Chapter 560 Hope in Heart

His dark, deep eyes stared intently.

The little devil had seen these eyes countless times, accompanied by a gaze that seemed to penetrate the soul, as if no one could hide from them.

She had witnessed firsthand Chen Yu looking at the people in the cave with such eyes.

Master of all he surveyed.

Controlling every subsequent move of those under his gaze.

She had once sighed to Sona that Chen Yu didn't live like a human; in such a short span of time, he seemed weathered and able to see through everything.

It was also Chen Yu's insight that made the little devil and Sona resolutely stay with him.

However, she had never expected.

These eyes would be turned upon her!

"Are you not awake, or has your brain malfunctioned because it's time to sleep, King Skali? Are you talking about me?"

After a brief moment of daze, the little devil chuckled.

"Hee hee hee, still pretending? Chen Yu bumped her shoulder with a sly smile. "Aiya, you can hide it from others, but can you hide it from me? I never imagined, little devil, that you were once so glorious, one of the twelve kings of the Demon Empire. I always thought you were just a demon lord who was doing quite well."

The little devil raised her eyebrows slightly, looking up at the full moon outside the window.

"King Skali was indeed a glorious existence, a monarch admired by countless demons. Under her rule, her kingdom even rivaled that of a Demon Emperor." Murmuring softly, the little devil's eyes were filled with remembrance, then she looked at Chen Yu again and shrugged with a smile, "I appreciate your recognition for suspecting I am her. Unfortunately, King Skali truly has nothing to do with me."

"Pretending?"

Chen Yu squinted and grinned, chuckling slyly.

"If you're not King Skali, am I? It's not something to be ashamed of, or are you afraid that I'll become distant if I know you are King Skali? We haven't known each other for a day, you know what kind of person I am, this won't crush me."

Many things were unspoken.

Although the little devil had never mentioned it, Chen Yu actually knew clearly that he would need to help the little devil fulfill some of her long-cherished wishes in the future.

King Skali, as one of the twelve kings of the Demon Empire.

To make such an existence suffer could be imagined how great the forces behind it were, which for Chen Yu was like an ant trying to shake a tree.

He didn't care!

Why would he care about such a thing? He just needed to develop slowly.

He was definitely not someone who would let such trivial matters affect his mood, nor would he make you feel pressured. Even the worst situations would have a turning point.

He always believed that there was no insurmountable obstacle.

Even in the worst-case scenario, if he really couldn't fulfill the little devil's wish, he would admit defeat, and then they would find someone else capable of shouldering such a heavy burden.

He would use his resources to cultivate that lucky person.

It was also a form of inheritance.

Chen Yu was purely curious now, and it could be considered an honest conversation between friends. Being open and honest would be more beneficial for future cooperation and development.

"Then you really have a lot of courage~"

The little devil responded with a half-smile, tapping her fingers rhythmically on the table.

"If I were Skali, do you know what that would mean? It would mean that in the future you would have to face the most elite old monsters of the demon race, and perhaps even involve the two great empires of the human and orc races. If I were Skali, you think you could be alive now? You would have already died."

"Would those old monsters let King Skali live? Impossible!"

Stretching lazily, the little devil smiled slightly.

"It's getting late, you should get some rest."

"Tomorrow, you and Black Bean have more exciting things to do. As for how the Batu Free Federation and the Tatu Kingdom will choose, it depends on your own thoughts. I don't have any particular preferences for either country, so don't ask for my advice."

"Also..."

"Chen Yu, you've really misjudged this time."

With a gentle wave, the little devil pushed her chair back and left the room.

The soft footsteps entered Chen Yu's ears from outside the window, gradually disappearing into the dark night. At that moment, Chen Yu's room became completely silent.

"Did I really misjudge?"

After a long silence, Chen Yu frowned, propping his chin on his hand.

The little devil is not King Skali?

According to the knowledge he had learned outside, and the little devil's various reactions when Roni mentioned Skali, all proved that she could not be an outsider.

At the very least, she must have known Skali.

Connecting this with what the little devil and Sona occasionally mentioned about their past, many things about King Skali and the little devil could be matched.

Yet, the little devil did not admit it.

Her eyes and demeanor did not seem like she was deliberately hiding it, but rather that Chen Yu had truly misjudged.

"Forget it, it doesn't matter anyway."

After pondering for a while and getting no results, Chen Yu shrugged.

Regardless of the little devil's identity, it would not affect their relationship. He had asked that question just to tease her.

This was Chen Yu's nature.

Once a decision was made, he would not waver.

The little devil and Sona had been accepted by him, or rather, their relationship was a mutual choice. Since they had chosen him, Chen Yu would never let them down.

What price he would have to pay for the little devil in the future was something to consider later.

"Sleep."

The candlelight flickered out.

The black night sky enveloped the entire world. Outside the lush ancient manor, River Town was still lit by firelight, but that orange glow could not penetrate the ancient manor at all.

The dark night, as time flowed, was replaced by a faint light.

The faint light devoured the darkness,

Daylight returned!

The scorching sun was still high in the sky, and the howling sandstorms shrouded River Town in a haze.

"Alas, it's still no good."

The dry sandy soil was lined with rows of withered vegetation. Several farmers stood outside, looking at the withered seedlings, sighing with their foreheads furrowed and their eyes filled with unconcealable desolation.

River Town had never given up on cultivating vegetation.

Unfortunately, all efforts had been in vain.

The seedlings were pulled from the ground. After a brief moment of desolation, the farmers began to try again.

Failure was very frustrating.

But it would never be a reason for hopeful beings to despair.

Similar scenes like this could be seen everywhere in River Town. River Town had never given up on improving the sandy land, but there were no results.

Even so, they persisted.

For River Town, all of this was commonplace. Without natural disasters or man-made calamities, the people were thriving, envisioning a vast future.

Unbeknownst to them, at this very moment, at the end of the sand dunes outside River Town, a group of travelers disguised as a caravan appeared.

This made an ordinary day feel a little out of the ordinary.
