like a continuously spinning ice spear, which then plunged from the sky toward the ground along with the roaring wind!

The ice spear wasn’t particularly fast, but as it descended and spun, it seemed to freeze the surrounding air each second, creating an overwhelming sense of power.

Watching the ice spear falling from the sky and pierce the ground, Bruce and Abomasnow didn’t dare blink, staring intently at the scene.

The immense power of the gathered snow and ice exploded in an instant. Even though Bruce and Abomasnow were standing at a distance, the rushing cold air sent a chill through their entire bodies.

Swish!

The scene they had imagined quickly appeared before their eyes. The ice spear plunged into the ground, instantly piercing a hole through the specially constructed field. In the next second, from the point of impact, a wave of icy power spread outward, rapidly transforming the entire field into a domain of snow and ice.

That icy power even crept up to Bruce’s feet.

Having to exert strength to lift his foot, Bruce revealed a shocked expression. In terms of scale and power, the Hail created by Castform wasn’t much different from what his Abomasnow could produce.

But in terms of control over Hail’s power, one was the heavens, and the other the ground.

“Roar.” Abomasnow let out a surprised growl, looking in astonishment at the tiny Castform.

“This kind of technique mainly controls the snowy weather through air currents,” Terrance walked over, scratching his head as he spoke. “But the training process of how air currents interact with snowy weather has many difficulties. Without a good instructor, it takes a long time of trial and error to master.”

What Terrance had wanted to show Bruce was not the blizzard, but Castform’s ability to control snowy weather!

The former was the result; the latter was the foundation.

Once you master the latter, you gain a much higher level of control over snowy weather.

Of the four major weather-based top-level secret techniques, apart from Rainy Weather and Sunny Weather, Terrance had incorporated the top-tier air current control technique mastered by Beautifly into Snowy Weather and Sandstorm.

Under snowy or sandstorm conditions, as long as the right techniques were learned, his Pokémon could gain perfect control over ice and sandstorms—enhancing moves, causing disruptions, creating barriers, and many more applications. It was no longer about just superficial benefits from the special weather conditions.

Terrance was already considering having Ice Vulpix and Larvitar in Fallarbor Town learn this technique.

By then, Castform and Beautifly would be the best instructors.

The reason Terrance gave Bruce a heads-up was because, without the right instructor, practicing purely based on written descriptions would indeed be extremely difficult and slow-going.

“It’s only natural that this kind of technique is hard to master.” Bruce gazed at the field, a bit amazed as he watched Castform: “The Castform you’ve raised really is outstanding. Would you be interested in having it become Abomasnow’s professional instructor? Name your terms. As part of the exchange, I can prepare all the materials you’ll need for the giant form breeding method.”

After Castform demonstrated its control over snowy weather, both Bruce and Abomasnow were moved. Even though Terrance had shared that the key lay in air current manipulation, practicing that on one’s own would definitely not be easy. Terrance had only been able to piece it together thanks to research from the Weather Institute and years of experience with Beautifly.

Of course, the most powerful methods for amplifying snowy weather also involved the interaction of treasures like “Icy Rock,” “Ice Gem,” and “Never-Melt Ice.” Naturally, Terrance wouldn’t reveal any of that. Likewise, Bruce wasn’t planning to reveal everything on his end either.

After some negotiation, Terrance agreed to provide Bruce basic guidance for a short time.

As for the giant form breeding method, Terrance also learned a bit from Bruce. It mainly involved using special potion and certain balanced diets to enlarge a Pokémon’s body. This method not only caused no harm to Pokémon’s body but actually had notable benefits.

In exchange, Terrance received a supply of special potions for three Pokémon, and Bruce personally selected and prepared matching diets for the three Pokémon Terrance designated.
