Chapter 23 The Battle for Nuannuan

The three of them were talking when Ye Jinghuai returned.

“Mom, why are you here?”

Ye Jinghuai was a bit surprised to see Liu Ruhua. Nuannuan had just been discharged from the hospital today. He had gone to the company to handle some matters and returned early, also fearing that Nuannuan would cry if she woke up and couldn’t find him.

“What do you mean, why am I here? My granddaughter has been home for two days, and I haven’t even seen hide nor hair of her.

If I hadn't come today, I wouldn't have even known about her hospitalization. I'm telling you, I'm taking Nuannuan back to take care of her today.” Liu Ruhua hugged Nuannuan and gave her son a roll of her eyes, saying crossly.

Hearing his mother wanted to take Nuannuan away, Ye Jinghuai immediately became anxious.

“No, Mom. If you like Nuannuan, you can come visit her more often, or I’ll bring her to see you. She’s my daughter, and I won’t allow you to take her.”

“Can you even take care of a child? She was hospitalized just one day after being brought back. I gave birth to five sons, do you think you know how to care for children better than me?” Liu Ruhua hugged Nuannuan tightly and refused to budge.

Nuannuan blinked her eyes, looking at her grandmother and then her father, feeling a bit confused.

“Grandma~” Nuannuan suddenly spoke, interrupting their argument.

“Yes, my dear? What is it?” Liu Ruhua’s expression changed instantly to one of warmth and affection.

“Nuannuan wants to be with Daddy. I can’t go home with Grandma, but Nuannuan can go to Grandma’s house to play.” Nuannuan said earnestly, word by word.

“Oh, my dear Nuannuan is so thoughtful! Unlike your father, that brat, who only knows how to upset me.” Liu Ruhua said, glancing at Ye Jinghuai, who could only shake his head helplessly.

“Grandma, Daddy isn’t smelly, he smells good~” Nuannuan perked up and tried hard to defend her father.

“Alright, alright, not smelly.” After pacifying the little dumpling in her arms, she looked at her son with a look of disdain.

“I don’t know what good deeds you did in your past life to deserve such a thoughtful daughter who likes you so much.” Liu Ruhua looked at Ye Jinghuai with considerable envy, her tone laced with a touch of bitterness.

“Of course, my daughter likes me.” Ye Jinghuai smiled triumphantly at his mother.

“Alright, since you want to take care of Nuannuan, I won’t forcibly separate you two father and daughter.” Liu Ruhua said, finding their affection a bit too much to bear.

“You never liked children before. I was worried you wouldn’t treat her well. Now that I see you’re so attentive, I’m relieved. So, what happened yesterday with the hospitalization?”

“She had an allergic reaction to mangoes. Nobody knew before, and yesterday she happened to eat one, which is how we found out about the allergy.”

“Hmm, I thought you were abusing the child!” Liu Ruhua rolled her eyes.

“Mom, am I that kind of person?” Ye Jinghuai was speechless.

Liu Ruhua didn’t want to bother with her son and turned her attention back to comforting Nuannuan with renewed concern.

“My dear, are you still feeling unwell? It’s all your father’s fault for not telling me, otherwise Grandma would have definitely come to see you yesterday.”

“Grandma, Nuannuan is okay~”

“How about I have your father take you to Grandma’s house another day, okay?”

“Okay~”

“Then Grandma will prepare a lot of delicious food for you and take you shopping for pretty dresses.”

“Thank you, Grandma~”

The two of them chatted intimately, and during their conversation, Liu Ruhua took out her phone and took a series of photos of Nuannuan, thinking of showing them off to her old friends.

“Mom, I’ll bring Nuannuan to the old house in a couple of days. Also, should we hold a banquet for Nuannuan so everyone can meet her?” Ye Jinghuai, pushed to the side and watching enviously, finally spoke up to make his presence known.

“Oh my, I was so happy to see Nuannuan that I forgot about that. No, I need to go back and discuss it with your father immediately.” With that, she put away her phone, grabbed her bag, and hurried out.

Midway, she seemed to remember something, stopped, and then turned back. She hurried over to Nuannuan.

“My dear, Grandma has an urgent matter to attend to and must go home now. Remember to come see Grandma in a couple of days! Mwah~” After planting a kiss on Nuannuan’s little cheek, she left in a flurry.

Nuannuan watched Liu Ruhua’s somewhat eccentric retreating figure, lost in thought for a moment.

“Did Nuannuan get scared?” Ye Jinghuai, seeing his daughter looking dazed, couldn’t help but ask.

“No, Daddy~ Nuannuan likes Grandma very much, and Grandma is very pretty.” Nuannuan turned her face to look at Ye Jinghuai.

Liu Ruhua’s status as a national goddess back in the day was undeniably due to her beauty, and this beauty had not faded with time. Even though she was almost sixty now, time had only bestowed upon her a charm deepened by years.

Ye Jinghuai blinked when he saw the lipstick mark on Nuannuan’s face. He reached out to wipe it, but it only made the area redder.

“Daddy, my face hurts a little.” Seeing Ye Jinghuai rubbing harder, Nuannuan couldn’t bear it and spoke up.

“Oh, young master, you need a wet wipe for that. A child’s face is delicate, you can’t rub it so hard.”

Wu Ma had seen what was happening. By the time she turned to get a wet wipe, her young master had already caused Nuannuan’s face to become red.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry Nuannuan, Daddy didn’t mean to.” Ye Jinghuai’s eyes filled with concern.

“Daddy blowing on it will make it better.” Nuannuan unconcernedly offered her little cheek.

“Hoo, hoo~ Does it still hurt?”

“It doesn’t hurt anymore~”
